I'm weeping with Joy for this spectacular vlog. The memories you all are making are priceless. I remember Carcassonne castle from my childhood in France. You are truly blessed to have such an exquisite experience for Christmas. ❤ My dad renovated a barn into a small cottage in Provence which brings back memories of the gorgeous countryside and sweet, quaint village stores. Thank you for this, Michel. It's wonderful.

The little sign by the door to the chapel was a sign of the "Saint James Route" (sometimes called Camino). Saint James's Routes are pilgrimage routes by which people go to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, where Saint James is buried. The shell on that sign is of this route and being a Camino's pilgrim. It is actually called Saint James mussels.

Hi Michel Janse, your video is very nice but being French and very attached to Mont Saint Michel I will take the liberty of correcting your small (very small) errors. What you visited is not a "Castle", there is no castle at Mont Saint Michel, it is a fortified town with an imposing abbey at its summit. It is a Christian religious building. In 2023 it was not the millennium of the island or the village. Nor even the first constructions. It was only the millennium of the abbey church. The first constructions date from the 8th century. Comparisons with Harry Potter are a little too recurrent among tourists: it is not Mt St Michel which resembles Hogwarts, it is Hogwarts which is inspired by Mt St Michel. For the skull you translated the beginning but unfortunately you missed the most important: The construction of the first sanctuary on the Mount dates back to the 8th century and was built by Saint-Aubert, bishop of Avranches. Legend has it that the archangel Saint Michael appeared to Saint Aubert to order him to build this sanctuary. He would have placed his thumb on her head to convey to her the plans of the sanctuary. Since the exposed skull has a hole on the left side (but you don't show it to us in your video). To fuel the legend, people often thought that the hole was the one created by the archangel Saint Michael. Then the wheel was not at all for the drawbridge. After the French revolution, the monks were chased out and the abbey became... a prison, one of the most abominable in the world! The wooden wheel dates from this time (19th century): It was for mounting power and equipment. We put 6 prisoners inside, they had to run with all their strength like hamsters to carry the load. The Rosé wine that you show is indeed a medieval wine but it is a little more than that: legend has it that it is... a filter of love. Your “crepes” are very beautiful, very successful, well done cook! Beware of clichés, it's not just in Paris that people speak English. English is learned at school in France from middle school. You're exaggerating a little. But this video was very nice, don't hesitate to come back to France there are thousands of beautiful things to see, less famous than Mt St Michel but just as magnificent.
