Always look forward to your videos. Can't wait for your graphic setting optimization video! As a VR VFR and Vatsim pilot with almost 2000 hours on the G1000, I run TAA and override the resolution in OpenXR to make all my buttons legible. I do this at the expense of narrowing my FOV and some strategic foveated rendering. After two days of tweaking settings and trying to squeeze the most out of my hardware, I'm barely getting half of the FPS I was getting in 2020 and I'm not able to hit that magic number of half o my headset's refresh rate. Part of me hopes this is just an optimization issue but it's probably just my hardware... I tried Virtual Desktop and Link Cable....The VR performance is just not good. On the positive side, the knobs seem to be easier to twist using oculus touch controller and it might be viable to use instead of Knobster and KnobFS which is my preferred method currently.

Running on a mixture of high and medium settings FPS starts at around 36 fps but over time reduces to the low to mid 20s. Changing to high and Ultra makes no real difference (TAA mode with LOD & TLD left at 100 for both) and at times the terrain, particularly roads are very soft. Interestingly my GPU utilisation is all over the place from 70% to 100%. I have a150mps internet connection and I am also surprised at how little data is being used. This is consistent with my observation that I've lost ~10 FPS overall moving from 2020's DX11 to 2024's DX12. HOWEVER, so far I'm not missing anything because in my (purely subjective) view, I'm getting the same SMOOTHNESS (or even more, because less stutters) at ~30 FPS in 2024 that required at least 40 FPS in 2020 to achieve. So I'm quite happy with 2024 as long as I don't get too obsessed with the numbers Lol ETA: Not sure how much of this is due to the sim itself, or the latest DLSS DLL update.

However, for me, the problem is everything becomes a bit blurry. It didn't bother me until I compared it with TAA. Wow, the difference is huge. If all I can look forward to is 20-25 FPS in 2024 then it’s a no from me, unless there is a massive improvement over the coming months. Photogrammetry for buildings was and remains a post apocalyptic meltdown in the cities I fly over, even with 400mbps (the best I can get on my wifi) loading everything via wifi would be asking for even more trouble. I can see I’d probably need to hardwire my PC to my router and even then that’s only going to solve things at my end, there’s the other end to consider and Ive no control over that. Main thread limit is still an issue in MSFS2024. Its such a shame. Prevents higher end GPUs from running at their full potential (100%+) because the CPU bottleneck is essentially throttling the capability of the GPU. Their multithread optimization is not great. MSFS 2024, despite all its upgrades, should be running far better than MSFS2020 in DX11. I'm hoping they will improve optimization over time, the servers will get better, and they will iron out the countless bugs that I've seen already. However, based on how long it took them to implement improvements for MSFS2020, I imagine this will take a while. It may also be helpful to include your PC specs in a pinned comment, so people have a reference. I didn't see if you mentioned it in the video, and I think there is a link in the description, but having it readily visible would be nice. Thanks for the comparison! Look forward to the settings guide!

Would really like to see some test on a mid range PC. I'm currently playing the gamepass version but have a psvr2 and adapter so if i want to run VR I will need to buy the steam version. I have a 4070 and a i514400f 32g6000mhz ram. Is it worth upgrading yet or should I just wait till VR is more stable.

The Game Pass version works with PSVR2 and SteamVR! I’m running that. Just switch to VR mode in FS2024 while SteamVR is running.

What do you have your render setting for VR on within the options? 0-200? Seems with a 4070 super and a quest 3, I can only get the render scaling up to 130 to get decent frames. I’m also trying to find the setting you go back to DX11 😢

Your comparison videos are great. The MSFS 2024 is a waste of money in my opinion. Dropped $129 on it and find it to be a lower quality experience by a long shot compared to MSFS 2020.

Why can't I get VR mode to work? Whenever I toggle VR, my headset just freezes with a black screen. I'm using a pico 4 with a link cable on pico connect. I also tried wireless with virtual desktop but it still won't work. I also dialed down the default VR graphics settings. I also tried streaming the headset on 50mbs and 100mbps. Msfs2020 and all my other VR games have no problem. 😟

While I'm sure they can continue to optimize, and the DX issue is intriguing, I don't know why our GPU's wouldn't struggle more with a sim that has higher graphical fidelity. I'm no expert, but isn't the quality higher so the gpu will just struggle more?

Have tried all the fixes. Photogrammetry doesn't work at all for me in 2020 unless I do a manual cache of specific areas. My internet is consistently testing at 100Mbs and they say you need 50 for ideal photogrammetry performance. Was thinking of getting a VR headset and buying 2024 but not if PG doesn't work.

I love DX12 in 2020, it's much smoother for me. 2024 is abysmal though. Performance varies a lot and I've lost about 30-40% of frames. It's super unstable and full of bugs. I've refunded for now, it's pointless currently. Maybe in 6 months it will be worth another look.

@@VRFlightSimGuy It may be server related, I've had clear gauges in VR playing late at night and then most recently when playing at peak times they've become blurry on the same settings.
@mateuszw19952 ай бұрын
So they didn't fix the DLSS at all, it is the same shit as 4 years before, with blurry gauges? The performance looks like they didn't do anything with better optimisation - they just added a few new things with requires more compute power so the fps is lower. This is the same non-thruly-multithreading engine?
