This is nothing but CGI. What will it actually be like is the question we need to know the answer for.

This tech makes soooo many things obsolete. I believe AR also represents a dramatic revolution in human development on par with the development of the written language. Bravo! Bring it on MS, Magic Leap, Oculus and others. Please Augment our vision.

+Isaiah Coberly They just need to find a way to prevent the headaches/vomitting people experience from using it too long (1+ minutes for some)

The idea is there, I just doubt it'll work so well. I hope so. But AR is always very jittery, especially in low light.

Hololense was tested by nearly everyone who was at the event where it was announced. Google around and you can find reviews. This is 5 years in the making, with Microsoft having devoted about a thousand people to the project. They managed to keep it under wraps for that entire time. This may give you a clue as to how serious they are about the project. Much of the tech has already been proven in operation as individual components incorporated in to their gaming consoles. Since the announcement of Hololense, the Google CEO has announced that the Google Goggles program is going to be re-set, and they will be re-thinking the entire project.

the quality and the visual effect would be no where near this live CG video. however its still cool. I don't see much of a need for it.

Be amazing if it works anything like that...but I remember the amazing stuff that Kinect was going to do when they showed a similar "hype" video, it still sucked in reality.

This would be truly groundbreaking if it worked the way it does in this video and if the headset wasn't so bulky. Sadly, I don't think that will be the case for a while.

So you're telling me you're one of the few journalists who have tried it who all love it?

Nick Girard No, but I saw the live demo. I don't doubt that MS has made some improvements to AR tech with this headset, but just because the journalists like it doesn't mean it works as well as it does in this concept video. You're a sucker if you think they solved all the problems of AR overnight.

Man, you wouldn't like early computers then. Those things were the size of rooms. Yet, somebody had to invest in them and have some faith in new technology. You likely are typing this on a laptop which is around 17 inches in screen size... versus the multi-ton computers made in the 1950s. Things start big and then get small. Always.

Omega Actual Where did you get the impression that I'm dismissing the concept of AR out of hand? I said in my original comment that it will be groundbreaking once it's more compact and it works properly in a few years. I am very excited about this technology; that doesn't mean I can't point out its current flaws. And yes, the first computers _did_ suck. If we had settled for mediocrity back then, then we wouldn't have the sleek computers we have today. (Also, who wants a 17 inch laptop?)

Omega Actual That example almost supports the point made; early computers weren't suitable for your average consumer, and chances are this won't be either. The video, however, tries to show that it will be.

+cooldaddy1998 Haha. There was a .... Japanese? convention that should porn on those. There is a butt/boob you can squeeze while you VR touch them, and a hand.... I can only imagine what that is used for.
