I have both of these and the big difference between these two headsets is that Quest 2 has a usb3 port and G2 has Display port 1.4. That means that there is an additional layer of compression and decompression in the Quest 2 that you have to deal with if you're going to be using it for PCVR games. This compression not only tends to 'fuzzy up' the image but also introduces latency ... about 25 milliseconds worth on a good day. It CAN work, it IS doable but your experience is going to tend to be mediocre and you'll have to fiddle with the bitrates and such ... there is a lot to learn about what is going on in that extra layer of compression and you'll try all manner of settings and filters to try and optimize it. G2 on the other hand is very straight forward. The connection is fast, the image is crisp, the sound is fantastic, and the unit is comfortable out of the box. The only thing you'll be watching is trying to keep your milliseconds below 11 to play at 90Hz native refresh rate and adjusting your render rate. It's so easy to work with and get right compared to Quest 2 for PCVR. Hopefully Quest 3 won't be such a pain in the backside and the pancake lenses will make the experience worth fooling with the compression thing, which will still be there but hopefully be more manageable with the more powerful XR2 gen2 chip, the newly supported AV1 codec, and the 6e wifi .

I sold my G2 after a week. The sweet spot is a joke! Any slight movement off the sweet spot and the image is a blurry mess. Oh and the FOV is very small. The only good thing about the G2 is the resolution.

Hello, Thank you for your super video! Just a quick question please: I saw that with my Nvidia geforce gtx 1660 graphics card it says : half resolution for the HP Reverb G2! It means that it's not worth buying the HP for its better resolution compared to the Meta Quest 2, because it will not have this better resolution and only the half? Thank you for your advice. Daniel Genève
@zetapal Жыл бұрын
The 1660 is a great card but you're going to have to upgrade it if you want a decent VR experience, basically as high as you can afford. Not only are you basically asking the gpu to render two 4k screens but you're render resolution should be higher than 100%, like 140%, to get the best image due to barrel distortion. Cheers !

But then everything becomes a Smooth but blurry mess.I really want to use Quest 2 for the better resolution and virtually no screen door effect (Every other PCVR Game I play is with Quest 2 over Link/Air Link or VD smooth as a gravy sandwich.and crystal clear.MSFS Is a bastard to run but still very poorly optimised despite the recent updates.

I remember the bold Steve (VR Flight Sim Guy) reviewing MSFS on His 1080ti using Reverb G2 And Rift S .He never once mentioned cockpit stuttering on either headset? Either he didn't notice or as I suspect He was terrified to mention it as he was privileged to be a Beta Tester and didn't want to derail the freebee gravy train! Very much appreciate you content, has been a big help to me while trying to decide what to do for VR and MSFS. VR Flight Sim Guy posted a great vid "through the lens" showing sweet spot between G2 and Q2. In the vid the sweet spot in the G2 looked awful, just so blurry everywhere except dead center of the sweet spot. Is this something you have experienced? Do you simply get used to moving your head more to keep sweet spot centered? Seems like that is one of the big trade-offs a person has to make between the two headsets - smaller but clearer sweet spot, or larger but possibly less clear sweet spot. I do like the fact the G2 can be connected directly to GPU, and the added link between FB and the Q2 is disconcerting to say the least.

Quest 2 being cheap is not really true. You need to upgrade everything for it to even work like reverb G2. Head strap replacement, battery replacement, audio replacement, ... If you already have a gaming PC, that quest 2 is pretty useless as a standalone cause all the OLD PCVR games on Quest 2 are EXPENSIVE and graphically worse.

I got my Reverb G2 yesterday. Everything works fine with it on MSFS2020 but, man, the sweet spot is awful. I get sick trying to read the gauges and different screens. It's blurry just a few mm away. Hum… so far I use MSFS with a Quest2 (no accessories beyond usb3-c cable), and a 16gb laptop with a 1660ti… it is perfectly usable and once fine tuned, very smooth, and it never crashes now … (of course low-med details only) I have observed 2 things on my configuration though: first, I don’t use the sound of the headset because on my machine if I move my head fast, it triggers cracks and noise and stuttering frame rates… which disappeared when using the sound from the computer . Second, MSFS is the only game forcing me to restart my computer after having used it… it is not releasing video ram correctly, then after a few hours , I have to restart the laptop if I want it to keep running smoothly and I won’t be able to play other games as « not enough vram left » message will keep appearing until I restart. I will switch to a 3090 desktop to see if those issues will remain.
