Hey Nick, the wife and I always flatten our barbs. The best way to take little kids fishing. They don't pay attention and frequently gut hook fish. With long nose plyers it's easy to reach deep and get a good release. We fish for smallies, we land more than we loose. Great video.

Nice video Nick. Keep up the great work. My favorite microscopic bait is a silver rooster tail with a white feather tail. Its works great in fresh and surprisingly well saltwater.

I always remove the bars from my hooks, safe for the fish and safe for you too. Once I got a barbed hook stuck at my arm, I had to remove by myself, It was a very scare thing to do, I force the Hook to break skin, I cut the hook underneath the barb so I was able to remove It.

I usually smash down the barb on my hooks and fish bite them just fine. In fact it's even healthier for the fish. Another thing about barbless hooks, you can't play round too much with the fish. Tighten the drag a little and reel in faster. If you play around too much the fish will come off.

Hey Nick~! Awesome video. You are the person to have got me started on ultralight fishing and i am totally hooked on it. It makes fighting the fish so much more fun. I personally like barbless hooks because of how easy it is to remove and i feel it causes less harm to the fish. Only thing I feel is that a slightly higher drag setting helps. And with that, also means slightly heavier line. I prefer using 4lbs for that reason. Maybe that'll help you lose less fish. :)

Those rebel micro lures and really all their lures have caught me tons of fish. I prefer the crickhoppers and craws, been fishing with them since I was a young lad.

Great video and we use barbless hooks alot here in Ireland for small fish like that and for pike depending what method we are using and you rarely lose fish :) just matter off keeping tension which is easy and there simple to unhook then !

I was surf fishing and hooked into a big bluefish the hook fell out and slipped through his Gill plate. I didn’t realize this and I grabbed it. The hook pierced right between my thumb and forefinger and went all the way through my finger. Hurt like a bitch. Needless to say the adrenaline kicked in and I ran to the water and jumped on the back of a 3-4 foot bonnethead shark. Tight lines. Don’t get hooked again!

Don't be afraid of the barbless. Since you're doing more fly fishing, you'll learn that's one of the secrets for small lures for easier removal.

hey man , try keeping even tension on the fish , after hook set ,just keep constant tension without pulling too much on the rod ,let him play out a little ,i fish almost exclusively barbless. After you get the hang of it they wont drop off that easily . TIght lines !

I started to use barbless hooks for tiny fishing. Easier to unhook them and less chances of creating a bigger hole for them to heal on their mouths. Constant pressure and keeping them coming towards you is key.

I have been catching nice walleye and smallies on the Rebel micro craw. The largest walleye so far was 32 inches and 10+pounds. The work real well behind a bottom bouncer in the rocks. Small lures when the water is hottest seem to produce better fish!
