Completely agree with your assessment of the quality of this turntable. As I understand it was Micro's most popular design. The bearing is one of the best ever made, and it is the same model that you can find on the RX-3000 and RX-5000. Mine is all original and keeps incredibly precise consistent speed. The only weakness of these was isolation, Micro generally preferred mass loaded designs and their isolation skills were not as strong. Pair these with a decent isolation platform and you have a world class investment. It's like a fine luxury watch or something. No one makes them like Micro Seiki did. Pretty much all of the high end manufacturers are still copying micro seiki's innovations to these days.

I also restored a BL-91. Absolutely magnificent table. Motor: you should not need any "push" to get the platter going, even if you run the optional "gunmetal" platter. Cleaning and lubricating the motor does help, when the control board is restored. Oil: the original oil was a leaded oil. I went to great pain to find a suitable replacement. The synthetic oil I specify for Rega rebuilds was not suitable- there was bearing rumble with that, so I had to up the ante. I also replaced the thrust ball with a polymer replacement and lapped the thrust plate and housing base that supports the plate- this is critical as the original oil didn't do much here (I offer spindle restoration on eBay). Level: a properly set-up MA-505 arm will be immune to minor out-of-level condition. Otherwise, business cards make great shims!
