I bought Tattler lids this year and love them. One caveat on the process with using those is to be sure to follow manufacturers instructions on how tight to tighten down the lids “before” the canning process. Finger tight is subjective but they explain how to do it. If that part is done correctly there should be no problems. I haven’t had one failure. Personally, I would much prefer to have paid the .76¢ each I paid for the Tattlers that are indefinitely reusable than .50¢ each for the heavy duty metal ones. It’s nice to have options however you look at it.

Very helpful. I wondered about the other lids "available," and have been waiting for someone trustworthy to do a review. Thank you so much Dr. Pam and husband. I so appreciate the effort you are putting into keeping us informed.

I have used Tatler for 10 years, they last that long, harder to use and the I had a learning curve on how tight to go when processing, and also when doing the final ring tighten after processing, that seemed to be where I had failures but when they work they seal for year and don't rust. If I had a good supply of metal lids I prefer them as they are easier but I have used my emergency stock of Tatler this year.

You are so right about the quality of the Ball lids. I had two failures in one canning session. As I took the lids off I noticed a slight dent in each lid. Since I had opened a new box, I checked the lids that were left in the box and each had a slight dent. So very disappointing. Let"s hope the up their quality control next year.

Thank you for highlighting the problems with the lids. I have not heard of the Denali lids but will be looking into those.

Like most home canners last year it was very difficult to find good lids. I got so lucky when my local farmers marked cashed their retirement and bought a semi trailer load of USA made Kerr lids and jars. I bought half a case of regular and large rings and lids. I still have enough for a few more years. I keep them in sealed bags for good measure. Good luck to all and check with any local Amish stores as a resource too.

I am VERY happy with my Denali lids! They are made in foreign countries right now, but they are building a facility in the US, according to their website.

I want to add to my previous comment, and I just noticed someone else mentioned this, that another plus with the Tattlers is not having to worry about lids rusting. I live in the southeast. It is a subtropical rain forest. The humidity here is unreal. I have to run a dehumidifier continually where my canned goods are stored. I will have to anyway because of store bought cans but they will still develop rust over time. I am very pleased with Tattler lids that this not a concern when considering the hard work I have put into my home canning.

I love Weck jars and Tattler lids. One has to follow the directions when using Tattler lids, which is why I always suggest people pressure can some water to see how they work. Just ordered some of the Denali lids from Amazon. Thank you.

I use one piece, two piece, and three piece lids. I use the one piece and three piece the same way. I use the two piece as you say, I don't tighten them down when I get them out of the canner. I get my one piece lids with button tops, I find them online. The one piece lids are made only for water bath canning. The plastisol sealing compound is not meant to handle temps that are in pressure canning. They are called High Heat, but that just means they can be boiled, the non high heat ones are for manufacturing processes that use Hot Fill, something I won't do at home. They have worked great for me for a couple of years now. I have never heard of Denali canning products, I need to check them out! Thank you for such wonderful and helpful information!! ☺👍

I’m using both Ball metal lids and Tattler lids this year. I have 12 Weck jars, but haven’t used them yet. I plan to use them for water bath canning of apple slices.

I too can’t find canning lids, Ball or Kerr. Maybe on a few boxes since last year. Like many I hesitated to order online not knowing for sure who manufactured them or the quality. I came across the PUR canning lids. I’ve now used them water bath canning & pressure canning (All American Canner) & I have had No failures, no dents or buckling. I am very satisfied with the PUR canning lids. I guess time will tell on how they keep their seal.

thanks for the review....in 2013 I decided to buy a LOT of regular mouth and large mouth lids.(Ball)...i'm still going thru that box. I have several hundred left and so happy I did it back then. Interestingly enough they are all still working well these lots of years later. I put up a couple hundred jars each year ....glad to know about Denali, I just couldn't buy them at that price but they may be our only option for a while.

Timely and exact. Another excellent video. Thank you for all you and your husband are doing. The more people who are secure in their food supplies, the less fear people will feel when things do go wrong. And the more they can help others around them. Thus, less civil unrest in difficult times. So try to put away some extra if you are able.

Just ordered Denali lids. Worked out to just under 42 cents a lid. If the quart of food isn’t worth at least 50 cents to me, I am not canning it. I ordered 2, 60 packs, regular mouth lids, and was free shipping! Thanks for the quality tip! Website was easy to use.

Lehman’s in Missouri just announced that they have a new supplier of canning jar lids that is local to them. They said they’re good quality, too. I’m waiting on a back order of Harvest Guard lids, myself. I’m hopeful that they will be a decent replacement for the metal lids. Thanks so much for the information on lids, especially on the Weck jars. They are beautiful. Have a wonderful day!
