Lyrics:
No, don't just walk away
Pretending everything's okay
And you don't care about me
And I know it's just no use
When all your lies become your truths
And I don't care
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now? (Ooh)
Would you tell it to my face?
Or have I been erased?
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
You took all there was to take
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it, yeah
And I am giving up this game
And leaving you with all the blame
'Cause I don't care
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now? (Ooh)
Would you tell it to my face?
Or have I been erased?
Are you happy now? (Ooh)
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Do you really have everything you want?
You can't ever give something you ain't got
You can't run away from yourself
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now? (Yeah, yeah)
C'mon, tell it to my face
Or have I been replaced?
Are you happy now?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Are you happy now?)
Oh, oh
(Are you happy now?) Yeah, yeah, oh, oh
Would you look me in the eye?
Could you look me in the eye?
I've had all that I can take
I'm not about to break
'Cause I'm happy now (Ooh)
Are you happy now?

My parents took my door down because I slammed it. And so I wasn’t aloud to have a door my whole teenage years. They wouldn’t give it back. And one time my dad kicked down my door because I slammed it and another time my mom stabbed a broom through the door. Apparently I was the crazy one. They then took my money my dead great grandma left me and said it was to replace the door. But I never got to have a door. Well at least I had a door when they decided they didn’t want me anymore, at least that’s what my dad told me and put me into a foster home. But I had to live in a creepy addict where the previous girl had gone missing and was murdered. But anyways love this song brings back memories.

I straight-out idolized this chick from age 12-13. I mean idolized. Tried to dress like her, have my hair like hers, etc. This song was on repeat for like a straight year. Michelle played the guitar, accordion, and piano, plus had a sweet soprano voice that could easily develop a grungy quality if she wanted it to (like in this vid)... And this was in an era where young girls were pretty much restricted to the likes of Britney, Hilary, and Christina in terms of the mainstream pop world. Thanks Michelle for actually being something different for me to look up to at that time. Nowadays I'm more into heavy metal, but songs like this, which I'd call a heavy pop song, probably got me into said genre.

I was always more into her than all the others during this time when Avril was everyone else's favorite. This is more of my life than anything anyone else has sang about. Wish we had a lot more of Michelle Branch,

I agree man. I liked Avril, but her music didn't relate to me all that much. But Michelle's music always felt so relevant to me and things I was going through in my own life. Most of it still hits hard today too.

Elin. I cannot say that I fully agree with you. I truly believe that the angst of my generation (1997-1999) we just had more frustration and anger once 2000 rolled around everyone became soft and controlled by the labels. For example there was this underground singer we all listened to back in my parents basement while we smoked cigarettes and gosh we’d get so angry!!

Yeah, Michelle and Avril were in their teens back then. Alanis was 28, I think. She made her debut at 13, I think, in the 80s. But her first big hit in 1995: You Oughta Know, I think she was 21. I think Michelle Branch made her debut at 18. And Avril made HER debut at 17.

Damn I think I've finally found the song I've been looking for for almost 2 decades 😮 all that was left of it were these vague memories of a early 00s song with a clip of a girl dancing in or among some ruins, and the color of it all was sort of yellow/orangey.. that's all I had. I've been looking for YEARS.
