Thank you both so much. I knew about the family dispute and the non compete clause which is why harvest guard seem to pop up out of nowhere. I bought original tattler from a farm and ranch store about a year ago. I contacted both companies to learn what you just showed. Tattler company is the only one to respond but did not know the difference in the lids because of what I said earlier. I just ordered 500 more wide mouth tattler and 100 regular. This order will be the ez seal so a new learn for me. Harvest guard still 4 months later has never responded to my inquiry on the difference. P.s. Heather and Paul you can soak lids in effevecent tablet to remove stains works really well. Happy canning love you both.

I only have ever had Harvest Guard lids but as Paul said the customer service is amazing. They are so very kind to you. I spoke with the owner when I ordered my lids and he was amazing. He told me the story about how these lids came about. How it had been his dad's dream, he gave his dad all the credit. Anyway I just wanted to share about the company's customer service, it truly was a very plesent phone call. Of course it was early last summer and before all this other. I would also like to have the red lids. God bless.

I contacted both Tatler and Harvest Guard today. Harvest Guard said that their gaskets are only good for 6 to 8 uses tops, while Tatler said that their gaskets last from 12 to 15 years. And remember, the owner of Harvest guard is the son of the owner/originator of Tatler, so they clearly have an understanding that there is a difference in the teo, even though the customer can barely tell with our eye test.

I have both. I have not had a problem with interchanging gaskets. The Tat's do fine with HG gaskets and the HG do fine with Tat gaskets. I haven't noticed a difference in function between the 2 brands either. I'm also a fan of the info card from HG vs the page from Tattler. The info card is more for sure more professional.

@@TheKneadyHomesteader I have the ez seal Tat's. I don't see a difference in color on my seals. I'm thinking if that could be just a difference in suppliers or age? Were they both used in PC or WB? Do you know if the seals you compared had been used the same amount of times? Both companies say the seals will loose shape over time as they wear. Could the differences you saw be due to age and usage?

Great video. Thank you. The difference between the format of the instructions may be because the son is more savvy about presentation and more comfortable with technology. The father is more old school. This may not reflect the quality of the products or of the companies, just that the owners are of different generations.

Firstly, Thank you so much for a great comparison/explanation of both companies' lids. Secondly, I finally got Tattler wide mouths, because the current situation left me without metal lids (dang I should have realized when seed companies went to sold-out mode) and we have a small farm here to can everything edenic heirloom (plus hunted meats) for 10 months of good eating in the larder. Thirdly, I found that I could buy direct from Tattle-ordered large quantities. Oh! more research- I ordered large from Harvest Guard too. Backwards researching here {{frown}}. But lastly, and I do NOT want this to come across as criticism, but just a helpful hint--for filming, the counter has a bad glare. I have found using a black felt sheet or dark material is a god-send to place everything on as it absorbs light and you can see what you are filming more clearly. Keep up the great helps you share! God Bless, Lucia :)

Great video! The difference in the ring/gasket color may be because the Tattler may be natural rubber latex. They look very similar to the Weck rings. I just contacted Weck yesterday to inquire and was informed that their rings are natural rubber latex and they do not consider any other ring to be safely interchangeable. The Harvest Guard rings are definitely Nitrile as listed on their website. This is very important if you or anyone you can for is latex allergic like me.

I just got my order of Harvest Guard last night ( Sept 16) Not impressed - they come in a zip lock bag, the finish of the lids is poor, there are little chips on the outer portion, little chips the gasket appear to cover the whole thing, so I don't believe it should be an issue. Its like they are manufactured like a model car or airplane, all the parts are on a grid and you need to snap or cut them off, in this case as I said already it left chips and nicks. So disappointed, and because Im in Canada they cost a fair bit, but my thinking at the time, they would pay for themselves over time. And there was no instruction card in the box, just a couple of ziplock style bags filled with lids and gaskets.

So cool seeing you both together. Super exciting. Thanks for showing us the difference. My question is... can you write on the tatters and harvest guard? I know you said you wanted the red ones because of stains on the tattlers, do they come in more colors?

The Harvest guard lids are little more cost effective. I have a couple dozen of the Tattler lids so not too much of an investment yet, I might order the Harvest Guard instead. Thank you for this video it was very informative. I am still nervous about using these lids but I need to try it.

@@TheKneadyHomesteader Yes! then go to HG. I saw Tattler is having 25% off if you spend over $100, until the end of August, then went to compare HG prices, and they're on sale also, no minimum purchase. No I just can't decide which to buy! Maybe both...

