Xbox going digital doesn’t hurt Xbox. Most people who own a Xbox mainly game on game pass. Reason being it’s not many games to even buy on the console to begin with. I’m a ps5 owner and in have a mix of digital games and physical. The games I want to try and usually don’t beat are digital. The games I cherish are physical. What games other than third party are you buying on xbox?

It also doesn't help when games now more than ever require updates or patches to fix certain issues. If you dont have these downloaded, it doesn't really matter that you own a physical copy. I personally don't care what or how people play games. But the idea that somehow physical means you own games out right went away in the 7th generation

@@jimmymac2292 I only buy physical copies that can be played offline so my games work with or without the servers. Also let's distinguish ownership. No I do not have the false notion of owning the IP of the game itself. I DO however own a copy of the games license when I purchase a physical one. I can take said license to another account, another console, transfer it to another person. I own a copy of the license. Not the IP, not the game, I own a copy of the license. With digital games, you also don't own the IP and you don't own the copy of the license. I won't say "your" because it's not your license. You are renting a game. That's all! Everything in my home is insured including collectibles which have been carefully photographed. Someone, in a rare case breaks into my home to steal my game collection (which I think is more of a longshot than servers getting shutdown i.e. WiiU, PS3, XB360) I will be compensated for my stolen collection. If they don't get stolen, then I can sell them for current market value at any time I wish, thus also being compensated. Owning digital games is like renting. You've got a place to live but nothing to show for it.

Another thing that kind of sucks about them taking out the disc drive is the fact that you can't watch 4K Blu-rays without it. Sure, most people are going to get a dedicated player, but it's nice having a player built in, especially since it can allow people to get their toes into buying a movie physically if they want to. Sure, Microsoft's Blu-ray player app isn't the best, but at least it's there and it's usable.

I literally use my PS5 and Series X as 4K Blu Ray players because I just don't ahve the room to buy a dedicated player. I'm so sick of this "all digital" and steaming shit.

75% of Sony games sales were digital for the first half of the fiscal year 2023. It's not a huge selling point.

I don’t have an Xbox but am concerned as a Nintendo fan a bit if they pick up the bad habit. Powerful to weaker and smaller with remove feature. Isn’t that apple idea, lol. I doubt Nintendo would because kids buying the physical game but they do have the digital voucher system. I also know alot of games that don’t have physical versions and if you do have the membership you have access to an entire old library. Digital might become the standard instead of the option that would be scary.

I used to love the convenience of digital but had my come to Jesus moment and realized its hurting the industry. I do still love their controllers, however most of my love goes to the Switch and PS5 now. Gamepass is just a spider web to trap you into the all digital future.

Even if you buy games digitally, the puchases are tied to that one account. If you lose the account, bye bye games, and by extension, money. Physical are always there as long as you take care of your discs.

Physical games are already iffy, there are "physical games" that don't have the whole game on disc/cart, they need to download updates to actually be complete, fully working games. The decline of physical games started years ago, before Xbox or Sony released digital-only consoles (baring the PSP Go).

Digital for multiple reasons is bad. First if the game gets pulled off the digital market it's gone for good. Second most digital games are just licenses that can be revoked (see Rockstar games). It's covenient not having to switch game discs but if I don't own my games that I'm gonna have to pay a decent amount of money for why bother?
