Perfect Timing!! I'm just having a very late lunch here and your post popped up! Another super excellent video Michelle! I LOVED how balanced you are with your routine and expectations for yourself and your numbers. Honestly you just have such a soothing and understanding outlook, watching your videos brings me a lot of comfort, as I'm more of an extremest when it comes to exercise and often push it way too hard! I thank you so much for making this, and personally reminding me to reach for balance and kindness towards myself (especially after a poor night's sleep!!) Big love from London and Happy Fall!! xoxo

Thank you Andrea!! I am so happy I could have lunch with you! I have to admit, creating balance for myself isn't something I've always been good at. It is something that I learned the hard way during my 20's haha. Thank you again for your kind words. Sending love back to you, and have a wonderful day 🤗❤️

Go Michelle! I swear by morning workouts, if I’m doing HIIT training or a hard run I tend to need a little bit of insulin on board but I still think it’s the time of day with the least other factors for us to consider, I think important to note too that once your body is used to something it reacts differently (someone who jogs often might not need to adjust but if you are just starting out you may). Do love the message here to be kind and gentle to our bodies - workout culture these days is a bit intense!! ❤️💗❤️💗

Haha oh hey there💓🤗! I have to say, part of the inspiration for me trying this is from you! You've always talked about how great morning workouts are for you, so I figured it was time for me to try :D . Also, great point about how your body will react differently when it starts getting used to something!

I am 33 and have had T1D since I was 18. I have never had a regular exercise routine in my life, but beginning in August, I made a commitment to myself to begin a morning exercise routine before getting my kids up. I now wake up at 5, workout, then start my day. The effects on my BG levels have been amazing, and I have been able to cut my insulin daily dose down a ton because I feel like my body is utilizing the insulin much better!
@MichelleLord

Well done, morning exercise is the best! I prefer to run first thing, I find my levels a lot more stable when there's little insulin on board and also an empty stomach is better for running. I've also been doing a pilates class for about an hour each week, it doesn't have a massive impact on levels, just a slow drop. Keep up the morning exercise, it really helps improve your daytime levels and mantra

Another good video Michelle. If a correction is indicated by my CGM, I do what you did: I make about half the calculated correction, and less if my exercise is more intense. Anything involving a period of brisk walking / aerobic exercise, I eat an appropriate amount of carbs. Thanks for sharing.

A lot of type 1’s (like myself) have severe dawn phenomenon (wake up hormones and glucose dumping from liver which raises blood sugar in the morning) and so morning workouts help prevent getting high from that. Personally, If I don’t workout in the morning my sugars get really high just from waking up. I have such bad dawn phenomenon and have to correct it every morning - unless I workout. Also, So many experts say not to exercise with any insulin on board because exercise increases insulin sensitivity. If you workout with pump on you’re still getting small basal doses so high corrections aren’t as needed since you’ll be more sensitive to those small basal’s. I’m glad you’ve tried morning workouts!! Less variables yay go you! I’m working out again after a long time off and ran across your video. Thanks for sharing - T1D tribe strong!

Great video. I can't beleive how stable your blood sugers are . As someone else commented, mine also look like the alps. I usually excersice about three times per week. Biking is my excersice and now that it is starting to get colder have moved to indoor biking using the zwift app. I have to do a temporary bolus of 0% or take off my pump and I will still go low. As you mentioned, everyone is different. I always have a full water bottle of orange juice with me and several granola bars as well. Even doing a morning workout, I will have something sweet to eat before starting the workout, just to get my BS trending up before starting. I am planning on switching to the tslim pump as my ADP warranty is finishing next week so will be ordering after I have my appointment with my endo next week.

