Your video saved my life and my hair! When you said 500 something microlocs and how often one MUST RETIGHTEN them, REALITY kicked in real quick. Between having a busy schedule, kids and their extracurricular activities, that's a HUGE SACRIFICE. I just ended up getting traditional locs with a little over 170 locs, and I must say that the retwisting every 8 months to a year is HEAVEN & takes me no more than 45 min to an hour to do when it is time to retwist/ or retighten. I was told that it isn't wise to go that long without retightening micro locs & sisterlocks. I wanted locs that I felt I wasn't FORCED to maintain at a specific time, but locs that I can temporarily keep tidy between retwists without ruining them on my own terms due to neglecting a "time table" of WHEN to retighten them. Thank you for this video. While micro or sisterlocks may be fine for others, this video confirmed that it wasn't for me. I believe I would've been in a world of trouble and thousands of dollars down the drain had I chosen this path. I don't ever want to feel "confined" to a hairstyle that for me is ALSO supposed to serve as a way of life. Again, THANK YOU.

After a while you will not need to get them loc'd as often. I started my own braid locks and have kept them up myself for 2.5 years. I retie my 352 locks now about every 8-10 weeks, which means about 6 or 7 times a year. The more mature they are the less you'll have to get them done.

Girl you can do all the research in the world and still over look something. I have fine low density hair too. After researching I decided against Microlocs and sister locs because I didn’t have patience for the retightenings and I didn’t want my hair to look too scalpy in the beginning. I decided to go with traditional small locs and I love them!! I have 81 locs and they are getting thick. I’m three months loc’d. Because my hair is fine my hair does get frizzy hella fast after each retwist but I still have baby locs and I was told that my hair once it’s matured the frizz won’t be as outta control so I’m trusting the process. Your hair looks really pretty. I wish I had known that reties would cost so much and take as long as they do. It's been 6 months since I installed my microlocs. The loctician did the install in one day and it took about 14 hours. My reties have taken 5-7 hours. My hair has broken off quite a bit and I've had a lot of bunching. The locticians in my area are charging ridiculous prices for reties and their appointments are booked so far out. Recently, I went for a consultation with a different loctician and she said she charges $190 for reties. No thank you! Over the course of 6 months, I've invested $1100 for the install, and 2 reties. At this point, because of the condition of my hair and the cost to maintain it, I've decided to either comb these things out or cut them out.

That’s the reason I took down my SL -twice! They we’re charging by the hour and it was taking them HOURS to complete a reti thus I was paying a lot of 💰!!!! One loctician was making it a point to put a hella lot of locs on ALL of her clients heads regardless of the grid and size of their heads so that she could make bank on her ALLDAY reti appointments!

@deegeorge5711
@deegeorge5711 2 жыл бұрын
@@LocsSoFine Yes I did. I took the reti lesson that you are supposed to have when you get SL about 3 to 6 months after I had had them but I still didn't really understand the process and I was afraid I would mess my hair up after spending so much money to get them. Yes! I watched that loctician have a client in her chair for HOURS doing a retie on her head! That lady had so many locs you could not see her scalp even as she was having her locs tightened! I was watching because I had gone to her for a consult after my second set of SL were put in incorrectly. The back was not as it should be. She told me that she could take down that set and reinstall some new and better locs. She was lying and she was money-grubbing me. I had at least a week in one of her chairs while her TEENAGE daughter and a friend were trying to take down my hair! I was under the impresson that the loctician would be doing the work! I watched her clients wait for her in front of her shop (along with me) as she didn't bother to show up on time for scheduled appointments and when she did she did not apologize. I watched her retigtening a lady who was in her chair from the morning to the afternoon and probably beyond . I left and finished the takedown on my own. I haven't had locs since then. I don't EVER want to be dependent on ANY loctician for my hair EVER again. I have had too many bad interactions in that SL community.

