Wow... Now that's what I call a practical project. Very nice. I have some ES32s and Lora modules on the way and was going to do a similar project to talk to my controller in the cottage. Now I can send text commands and receive text replies containing the info I want. Your code would be a great start. ty Mick

Great video! Is 433Mhz band legal to use in Australia for LoRa? I'm finding it hard to find modules that are AU915 compliant (most seem to be US915 compliant). I'm thinking of building a soil moisture sensor from my garden to my house. Any advice on which modules to use that are legal here in Australia?

does the law in australia mention anything about power output? Like if you can't get an AU915 compliant module, can you get away with 433Mhz with lower output (< 100miliwatt or something)?

I have a question about external antennas. What are the things I need to pay attention to while buying antenna ? These modules communicate each other over 433 mhz band and, that means I need 433 mhz antenna ? is that all ? is there another parameter aside from frequency ? And another parameter is gain. More gain more distance as far as I know.

i was wondering how feasible would it be to implement the XMPP protocol into this device so it could easily merge into XMPP services on the internet as well as use the server to server aspects of the XMPP protocol to connect/mesh multiple devices together. Is XMPP to much data to pass over LoRa? Basically make this device an XMPP server that could even share its connection over wifi with more than one device and link to other devices over the LoRa connection. Love these gadgets and the possibilities of them. NICE work MickMake :-)

can this be used as a wifi repeater?

Not really. It doesn’t have enough bandwidth and it’s not designed for it really.

Amazing project, can you tell me the really distance to send ?
@MickMake
@MickMake 6 жыл бұрын
You should be able to get to 20km with decent antennas. Although some people have been getting to 200kms!

With only a PCB antenna - around 1km. With a decent antenna - around 15km. If you boost the signal - around 50km.

@@MickMake Have you done a video on this yet and if so is this possible? I'm trying to create a communcations device using LoRa (like what you did in this video) for a university project. I think TTN have limits on how much data you can send to a node a day.

I can't get more than 400m with some lora modules (using SF12@500khz and SF11@250khz)
@MickMake

You'll need to make sure you have the correct antenna. This is the usual issue with LoRa range problems.
@totoxahc

@@MickMake I'm pretty sure the modules and antennas are the correct frequency, modules and antennas are marked as 915 MHz, the receptor is using a rubber duck antenna and is programmed using arduino libraries (the LoRa module is in a custom PCB with an SMA connector, the RF trace was calculated to 50 Ohm@915Mhz but not verified), the transmitters are using helical antennas directly soldered to the module and are programmed using custom libraries without arduino, so at least I know that configuration is correct. Unfortunately I don't have equipment to test RF circuits. I'll have to contact the module manufacturer (nicerf).

@MickMake

Hmmmm. I don’t see why not. It’s plain old LoRa Comms. So I don’t think there’s any issue.
@opless
@opless 7 жыл бұрын
You'd need to choose the right frequency etc. (which wikipedia says 915ish, as the US is in Region 2) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISM_band ) You'd have to read up on the FCC docs for using that band though. Just to be on the safe side!

The LoRa frequencies are licensed for devices with sporadic air-time. So as long as you’re not pushing out something like video, there won’t be any issues.
