Microsoft just announced a tool that will create huge trouble for Google. With Microsoft Copilot users will be able to use artificial intelligence inside all their Microsoft software such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook and others. But the most impressive feature is that this AI will be able to use all your existing documents and data to answer your prompts, and the results are crazy impressive! As they say, Microsoft is "Reinventing Productivity". In the meantime, Google is stunned and left behind.
It's also a preview of what kind of User Interfaces we will soon have everywhere based on AI conversations.

You guys realize the AI is not running locally on your PC but is sending all the data from your documents to microsoft to be AI analyzed there ? ... I am very much sure many companies will consider this a privacy problem on their corporate data.

Most of the companies this applies to, including ours, keeps the data in Sharepoint and Azure. The AI would be siloed, just like the data based on the customer tenants.

The company I work for as well, and many other small/medium size businesses are today simply on office365/sharepoint are also publicly traded, I just wonder. That is such a low hanging fruit that if I am some admin at microsoft controlling the AI can bypass access restrictions, that is potential "insider trading" on stereoids. Imagine just someone at microsoft asking the AI, "hey, which one of these companies is over/undervalued based on the records you can see".

I'd suspect that there was some "safety" involved, just it's their double speak. Most likely AI was generating some outcomes violating taboos of their far left echo chamber, thus it was deemed as unsafe. They clearly were willing to sacrifice high quality content on yt and instead give people some unwanted msm trash.

In a world where AI is fully integrated into our productivity tools, who really needs detailed spreadsheets, perfectly written report documents, or glittery PowerPoint presentations anyhow/anymore? Who can process the collated information better than AI itself. It'll be AIs, making all decisions and runnng everything. Life as we know it will cease to exist. Copilot will become Pilot very soon.

AI already tells us what we want to spend our money on, all over the internet. So AI is basically the consumer. Now AI will take over on the producer side as well. And we will have AI deciding what products to make, based on the market trends decided by AI. Humans are getting cut out of capitalism altogether.

It's very likely that VERY soon, almost every type of job that a person can have, whether it's a hands-on job like plumbing, or especially any kind of office job, there will be an AI supervisor looking over your shoulder all day, deeply analyzing everything you do, and telling you what to do literally every few seconds. This is because the person that agrees to that will be so much higher of a performer than anyone not doing it. Corporations' only responsibility is to make as much money as possible year after year. Corporations have never cared about your sanity or stress level.

It will improve productivity, but if you think most jobs will end you clearly don't have much experience working in one. Decisions are not made on just number crunching, understanding the business and industry are not easiley replaced . How will the AI speak to suppilers to make sure they can provide what you want from them? How will AI speak to clients to negotiate deals and contracts? How will the AI know what to use for input of any of the tasks you feed it, if you are not there? Garbage in garbage out.

There are literally millions of people who run their businesses on Google products, and/or who use Libre Office to save money. I started out with DOS 1.1 in 1982. I was a software developer and I was all-in on Microsoft products until I retired in 2015. But running a small business from home is different. I started with Microsoft but it just got too expensive and complicated for a one-man business. Google products were free and less complicated to use. Sure, this AI stuff is a game changer and Microsoft is out in front of it, but I’m not going to switch back to MS just for that when I know the same technology will be available on all platforms shortly, and probably cheaper.

Google was simply too conservative and they let the far more aggressive competitor (Microsoft) get WAY out in front of them. Microsoft has missed the boat on many things in the past (like the Internet in general) and they have clearly learned from their mistake and won't be repeating them going forward. Google also has an interface design problem with their tools. They just aren't as visually appealing as the interface found on Microsoft's apps. That's something they are going to need to address and resolve going forward.

Som much of what we do is repetitive and I want an AI to pick it all up - I could save probably 20% or more of my work hours per month with this kind of ability - every process I have should be a macro I can command to be performed. I hate using PowerPoint. It is so difficult to format. If MS/AI could make that part better, it will be great. So, people can just focus on the analytical/material part, not wasting time on formatting. Also, MS wants people to use its office products, while trying to get rid of “most” office jobs? LOL Maybe we don’t need to hire that many low level staff who only have high school degrees and couldn’t write complete sentences.
@pizzaiq

I never hired a person for their presentation making skills. I have for their specific expertise. Does anyone actually have a job that can get erased by this? I can only see ways in which the work will actually get done better and faster. If there are no more office jobs then there's no need for PowerPoints as there won't be anyone there to need to see them... I have never in my life had to create a PowerPoint with anything in it that is not a knowledge set and or idea set specific to me, and neither has any of my colleagues. So since the bot can't actually do anything without you telling it to do, it doesn't replace anyone. It simply makes the process of doing what you're doing easier and faster. If your job is something that an AI can replace from the perspective of using your brain to do something, you need to evaluate your life and your choices as it is. I'm not going to fire a person on staff because they have AI to help them develop a presentation faster. I hired them for their expertise, not for their presentation making skills.

A huge issue for me is privacy. I write long letters to friends, my daughter etc with Word. I DO NOT want Clippyborg reading, analysing, sharing, spewing, and otherwise tossing itself off over my musings, and then perhaps spraying my boss with them. To me this is not progress, this is a nightmare. At the very least it means I will be buying another PC for work and work only, which will never, ever, get anything personal from me on it. My current machine will be cut from the net entirely or failing that, Office will be removed and I'll go back to open source replacements
