Charlie was subtle but very versatile. Stones music went in all directions over the years and he always kept it in groove.

All these guys are in their mid to late 70’s. Some on borrowed time. I have loved this band as far as I can remember and they were the soundtrack of my youth and my retirement years. I miss Charlie terribly, and so do they, but I will relish their decision to continue the tour and entertain their legions of fans around the world.

Charlie Watts was the reason I decided to pick up the drums. Tumbling Dice is my go-to song to practice on. I thankfully saw the stones at the Philadelphia show before he passed away. It was one of the greatest concerts ever!

I hope Mr Stern was paying attention while Mick carefully corrected the notion that Charlie was simply a steady timekeeper. Charlie added the swing that's essential to the Stones, along with his very idiosyncratic "swerve". I wonder why they chose that monotonous beat instead of something that danced. What footage I have seen left me with the sense that there was something missing, and I realized it when Mick said Charlie was the heartbeat of the band.