Thanks for all the info! Im working on ordering some.. But do you know what the basis of my preference is.. The design on the top is the harvest gaurd lids is prettier LOL! How crazy is that 🤣. I don't know I may go with tattler because the lids themselves are thicker but gosh the design on the lid 🤣

Great comparison! Enjoyed that. I would like to see the HG compared to the org Tattlers since you said that the HG was more like the org. other then that, Thanks. Do agree with the red. I was thinking along the way of the Red, for the same reasons, but honestly don't care about stains. My family... yeah.. but they never "see" it anyways. LOL I am more invested in the Tattlers, and will probably stick with Tattlers, esp since they moved back to MI and I am a Mich/Ohio girl. :) Thanks again.

Just recently got my order of Tattler lids after waiting for 2 months. It’s only when I asked for refund that they communicated with me. Then I heard about the Harvest Guard. I was expecting your video to show the difference in the canning process and results of the two brands, so I was disappointed. I didn’t care about the cosmetic side of the comparison, just the sealing comparison.

we couldnt do that in this video. we had just received our lids. something like that takes a lot of time. many canning sessions and many months of having both lids in your pantry, on jars, to see how they hold up. we are all in the same boat here. i will say my tattlers are sealing well and holding up beautifully! Paul is also experiencing great results with harvest guards. i don't think you can go wrong with either.

I have harvest guard ordered, but they are on backorder. My thoughts on harvest guard being thinner, that may be better. I know I occasionally have a hard time getting the rings on my tattlers because they are so thick. I can't get them looser without the risk of them coming off. Perhaps the thinness was intentional.

We have a bunch of e-z seal Tattlers . I tighten till jar spins on the counter , put in caner , when they come out of caner i tighten like i would a regular lid that was going in the caner . All have sealed for us so far . They seem to work but after years of caning it is a bit different not hearing them pop . also when i go to check them a month or so later i like just pushing on lid to see if i hear the tin flex and pop . the tattlers i need to pick up by the lid to check . We like the tattlers but gets in the way of my old school thinking .

I just got the Harvest Guard lids. I'm a new canner, and was using regular lids at first because I only bought the wide-mouthed HG lids & my first projects were regular-mouthed jars. No problems with either system. I've been super careful at following instructions though, like head space and clean unblemished jar rims. I did notice with the HG gasket rings, that they left a tiny gap just like the one you showed when you mixed the two brands together. This worried me a bit, but I've been checking every couple days and so far the seals are holding like the first day. I wonder whether the slight size difference is not just a matter of the natural expansion/contraction of the rubber at different room temps? The HG lids were brought in from outside-maybe warmer; maybe cooler? At any rate, my experience thus far is that the gap wasn't a problem. I'll bet the two systems interchange just fine.

Thank you for showing this comparison back in November I can two jars of meat with Tattler and so far they have stayed sealed last week I started canning with my Harvest guard they sealed great but after about four to five days one by one they're losing their seal not all of them. Each day I seem to be losing one jar and the day before it was sealed has anyone else had this problem

Do not buy Harvest Guard lids in bulk without trying them first. After following all their instructions I got about 60% failure rate and emailed the company. With every emailed suggestion, I followed the directions very carefully and could not get better than 50%, which I only got once. Unfortunately I had ordered in bulk after watching all the wonderful KZbin videos raving about the reusable lids. By the time my canning season came around I had passed their return/refund deadline. Buyer Beware!

I ordered 3 dozen regular and wide mouth tattlers. They haven't shipped yet. I looked at the harvest guard site when I was deciding what to buy I couldn't find a price difference so I went with tattler because I know the name and I've watched so many people can with them.

Don't forget extra gaskets if you are planning for long term use without more supplies! My mother reminded me today so I had to make another order from the Tattler site. 69.00 for 100 gaskets of each size, total.

both companies have lids designed by the Stieg family. Something happened a few years ago where Tattler moved. Then moved back and there seemed to be a split. So they are both really the same products.

I have glass tatter lids. The rubber gasket is a little loose on the lid. They work great. You questioned if you could trust the rubber gaskets not exact on the lid. You said you weren't confident interchanging. I also have the zinc lids and rubber gaskets. I think the new gaskets that is sold today aren't the same as the original made. But I canned beans this year & they worked fine. When I couldn't find lids I got out my old canning stuff.

I notice the mark on the gasket, which I assume indicates it has been used one time. To be honest mine are harvest guard lids and gaskets and I noticed right away that my second use gaskets are a little bigger than originally sized. I feel they stretch as a rubber band would since it has been heated and boiled and compressed.

I wanted to know if I ever would have to order gaskets again ? I know tattler says you don’t have to and harvest guard says after 8 years and just wondering if they are the same enough to truly both be long lasting or if I will need to get more gaskets eventually?