@@deegeorge5711 how did you take your SL down? I didn’t think you could take them down
@deegeorge5711
@deegeorge5711 2 жыл бұрын
@@fromChristalXO you know that little metal tip at the end of a rat tail comb that you use for parting your hair? I took that off of my rat tail comb and used it because the point is rounded rather than sharp and therefore would not damage my locs as I took them down. I washed my hair and soaked it in conditioner and one by one proceeded to take each loc down by picking it out from the bottom up. As the day progress I used a spray bottle to continuously dampen the loc. it was tedious as hell but I took my time. Mind you my locs were at least 6 months (or more) old and very, very small because I have fine hair. I was able to do it-twice but after doing it I would not do it again. I would simply grow my hair out and cut it off and work a TWA. There is a YT video out where another SL wearer with very long locs took hers down too.

Over the years they ve become 40+ because I ve joined a few. Semi free formed. Now I thinking of having them thicker- joining them and going free form. I really only used to retwist 2 or max 3 times a year. My down fall was colouring super frequently- changing the colour at will- so dry locs which some are breaking at the ends. Good Day, thank you so much for this video 😃 because EVERYWORD you spoken of procrastinating to get your mirco locks it’s just what I have been doing. After all of my research just like the research you did same thing here I wasn’t correctly researching but I did find a shop to Dreadlocs and mirco locks and all these things right and I did go to the shop. 5/8/2022 I paid the fee for mirco locks and the lock technician did palm twist in my hair. My appointment was 8 am I didn’t leave until 5 pm. And I found out twist only taken 2 hours.. So I was telling my daughter about my hair and how ugly it was and I can do nothing with it and that I was making a wig to wear over my hair; she’s was like why mom you doing that? I said because my hair is so ugly I go to church and I go to outings and swimming and I can’t do anything with it because I have to wait for my hair to bud.. She said mom you have mirco locks thats the beauty of them they are all ready locked! She said mom they gave you the wrong hair service. Of course I called the shop and explained the problem I was asked to send video. Which I did, the owner looked up my appointment and what service I where to get and seen I did request “mirco locks” AND PAID THE FEE FOR THEM AS WELL… So she made me a appointment to come back in so she could do my hair in the mirco locks.. because she is the ONLY one in her shop that does the mirco locks. I went back to the shop for my appointment the OWNER gave me…and I leave far from the shop…… The owner cancel my appointment NO ONE sent me a message my appointment had been canceled.. So now the shop have made me another appointment for 5/3/2022…. You looks great your hair is Absolutely Gorgeous 😍

Honestly when it comes to reties i feel like its not that deep when it comes to appointments and time since most ppl get their hair done every month or 2 like braids and stuff so its essentially the same commitments

Your hair look fine through. But yes I didn't choose microlocs for financial reasons .and I did well cause for 5 years now I moved from London UK in a country ( Poland )with no black loctitian at all .so good job I have traditional locs cause I would have to simply cut !! 😅

Thanks for your honesty! ❤. I’ve been thinking of starting the micro like journey for years and keep changing my mind. After listening to your video, I think I am definitely going to do it now. Also, have you had your thyroid levels checked? I’m a busy mom, too and would’ve never had it checked except someone suggested I talk to my doc. It was impacting my weight, energy levels, etc.

Thank you for this video. I have low density hair as well. My problem is I was told to twist it every night. I plait it and then when I take it out I must do it too much because I comb it with my fingers to get the dents out and my fingers have gone thru several twists and reopened them. Now when I try to twist them back they don’t stay. My hair is 4b/c and loves water but will not grab each other like it did when I was natural
@LocsSoFine

I’ve never heard that advice but mine were started with interlocking. Maybe you can try braiding at night instead. I don’t like braiding or twisting my hair because it makes it flatter.
@pattycaswell9139
@pattycaswell9139 2 жыл бұрын
@@LocsSoFine I use my fingers like a comb to comb out the braid I put in at night. Leaving it alone has it too flat for me. I wish it would go ahead and stay twisted. It was twisted and interlocked when installed. The top is interlocked but the bottom she left open. I may just start using curlers and work on being more careful with separation.

I'm 6 weeks into my sisterlock journey and my only regret is not trimming my ends. I didn't realize I had split ends until after my install. Other than that I'm going with the flow. This is my 2nd set of interlocks, so I knew what to expect with everything else. I self maintained my first set of locks and reties took about 2 hours (I didn't have microlocs). I wonder how long it will take to self maintain these sisterlocks. That is my goal eventually, but probably not any time soon lol
