@@rwlauterbach Not quite. The Quest 2 is an impressive product after 4 years of Oculus dragging its feet. It's a compelling standalone and wireless PC VR headset, that neither of the other two here are capable of. But as a wired PC VR headset, it sucks. Non-native encoded signals steal GPU horsepower, add extra latency, and if we're talking Oculus link, introduce compression that isn't present over wifi (VirtualDesktop). Maybe that's a sacrifice you're willing to make at this price point. But if we're strictly comparing technology independent of price, I think I'd even rate the Vive Cosmos+SteamVr tracking, wired and wireless, as superior.

Well... a couple of things i'd like to point out as i didn't hear it mentioned in the video and haven't seen it in the top few comments. 1) 2 3840x2160 panels is NOT the same as 8k. this head set is effectively 7680x2160. 8k resolution is 7680x4320. So, the headset is half 8k resolution... 2) the G2's resolution is 2160x2160. So it has the same vertical resolution as the XTAL. So, it's not surprising that it looks as good as the XTAL and sometimes exceeds the XTALs image quality. 3) The XTAL isn't giving you any additional image fidelity over the G2, it's giving you a MUCH wider field of view. Other than that, i say great video. I suspect there's something to do with sticking a camera inside a headset that doesn't capture the image fidelity of the headset properly... Maybe you need a probe lens, if you're not using one already that is. I imagine the it'll come down to the optics in the head sets to determine if the G2 or the XTAL has better image sharpness... oh and signal compression if there is any happening
@clivewalpole3 жыл бұрын
It’s the horizontal resolution that defines 4k or 8k, not the vertical resolution. The Xtal also has the capability for eye tracking and foveated rendering. This is a huge benefit over other headsets as it allows you to run the native resolution of the headset without requiring a supercomputer!

@@Venserql says a person who hasn't tried G2 tracking. If it's dogshit, then Q2 tracking is little smaller pile of dog shit. The difference isn't that huge. A bigger problem is some compatibility issues.

@@Venserql i personaly had no tracking issues with my G2. It even worked in fron of the christmas tree (HL Alyx) and the tracking also worked in an almost dark room (only 2 monitors and an rgb stripe were on)

Quest 2 always looks so choppy and the G2 looks so smooth in these videos, but they're both 90hz, right? Why is there such a difference in the fluidity? Especially in Asetto

Reverb g2 is lifelike. Are the controllers still bad?

I’ll take the g2 over the stall and use the savings on a ton of games

Damn. The G2 is killing it. If only the controllers didn’t suck. So stupid why didn’t HP just have Valve make them a Index controller that worked nativity with the G2s tracking. Even if it upped the price by $250 if would have been worth it. You get what you pay for. Oh and the fact that xtal is $8000 while it seems more on par with quest 2, confirms my suspension that these companies are just purposely trying to make VR inaccessible. They don’t want the video game market to change too much because of any hit to traditional profits. It’s like Megadodo said this hardware has not been that expensive for a long time.

It may look like the G2 has the advantage but you really have to try these headset's yourself to get a real understanding, for example the Xtal has a wider field of view than the others and is a more immersive experience so in a way its not really a fair comparison between the three headset's.

The thing about the HP Reverb G2 is that it's the best Virtual Reality headset in the sense that it only exists in a virtual reality. Try buying one... not even available for order on the HP site here or in any stockist.

The XTAL clearly is blurrier than both he headsets at the sides (8:00 shows this well at the right) Theres also other things that make it worse like the colour but a lot of other people have said that

Jeez give me the clarity of the G2 and the FOV of the xtal and 120hz and I'll be happy.
@gamesinsight38003 жыл бұрын
FOV would be very interesting. But you see only in some cases thst the Xtal outclasses the g2. I am not sure if the Sweetspot is so bad because of your camera that cannot display the full FOV of the Xtal. To me picture quality like the G2 is better... But given the small FOV and some other issues on the G2 it's still just the best Sweetspot. Quest 2 outclasses everything else with its price and performance.

The reverb is clearly better, but the visual resolution is not the only essential feature for a good VR experience, for me the real “snag” of the new HP Reverb are the very old controls, with 6 years on the back and associated with a platform which is not much loved and much less promising (WMR). Remember; VR time is not like in the real world, 6 years seems like 15 years for the guys from noVR! But maybe it's just an impression of distance, what do you think?

Now if we could get VR headset with a FOV of 130 degrees, 2560x 2560 per eye at 120hz I'd be golden.. but alas I just have to settle for the G2.
