MICROPHONE JACKS AND SIMPLE ADAPTERS OR CONNECTORS, TS, TRS to TRRS FOR SMARTPHONES OR CAMERAS REVIEW.
These 3.5 mm microphone jacks look the same, and when you are starting out with video and audio, they can be confusing, because there are three different jacks, the TS, TRS and TRRS, with now a 4th - you can guess the TRRRS!
In this video, I show you the differences between the TS, TRS and TRRS jacks.
The TRRS is the one you will likely use most often in your smartphone or in many cameras.
All those Ts, Rs and Ss make them sound scientific and complicated but "T 'stands for tip, "R" stands for ring and "S' stands for sleeve.
This video shows you how to distinguish between these different microphone jacks and what adapter you will need to allow a TS or TSR microphone jack to work in your TRRS slot on your smartphone.
For a more detailed explanation of other microphone jacks and adapters and you would like more technical detail of voltages etc , Curtis Judd has a great review - • Will That Microphone W...

I am so glad that you took on microphones! They are so important and there are so many specifications to manage. Focusing on adapters and connectors was especially key. Thank you!! I would love to see you address the basic video lighting issues in your videos and then document this for your channel subscribers.

And yes, there is a TRRRS adapter too, but it is not popular at the moment and only used on some Sony products. The message of this video is count the rings and make sure you have the correct adapter for your device!

Wow awesome video! PACKED with truly valuable info, exactly what I was looking for with all these mics I’ve ordered on Amazon, ZZOUNDS, AMS & Wish ($2 ones on Wish that produce same sound as $99 ones btw but had to order several to get the few that were equal to brand... again from Wish or Geek) I truly appreciate how thorough, simple and quickly you explain things in a logical manner. Made learning a breeze accordingly! Subscribed and hope you gain countless more. You definitely should for sure, We need more like you on KZbin! Thank You & Cheers from Madison, WI USA!

Sue, hi Hope all ok. Just found your wonderfully helpful videos, so thanks very much. I just purchased a Boya M1DM and am having difficulty working out how to get it to work in my iPhone 6. Can you advise please? The Boya already has a TRRS plug I believe, but when I plug this directly into my phone it shuts off the audio from the person I am calling. Do I have to have the earphones plugged in to hear them then? In which case, I will need another way of plugging the headphones in, as the mic is using that port. Is it possible to use an adaptor that will allow me to hear them without headphones? And how can I tell the mic is connected to my phone? Thanks so much. Sorry for all the questions, but all of this is very new to me. All best Tim
