@@woodenbeast9337 President Ford had no idea what she was going through because he was rarely at home when she was raising their kids. She had a pinched nerve in which her doctor first prescribed her pain pills. She never wanted him to be in politics and certainly didn't want him being vp or president. Because of Mrs. Ford, many lives were saved and continue to be saved because she refused to keep her struggles in the shadows. I've read all three of her memoirs, a couple more than once. She continues to be a cultural icon long after her passing and was a woman of real substance and integrity for the simple fact that she never hid her humanity: good, bad or indifferent.

I’m not into political biopics or First Ladies, but this looks good and I can tell by the calibre of actresses in this it no doubt will be amazing. Michelle Pfeiffer’s role stands out. Betty Ford has been synonymous in history for ages from generation to generation with the Betty Ford Clinic. And bringing to light things that no one was talking about like addictions, anxieties, equal rights and on and on. She was doing what you weren’t supposed to do. There was bo social media to support that. The public did not support that but she broke through. That’s pretty major.

How I wish she'd asked more questions from Gillian. I'm sure Gillian had so much to say about the role as Eleanor; how she explored in playing her; how she identified to her as a woman; and the challenges that she took that would separate Eleanor from her award-winning performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. She's such a brilliant & incredible actress but so underrated. Gillian deserves more recognition for all her performances! both in UK & US.

This looks so good! I just hope it’s not a lot of drama queens shouting at people (translation:”dramatic license”), since these are historic and complicated figures. I think the pressure must have been especially intense for Viola, since Michelle is still living and will no doubt react to the accuracy of portrayal. Can’t wait to see it! Is it only on Showtime or is it also on Paramount?

Viola Davis said they took some liberties, meaning they made Michelle seem meaner than she was. I respect Viola Davis, but I didn’t realize she fell for that, because it leads some to say, I told you Michelle was mean. Therefore, it coattails off the angry black woman trope. As she said, she got a chance to direct, but she still could’ve said, I won’t buy into the stereotypes.
@abbylivingston1449

Viola Davis executive produced the series and could have easily rejected attempts to negatively & inaccurately stereotype the historic first Black First Lady, but Viola Davis chose instead to caricature Michelle Obama in the worst way. For “dramatic “ purposes. Disappointing.
@marjorjorietillman856
@marjorjorietillman856 2 жыл бұрын
@@abbylivingston1449 You’re absolutely right! The racists tried to make Michelle loose her cool, by degrading her body worst than any First Lady before or after. Even though they didn’t attack the classless one that did nude photos. But they used photos of apes and other animals to depict Ms. Obama. But Michelle, just like Judge Jackson, rose above the deplorables. That’s why I was so disappointed in an actress of Davis’ stature bending so low. The GOP will never apologize for their racist depictions, but Viola definitely should explain to Ms. Obama, why she embraced the trope?

I think all three will be fantastic in their portrayals, although Davis will get the most scrutiny because of how beloved Michelle Obama is, however Pfeiffer looks to be the standout and will finally get some the of the acclaim she's been deserving.

As excited as I am for this (and I am!), am I wrong to hate the thought of them taking "dramatic liberties" for Michelle Obama? I wanna see how she really handled things, not a dramatic exaggeration. She was tossed to the wolves and came out being a rockstar. She handled things with grace but we don't know how things were behind the scenes. If they're going to lie or fake it, it kind of makes no sense. I want to see her real vulnerability and real power and real conversations because I know she had some hard struggles and I just want to see that reality. It doesn't need to be made up for tv. Her truth is better.

I agree, Angela. So much of what Hollywood puts out is overdone, overdramatic. A great example is Yellowstone. One of the worst shows I've seen. The overdone violence made me cringe, and the totally unnecessary foul language was disgusting. Literally every other word was f*** this and that. I watched four episodes, and got rid of the DVDs. American entertainment has always cheapened itself for sensationalism, money and ratings. I lived in Europe for years, and am so thankful to have experienced the difference between crass and class accordingly. Hopefully this series doesn't compromise itself to the point of being ridiculous. American entertainment far too often dumbs citizens down. One of many reasons I refuse to waste money on cable, for the very few channels worth watching.

My only idea for dramatic liberties was to perhaps theorize what was going on inside Michelle Obama's head while on the outside she was staying in her lane, as Viola said, like we're seeing the interna monologues played out

Out of Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michele Obama.. Michelle Obama has the least of the accomplishments . Before becoming First Lady Michelle Obama had accomplished a lot more professionally, She did not seek out extensive media coverage and her work in The White House is confined to nutrition and veteran affairs. Eleanor Roosevelt is the pinnacle of First Ladies and no one can ever touch her.. She was and still remains an inspiration to so many people. Betty Ford led her life with truth, honesty and transparency. Compared to today's cabal of Trump posterior fellating Republican Party Betty Ford would never ever associate with today's GOP. If all those three women would be alive today they would be firm supporters of Democratic Party.
