I'm an Aussie and my partner is from Yorkshire. Apparently everything is better in that sacred land, even fish and chips. Even if we're sitting on the beach eating that days fish caught fresh off the Great Barrier Reef. "Good but nothing on Whitby". I combat that when we visited her parents in the UK with comparing any wildlife to Queensland. "Teh, call that a bloody Labrador?"

That was hysterical. It brought back so many memories of my upbringing. Add on Friday nights pocket money night and sitting around the table so dad could win his money back playing mandatory 3 card brag. 😂😂😂 it’s true. Dads money was always safe.

I remember getting my pocket money from my Dad in the 50's. It was called the 'Saturday Shilling' (worth 5p these days) but it was enough for a half-pound of boiled sweets, pineapple chunks, pear drops or American hard gums. Or maybe 4 sticks of barley sugar. Or maybe browsing in Woolworths for cheap toys.

When Mickey refeences the "Out out" bit he's talking about the sketch he did (as well as the tour) where in England there's a culture of being "out" or drinking hard, hanging one on, etc. So sometimes you're just "out" (quiet night a few pints) or "out out" where you go for it!

I'm middle class, I live in rural Oxfordshire and love boxing however there's zero boxing around here. So several evenings a year I go to London's East End to watch a boxing card in Bethnal Green, at the famous York Hall. I have to admit walking around that Borough (Micky's Flat is still there) makes me nervous, it's the kind of area that's been ignored by Government, a large migrant population, residents from every Country around the Globe, very little employment, run down with a lot of social housing but I've only ever bumped into pleasant people. Yes like any inner city I'd guess there's drugs, prostitution on the streets at night and crime but we should never write off people just because they have very little I'm not being patronising btw), BUT I wouldn't walk around there in the dark!...........😂you just have be aware and keep in mind 'I stand out like a middle class sore thumb!' It's quite an experience, the Streets, a different world than I'm used to.

Making a pram in the 4th year - that's Year 8 in today's numbering. It used to go 4 years of primary/junior school, then starting again as a 1st year at secondary/high school (11-12 yrs old). For an example of life for working class boys at a British state school in the 1970s, you should watch the movie "Neds." The school scenes are very authentic (nostalgic for me), the gang stuff only applies to Glasgow which has a notorious gang culture going back to the 19th century. People's school experience had a lot to do with class background, and a generation of conservative teachers who wished there was still class segregation into different schools - Grammar and Secondary Modern - and taught the working class kids with an attitude of low expectations and harsh discipline. In my schools, they duplicated class segregation within the school, dividing pupils up into different "Sets" by alleged "ability." If they were good at sports, they could be very well treated by headmasters, PE teachers and such, who might make them prefects and groom them to join the army or the police, but otherwise working class kids did tend to leave school as early as possible, at 16, with few if any qualifications. The Comprehensive school idea was noble in principle and I still believe in it - everyone attends the same kind of school and should get the same standard of education. But it was sabotaged from the start by middle class parents and Conservative party-run school districts, skewing the allocation of resources. Over the course of the 1990s the state sector became increasingly fragmented and ruined by the New Labour government of Tony Blair, creating new layers of privileged schools within the state sector for middle class parents to obtain educational advantages for their kids, like Academy Schools, which were originally supposed to provide extra facilities for special fields like science schools, sports academies and performing arts schools, but since they got about 30% extra funding each out of the total available in a given Local Education Authority (LEA), they soon became just Grammar schools by another name and another way to carve out privilege besides private schools.

The saying out out was a London saying. It sprung up in the pubs with people replying to someone saying they went out and then it was were you out, not dressed up or out out, dressed up for a night out. Word gets about of out out as a reply to being dressed up nice for a night out. There was a London craze of repeating words as well, like say yes yes, no no, please please, yeah yeah, all back in the early 2000's.