I’m normally go for walks in the evening before dinner. I’ve made some big life changes this fall and have gone back to school so I like to go out and move after I’ve been sitting in class all afternoon. Like you I’m insulin sensitive when exercising so that’s why I like going before dinner when I have no insulin on board. Thanks for sharing as always Michelle ❤️

You have such a lovely and balanced approach to experimenting like this! I loooooove exercising in the morning, it's the best time imo. Whenever I have dance class in the evenings I am always struggling with preventing lows, but in the morning I hardly ever get lows after exercise. Depending on the intensity I do sometimes give a tiny bolus (usually the more intense the exercise, the more I need), but that's all really. At this point I'm so used to exercising first thing in the morning that I feel weird when I don't have the time for a quick yoga flow or some pilates, haha.
@MichelleLord

That's awesome that you have found a routine exercising in the morning too :D. I agree, it is a lot easier to deal with blood sugars in the morning vs. the evening. Thanks for sharing your experience 💓

So happy you made this video!! I've been thinking about a morning exercise routine for a while in order to combat that morning rise and eliminate the issue of lows due to insulin on board. But on some days I leave for work at 7:15 in the morning... so I would have to exercise at like 6 am. And I'm not an early bird!! Lol.

I get up at 4:30 most mornings of the week to workout and I usually do a HIIT type of workout for ~30 mins. I always, always have to give some amount of insulin before my workouts bc they spike quite a bit from the adrenaline! Even when I wake up in the 70's I sometimes will have to have a glucose tab just so I can give some insulin before my workout. I also notice my insulin sensitivity is better throughout the day on the mornings I exercise! Definitely something I've been loving for a long time and the affect it has on my sugars is motivation enough! So glad you enjoyed it too!

Man! Your blood sugar levels are so stable, I'm envious. I'm normally within range but still, my line looks more like the Alps, I can hardly ever get a flat line. The main reason for this I think it's because I've taken a break from my pump and have returned to manual injections. I was having problems with my underlying tissue and was having more problems with my pump sites than with pen injections. That being said it's harder to achieve a stable flat line, which looks SOOOO nice to me. I always prefer to work out earlier rather than later because if I have a low during a workout, I can pause it and return to it later in the afternoon or evening, but if I leave my workout for nighttime, and go low, then I have no backup time to pick the workout back up later.
@MichelleLord
@MichelleLord 4 жыл бұрын
The levels in this video are quite nice, but I definitely have those days that look like the Alps as well 😂. I'm sorry to hear you had problems with your tissue! Hopefully after switching back to pens for awhile it will get better! It may be nice to have a tech break as well :) ! Take care!

Great experiment! I enjoyed seeing how it worked out for you! I‘ve always been a morning exerciser. But after breakfast my pump would automatically correct my high instead of letting my exercise bring it down then I went too low! Recently I started fasting (eating between 10 & 6 only) so I started exercising without breakfast in the morning and it has worked out perfectly.
@MichelleLord
@MichelleLord 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh that is one downside to automatic pumps - they don't know when you are exercising. I'm guessing you must have the 670g or Control IQ! That is awesome that you also found exercise to work for you without breakfast :)
@pamspicer97
@pamspicer97 4 жыл бұрын
Michelle Lord Yes, Control IQ. I can set it to exercise but the auto bolus happened before I did that. So I tried to set it to exercise after I ate but I don’t remember if that worked or not. Sometimes I would just take the pump off but then the On Board feature was off if it auto bolused. I was going to call Tandem but never did. Maybe one of your viewers might have some advice on this. 🤷‍♀️

I ussualy do yoga 🧘‍♀️ late afternoon, sometimes morning, 30-40 minutes, five days a week, moderate intensity. But it always makes my numbers go little bit high. Today I did 35 minutes (IOB when I started was 1.17) and BS went from 7 to 7.6 🤷‍♀️

I prefer morning workouts as well. I do about an hour (usually weight training/hiit) and it's taken me SO LONG to get my routine figured out 😂😂 I have control IQ on my pump which has an excercise feature that changes the range to allow you to go a bit higher. A game changer. I usually allow myself to go up to about 9-10 bec I know the workout will bring it back down. All I have before is a coffee and I turn the excercise feature on about 15 mins before I start.

I love your channel so very informative. When people are first diagnosed with diabetes can they get started on a glucose meter they put into their body and an insulin pump? Or typically do doctors don't advise people to do that?
@MichelleLord

Thank you!! I think it really depends on the patient & doctor. I know a lot of people who go on a pump and CGM right after being diagnosed. I personally was on syringes for 5 years before switching to an insulin pump, and I went 13 years before starting a CGM.
