Very good review. You concentrated on the distinctive points of the phone without falling in the comparison trap, which is a balance hard to find! If you are not a WP user, this makes it even more surprising. it's harder to show passion and still be square to truth at the same time!. I have enjoyed your voice a lot, you have excellent diction and modulation, it's soothing and has a musical cadence to it which I only find in British dialects, that makes the listening experience more vibrant (or maybe it's my Doctor Who inner fan speaking... :-) You have very effective models, it's like we are watching a short film instead of a video talking about a phone, both the woman and the baby gave that natural, familiar, relaxed environment of a family film, but with a script behind (like the writing with the markers pointing features, that was neat!). I have found the narrative approach novel and refreshing, that's another thumbs up! Then the music is soothing and it doesn't get in the middle, but it helps to set the tone, and the landscape shots are fantastic! Were you shooting in the middle of a flooding? Or is it some kind of flood lake? The red bricks and the swan and the light gave the whole scene some postapocalyptic overtone, it really proved your comments about dynamic range! And while those shoots were done with the Lumia 950, the rest was obviously not. Might I ask which recording equipment did you use? The quality is like, again, we are watching a film, with that vigneting and texture. Very interesting, indeed. Overall, a really good review and presentation. Congratulations!

+David S. de Lis Hi David, We choose music that deliberately complements vo rather than of a similar tone / pitch, the camera we used was the Cannon D600 with a 50 mm lens. The flood footage is taken on the River Severn Worcester. We wanted to give an overarching story line visually that complemented the VO and that was worthwhile to watch. Thanks for all the feedback. Really like you review! One thing I would say about the design I that the live tile system in my opinion is the most sleek and modern when comparing it to iOS and Android. Having said that, many apps within W10 Mobile are incomplete. Microsoft are focusing on stability of W10 rather than the UX/UI at this moment. I will be interested to see how different the UI is when I RS2 releases next year.

All 950 and xl users attention try setting scaling on L950 to 350% instead of 400% on the xl set it to 300% from 350% if the text is too small just go to: Ease of acces > more options > text scaling to your choice ;)

I do agree, this phone has a very specific target market and does a great job appealing to them. However, it is difficult recommending a phone like this to Android or Apple users. I wanted to ask, many early adopters reported a highly volatile experience with several bugs in WIndows 10 for Mobile. Is that still the case?

+Matthew Jardine The bugs are gone, last builds (especially the builds that are called 'Redstone' by Microsoft), my 950 is performing really fluid and doesn't crash anymore. Continuum is mind-blowing and the camera gives insane performance. You won't get Snapchat, but hey... That's just for kids! The removable battery is a nice feature, because it gives the ability to go from 0-100 within 30 seconds!

Fantastic review! I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while, that camera really does look amazing. Did you get a chance to test it in loud environments, say a concert or festival? The last Nokia I had unbelievable audio quality when you played videos back.

+will1565 Hi @Will1565. We haven't test it a festivsl however the audio capture is good on this phone. The 4 microphones set up 2 at front 2 at back should improve sound recording enormously and at 48k you are getting a higher quality sample rate. However recording at festivals will never give a great audio capture by using a phone :) because outside, background noise, natural acoustics. Thanks for the feedback!

+fonehouse you'd actually be surprised on how good it is at recording at festivals, concerts or in general live acoustics in open/closed environements, I recorded so much live music with my Lumia 930 and the audios is always so crisp and beautifull, it's like i'm always returning at that same spot i'm listening to...

one thing i like with my samsung galaxy note4 is the screen and sd card place.but what i liked most and was suprised worked was when i bougth a micro usb for the phone in the other end of rhe short adapter is a female normal zise usb.i plugged in my lg tastatur and mouse in one k400 is the tastatur model.when i plugged inn the tastatur/mouse resiver dongle in the phone,s google app or samsung app promted mee to buy a app for this use.i dident dowload anything and it work fine.i am going to buy a litle hub for it with hdmi out usb to note4 and 2 usb for tastatur and the other can be used for charging the note 4.i am going to try out a standard 4 ports usb hub for pc with its own power adapter to the wall to see iff that work.I fixes phones and pads pc and amplifiers etc.35 years of constant learning.

Not to start country flame wars... But every American based reviewer just calls the phone cheap, ugly, brittle, flimsy, etc. The one UK based reviewer I see can appreciate the subtle beauty of the phone. It's just so odd. Those same reviewers will say a metal phone has 'cons' of not having a removable battery or external storage, yet they list the build of a phone with a removable battery as a con. You can't have a removable battery and a metal build because the back is sealed. It's like complaining a Fiat can't tow 5,000 kgs. It's not that that's a con against the Fiat, it was never intended or designed to do that. Now if you have a plastic phone with a sealed in battery and no expandable storage, that's a pretty foolish and quite frankly dumb move. Oh well. I guess that's the tech world -- a perpetual circle jerk.

Yes dear when i m playing a song in it..Its gradually slower from starting..& not more apps to use in store..so that I hate song doesn't plays in a constant volume..(Starts louder and after 10 to 15 second its became slower) for this reason I contact the microsoft store support..they told me tht all Lumia 950 are lyk this..They dont give a satisfied resolution..So I just hate it..waste of money

Kar Debasis I have a lumia 925 and it has the same problem. It's not due to the phone..its mainly due to the OS. It will gradually get better, though I do acknowledge that it was a dick move by microsoft to release a OS which wasn't ready for the public on their main phone.