At my previous job we would take on a work experience kid usually aged between 15-17 (intern) every 3 months. Usually they were really nice, but every so often we’d get one that would blow our minds. Literally constantly on their phones despite being asked not to, would refuse to do some of the tasks they were given (literally the most easy to things) and give the most insane reasons for not doing them, one literally said she can’t answer the phone as she has a phobia about it - which is fair enough except we were a telecoms company and it was a marketing job where 90% of the role was taking calls and she had chosen to come to us and when our manager contacted her school to ask about this they said that it was complete rubbish and had no such thing. One lad kept putting his feet on the desk! And no joke, one kids parents phoned our CEO to say their kid should be given easier work to do, which would basically have meant doing nothing as they did the easiest stuff anyway. It’s the parents that have brought them up to expect everything to be handed to them. At the same time though we did have many who were great it was by no means all of them.

Council Estates are socialised housing not unlike the projects in the USA. I grew up on a council estate at a time when it was pretty much the norm (1960s). That changed during the Thatcher administration (1980s) which sold off most of the council housing and encouraged people to want to own their own homes - then punished them with crippling interest rates when they tried to do so (leading to a huge number of foreclosures). Now there is a certain amount of stigma about living on a council estate which didn't exist when it applied to most people. A 'Provident Cheque' is a loan from a company called Provident who were at one time notorious for giving out high interest loans indiscriminately (ie. regardless of the difficulties it might impose upon the loanee to pay it back).

@@Dave-jm3zf Absolutely true. Thatcher's political support for his takeover bids were fundamental in allowing him to gain control of 40% of the British press in the early 80s. You don't get that kind of backing without some form of quid pro quo. He continued that support when the grey man took over.

I see Micky Flanagan at the 02 in London on the 26/5 this year and he was absolutely brilliant. He’s so relatable as I was born in 1970 but in Bristol but all what he says is so true about back then I personally think it was a better time than now. So glad you enjoy his videos. Another comedian is Kevin Bridges who is from Glasgow he’s hilarious but a younger comedian, there is a certain clip which is if Facebook was a pub and it’s really funny you could try looking at that one. Also I noticed you said that when you come to the UK your not staying in London I totally agree with you as it’s not a safe place and so expensive, also driving is a nightmare you hardly move it takes forever to get anywhere, most Londoners are moving out of London. My partner is from London and would never live there again. The Uk has so much more to offer which is more beautiful and safer with just as much history as London. Also if you are driving in the UK be careful there are speed cameras everywhere and even on traffic lights.

One thing this generation we see now have, no lead in petrol, no blue shit in the food, loads of things in food are banned because we now know they are bad for you, and make you more aggressive. Morn’n guys ! Another good review. Where the UK comedy skits are concerned, it would be an idea to watch them play out with the bad words in, as this adds to the clip, but more importantly, as the performers, the guys (& girls) have wrote this into the skit for the comedic effect of the word, & not for the offence. By omitting the words, you’re losing a certain ‘something’ from the skit. As teachers, you should understand that these are just ‘words’ & one should not be offended … ‘sticks & stones’ & all that .

Appreciate the comment. You are reading too much into the editing. It is just our choice to do so. We are not the first to edit out F bombs. When we react, we do so unedited of course. So, we hear it the way it was intended. For us, it doesn't add or take away from, the joke. I try to do it where only that word is missed. But, you are not the first to make this comment. I also think editing helps with the algorithm as well.

The "out out" thing comes from his show where he talks about you can go out, or you go can OUT out. Going out, you was actually going to the shops to get some bread, bump into a mate and end up in the pub (in your slippers and bread in hand) or you can go OUT out, which is when you actually meant to go out to the pub, rather than just being there "accidentaly"

Why do you cut out all the swear words?

Don't see the point of cutting the swearing out,it's like watching Norman Collier. He's depicting how it used to be and i don't think it's changed much at all in some places so why change it.

Teenage boys have their own unique 'colour-experience', that occurs when they're asleep, but it ain't 'brown' or 'red', is it?!?! 🤣 I'm not sure whether they talk about it though, I only know that I didn't, waaaay back, when I was a teen!! 😮

Bored of watching Americans swooning over us Brits.. I watched an episode of the US version of the Antiques roadshow.. Why can they not make their own content? Come on, do something original!
