We commonly use the words "purpose" and "meaning" all of the time but you've changed the definition when it comes to the meaning and purpose of our lives. The purpose of our life should be the reason we exist. Why are we here? Purpose assumes something was created for a reason, therefore there must be an intelligent creator. Meaning is a message that is being transmitted within a creation. Purpose is not goals nor is meaning have to do with values.

Beatiful talk. Logotherapy is one of my favorite types of psychological treatment. Meaning and purpose are always confused as synonyms, yet they are very different. You don't need to have a goal to feel that you're life it's meaningful. And viceversa, you don't need meaning to have a purpose, yet when combined, it's a powerful healing tool.

Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful reply. Meaning and purpose are indeed different but related. I think of meaning as basically significance. "I want to make a difference" is often what people say. I think Albert Camus was right in his focus on worth; e.g. "what will make my life worth living?" Some part of our human nature interrogates us as to whether our life is worth living and suicide stands at the door listening to the answer. I think the problem with a psychological approach is that it answers a different question. Instead of "what will give my life meaning and purpose", the psychological answer is to "what will give me a feeling of having meaning and purpose?" A life spent chasing feelings doesn't seem to me to be a life worth living.

@@matthewtenney2898 Thanks for this conversation! I never realize the subtle difference of "making your life meaningful" with "having the feeling that your life is meaningful." Ever since I was introduced to Logotherapy, the realization of what meaning in life is, change my whole life perspective. Specially, the part that you said of what makes life worth living and having death close to hear it. I'm very glad there are more people interested in this topic. Once again, thanks for sharing your ideas with me. (And sorry for any grammatical mistakes).

@@MadnessRulesYeah Thank you for the very nice conversation. This past January, I had a close relative pass away from covid. I just wanted to somehow express my feelings at the loss so I made a video but I kept it private. Perhaps you might be interested. It is at kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLVkKKFrtpkpNE
