Michigan's Adventure is widely considered the worst Cedar Fair park. But is that really the case? The park has one of the best roller coasters in the world in Shivering Timbers and a beautiful setting around a pond. Find out if this park is worth visiting in this review!

Thank you for this very fair review of michigan's adventure. It's a much needed counterpoint too many outright mean reviews , but even many of them are very obvious attempt to shame cedar fair into investing into the park. Nope it's pretty obvious in most reviews that people genuinely wanna love this park but are often disappointed because it's not as big of a deal as shivering Timbers would imply that it is. One of the most interesting points that isn't mentioned in this video is that michigan's adventure is one of cedar fair's most profitable parks.. This is often cited as a reason why cedar fair doesn't often invest much in the park because they don't need to. I think that we will see that change as the years pass as its other parks are so crowded all the time that it's a miserable visit. I would expect it's a first major investment Cedar Point does next will be finishing the loop around the lake with another ride. Perhaps wicked twister, though I would prefer something more interesting and less like something they already have IE Thunderhawk. My family is poor and can't do the Cedar Point trip very often, but we always go to michigan's adventure once a year at least if not two or three times. Between the pretty decent water park this price is included in admission and the larger rides we find it just good enough satisfied our rollercoaster cravings with shivering Timbers being everybody's favorite. I agree it's one of the best wooden coasters in the world and I don't ever recall seeing one anywhere that even remotely approaches the number of camelbacks it has and it's a quite intimidating sight from the parking lot. I'd really love to see Wolverine Wildcat get the RMC treatment. There's been several smaller projects that they've done that have been fantastic and I think this could be one of those for a relatively small price tag. Unlike the majority of my family I have had the privilege of riding such things as the beast and the son of the beast with the loop in it as well as travel to other parks east of the Mississippi and even worked at Disney World on space mountain.... Which of course came with it multiple visits to Busch Gardens Tampa universal and islands of adventure and Sea World so I know my coasters yet still enjoy Michigan summer days at michigan's adventure. You can't call it the worst or bad but it does well at what it is with plenty of business to support regular investment in the park if cedar fair will rip off the band aid finally and and do something significant that' the park deserves. That's not to belittle what it's done but it's broad public support that is consistent often with people that can't afford to go to the larger Cedar fair parks certainly deserve to be thrown a bone bigger than camp snoopy. Shivering Timbers already brings people internationally to the park so why not support that with something a little tastier than what's already there? I see it as inevitable.

It probably is the worst Cedar Fair Park but it's still not as bad as many call it to be. It doesn't have the best lineup but it has 2 solid woodies and 1 amazing one. Shivering Timbers is the reason you go out to this park but they need to improve and add other stuff to help support it and make an overall better lineup.

I actually had a great time here during my first visit 3 weeks ago. Shivering Timbers is a top 15 and there is a massive amount of things to do for families here. Pretty much everything is a 48inch height requirement or below except Thunderhawk. I also though food was good, employees were fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. Now I will say maintenance and coaster ops did leave a bit to be desired but I think it is actually a great park. I'd take it over most of the six flags parks out there that's for sure.

@jandrew1994

KI has a fantastic operations (Except for their Halloweekend haunt season with their stupid no-bag policy), best food in the CF chain (maybe tied with KD) ... KI's attractive Euro-themed front midway, elite water park (much better than CP), the rides are down a lot less than CP, and the park is cleaner than CP. But KI is all in all overrated because the coaster lineup really isn't much to write home about. Is the Beast really better than Shivering Timbers? It's really long but has unnecessary slow parts in the middle and tends to be quite rough. The rest of KI's coaster lineup isn't particularly good... Invertigo is fun and the best of its kind, but gets old after about the second or third time. I would consider KI to be a "B" tier park. The food makes it close to "A", but as a RCE I can't give a park dominated by B&Ms and Premier Rides better than a "B". CP is the only "S" tier park in the continent even though it has its shortcomings like lack of healthy food choices unlike KI (no chicken wings to be found at CP), can be dirty and the rides can and do go down fairly frequently. MA's location is the reason it isn't more cared for (and more expensive). CF should have taken the opportunity to relocate MA from Whitehall (yes it's got a Muskegon address but it's much closer to Whitehall and Montague than Muskegon)... 30 minutes north of Muskegon, to somewhere on I-96 between Grand Rapids and Lansing. Because then you'd get a ton of traffic from Ann Arbor and West Metro Detroit instead of having to make the arduous trip southeast through Toledo and some ugly back roads with the nuclear power plant to ride actual coasters.

You present a very profound observation. Families with children age-up through the park's rides so a visit each year opens up "new" rides for the kids. As the kids get big enough to ride the good stuff at Cedar Point, the family can easily travel to Cedar Point. So, no vital reason to constantly add new cutting edge attractions.

