Absolutely fascinating. So does this mean you've been fictionalised in the recent Steve Jobs film? Or was your main involvement inbetween the three acts? (I don't know if you mentioned anything like that in the review; I try and avoid reviews so I can keep my mind clear of other opinions until I've seen/read/etc. the thing in question, sorry)

Your apple stories are always amazing. I have been in iJail for 2.5 years now, out with all the windoze PC's and in with Apple stuff. It was a great start but Apple seems to be lost in past greatness. The iWatch when no one needs a watch, bloated iPads chasing the Microsoft failed Surface that no one uses. I once had a boss who made binary decisions. I think that's a sign of greatness. Apple is still caught up in it's own hype, but it's past hype now. Where are the stunning new products? Sadly here in Oz apple's use for education has lost. Apple has still not penetrated the business market even though they throw away business products. This still surprises me. Maybe it's time Apple had you back onboard considering how you have helped them in the past. Just look at Apple Inc share price..OUCH. Between 2009 to 2015 Apple ruled, today it's again an open market.
@mickeleh9 жыл бұрын
+leokimvideo Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't think I'm in a position to help them now. As for the stunning new products, Apple plays if very close to the vest with a lot of secrecy. So there's no way to know if they are in the pipeline or not. Two of the more interesting rumors concern an Apple automobile (slated, maybe, for the end of the decade), and a virtual reality or augmented reality headset. VR and AR is just coming to the market now, but at prices that make it very exotic. But prices will be driven down and I expect we'll see something in three or four years. (uninformed guess).

Really interesting story. At the time I was building and selling PCs and the only people that wouldn't touch them were creatives, and to be honest, the creative software available on the Apple at the time was far and away better than the PC. I remember trying to add memory to an old Mac all in one and hearing a hiss as the seal around the monitor tube broke - haven't tried to fix anything Apple since! Had forgotten how bad things truly were for apple - amazing how one man's insight, focus and determination turned things around so completely.

The more I hear about Steve Jobs, the harsher he seems. Is that really what's needed to be successful?
@mickeleh9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Tannock That is, of course, the ultimate question about Steve.
@northwindkey7 ай бұрын
Tbf, during this era, the harshness was warranted by the company's complete lack of direction. I mean, Apple had a fairly decent Unix system called A/UX just lying around for years collecting dust that they could've used to save the Mac in the early 90s and never even had to get NeXT to get a good Unix system. They just let it wither away and die. I mean, wouldn't you be ridiculously pissed off if you saw a company you helped build lose itself in decisions like that, especially if you had been forced out specifically because the company said they wanted more focus? That's the great irony of this. Jobs was the one starting a million different projects against Apple's wishes in 1985, causing him to get kicked out. But in 1997, Apple were the ones losing focus and Jobs was the one who needed to, essentially, give them the same lesson they gave him. You could argue that firing Jobs and bringing him back were both the two best decisions Apple ever made.

+mickeleh Thank you for sharing your insight into the dire situation at Apple back in 1997 and Steve's vision and determination. I recently found these old Apple gems on the Internet Archive, I was wondering if you involved with the production of Sculley's presentations in 1990/1991? This was one of the last largely successful product launches pre-Steve (The LC line in particular). I thought the production was quite humorous - the news room to cross between demos and of course the stuffy power-suits of the early 90's! archive.org/details/AppleUserGroupConnectionForNovember1990_659

Very interesting how Pirates of Silicon Valley casts the Bill Gates appearance at the 1997 keynote as Steve accepting the dominance of Microsoft over Apple, with Gates taking the place of Big Brother from the 1984 ad, with Steve saying he regrets how large Bill Gates was in comparison to him. It ignores all the context you give it of all the benefits that came with the negotiation, which were ultimately crucial in Apple's return to the business.
@mickeleh9 жыл бұрын
+Yaseen Kader Big business meetings, like rock concerts, all use big screens to magnify the image of the speaker. Nobody ever notices or complains. Except when it's an Apple event, where everyone likes to bring up the 1984 commercial. The price of creating an iconic ad, I guess.