I went to Michigans Adventure for the first time in July 2022 and I had a wonderful time. I had never been to one of these smaller Cedar Fair parks, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Its a beautiful park on the lake with some decent attractions. The only Wild Mouse I genuinely enjoy is there. Shivering Timbers is amazing and out of the woodies I have ridden, I prefer only El Toro and Phoenix. I really wish the park would stop being the butt of jokes and get something new. A thrill coaster that is on the cheaper side would do, like a Gerstlauer Eurofighter or a Chance GTX.

I like how they added Camp Snoopy to the park because I think this park still needs to put more attention into this place. Obviously I can't say whether it's better than my home park Valleyfair but I think this one has a better looking waterpark and I like how they still have their golf course (I wish Cedar Point and Valleyfair hadn't gotten rid of their's). I'll definietly be coming here with my friends one year but I don't think it will be for at least 3 or 4 years as there are closer places we want to experience first and I'll have to find an easy way to drive there from Minnesota.

@@CanobieCoaster I can't say I agree with the GM. This park as you said is about 4 hours from Cedar Point and that's about the same distance from Cedar Point to Kings Island but they are treating Kings Island as if it were also Cedar Point which means they should have no reason not to do that with Michigan's Adventure to. Sure Kings Island may be in a populated area and Michigan's Adventure is in the middle of nowhere but if you can give people new and different reasons to visit than they will make the drive for it (at least I probably will).

While the lake in the center of the park is very nice, I found the rest of the park to be a rather ugly sea of concrete. That lack of shade can definitely be dangerous. Spent a day at Kentucky Kingdom 20+ years ago. My girlfriend wore a spaghetti-strap top and got absolutely ROASTED. Not exaggerating when I say the birn lines were still there on her shoulders for at least the next 2 years. I literally had to help her get dressed for several days cuz just moving her arms brought her to tears. We also spent minimum $100 on drinks alone. Doubt the shade there has improved much, but I've heart that drinks are cheap now at least.

It looks like a fun enough family park in the vein of Funspot and the like but i do think it could use some improvements and upgrades. Few new rides. Maybe a new family coaster. Improved food options. I think people expect a little too much from this park because it's a "Cedar Fair Park". They expect it to have 10 200 foot tall BnM's and whatever, not realizing that a company can have different versions of a product. Also, you don't HAVE to go there which will also limit your "disappointment".

It'd take at least 5-6 hours to drive from North Western Michigan to Cedar Point; it already takes at least almost two hours to drive from from Ann Arbor (which is about 40 minutes NW of the Detroit airport) where my aunt; (the widow of my dad's late brother) lives on Arlington Drive in Ann Arbor, which is exactly 75 miles as the crow flies to Steel Vengeance @ Cedar Point, but would take 4.5 hours to get to from An Arbor if accomplished by bus. I did that in May of 2018 when visiting my aunt for the 1st time in 18 years (since my uncle's funeral in '99) while also experiencing my 1st and so far only visit to Cedar Point. You're incorrect: Shivering Timbers does NOT have nearly one mile of track: it actually as has OVER one mile of track, by 103'! That's one (yes, only one) foot less than T-Express in South Korea. Shivering Timbers also has a prime ride time of about 92 seconds, whereas T-Express has about 90. Diamondback at King's Island is the coaster with the closest length to one mile at 5282'; merely 2' longer than one mile. In fact, Diamondback is considered to have the biggest duration of airtime of any non hybrid steel coaster, with only The Voyage and Steel Vengeance beating it for the most airtime on any coaster, or so I am told. That'd mean that Shivering Timbers has 1: the 4th most airtime of any coaster overall, 2: the 2nd amount of airtime for any wooden coaster and 3: has the most airtime of any non hybrid wooden coaster. Speaking of which: Behemoth probably has the 5th most duration of airtime on any coaster after SteVe, The Voyage, Diamondback and Shivering Timbers. Lastly: If anyone lives in Michigan: It'd depend on where in Michigan anyone lives before it could be determined that they live closer to Michigan's Adventure than Cedar Point, because for at least 1/3 of Michigan: Cedar Point in Ohio is closer than Michigan's Adventure. But I am curious: How long do you think it'd take to drive from Michigan's Adventure to Cedar Point Ohio? Please put your answer in the comment section. Also: Thanks for posting this awesome video, I enjoyed it!

Michigan's Adventure looks better than Great Escape, which most consider to be the weakest Six Flags park. I live 25 minutes from it, but I usually drive the 2 hours to Six Flags New England because the coaster lineup is worlds better.

I think I prefer Great Escape overall, but this park has the better overall ride.

Admittedly, coming a distance for this park and finding Shivering Timbers closed would be a major buzzkill.

It does seem like a lot of coaster enthusiasts have been making videos about Michigan's Adventure just lately.

Most of the population of Michigan lives about halfway between Cedar Point and Michigan's Adventure. Where Kings Island has a large metro area right next to it.
