You couldn’t have explained it better! Like the ease you have getting the point across. Making the viewer understand about proper pointing of the gun so the heat is isolated to the chip and the residual heat goes away off the board. That is a good arrow! Very straightforward!

Are you using a barlow lens to have more space for the hot air? Without one seems have to hold nozzle almost sideways, especially with the bulk of an led ring
@TheArtofRepair2 жыл бұрын
Correct! im using a .5x barlow which gives you 165mm of working room, so you can aim in from the chest as you should. =) 1x has 100mm of working room.
@mrsemifixit2 жыл бұрын
@@TheArtofRepair Have you tried a 0.7x barlow? Curious the difference between the two
@TheArtofRepair2 жыл бұрын
@@mrsemifixit yes .7x should give 134mm, you can try one if you like, im sure its fine, I just like the most working room possible, as the zoom at that level is more than enough.

Great video! How far do you have your nozzle when, let's say, you're desoldering some large underfilled IC like the nand or Wi-Fi? I understand that it can vary depending on the airflow you have set on your hot air station, but I would really love to know the distance at which you feel comfortable desoldering.
@TheArtofRepair6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, The closer you are the better in my opinion. I think some people get thrown off on distance because they cannot see the component and don't trust their own work yet. I would say maybe 3x the thickness of the chip itself is plenty, and if you use a straight nozzle and cannot hit that angle, still being pretty close helps, its direct heat toward the target not to surrounding things. Thanks for checking out my video btw, feel free to always leave comments, and ill do my best to anwser any questions you have =D
@nunogarcia94466 жыл бұрын
@@TheArtofRepair Thanks for your prompt and useful response. The temperature set in the hot air station is not the same that arrives to the IC and it varies with distance, hence I do things carefully as to not cook the IC or popcorn the PCB itself. Perhaps I'm not heating the ICs enough, at least considering the time it takes me for the IC (namely Wi-Fi) to come off the board, in comparison with other KZbin videos. Since I'm working on my own boards, I guess I can try and experiment. Again, thanks for your help. Keep up the great content.

@MoyDeeGaming6 жыл бұрын
It might sound obvious to some of us experienced soldered but I have to remind myself to do this. Stuff when I’m having trouble too. I’m probably also one of the people that he’s talking about. I’ve told Justin so many times that I hate working by the CPU, just remember these principles and you got it. Just don’t put a super heavy coin on the CPU because that can cause problems. R.I.P ticket #12384

i've been using kapton tape along side my hot air for years and never had a single issue with surrounding components. even complicated repairs have never been an issue. use kapton tape, flux(i personally like kingbo flux), some common sense and hot air rework isn't rocket science.
@TheArtofRepair6 жыл бұрын
I mean you said it yourself, you have been doing this for years. On the flipside of Kapton tape, iv seen MANY techs who float everything under the Kapton because the Kapton is stuck to it, and they do not know the proper timing/heat which is definitely a learned skill on its own. Learning how to direct the energy you are working with is still an important baby step in moving forward, that coupled with using Kapton can for sure greatly increase your success rate. I appreciate your comment and hope to see more from you in the future =D Thanks for watching =)

@@TheArtofRepair Hi Justin great vids, I'm into repairs not that of an expert with iphone boards but I watch different techniques. What do you suggest to protect and isolate the surrounding components. It's true what you said when sticking kapton tape components could slide if they're sticked to the tape. But I've seen some people sticking each of the ends of kapton tape just to the table. Can a small ram memory heatsink work instead of a coin ? or a coin it's enough ?

Hi, I've been thinking about this problem Apple have been putting in front of people like you and Louis, and now trying to use Amazon against yourselves maybe eBay in the future if it isn't already. Somebody needs to start up a co-op for electronics generally apple sales and repair, If you can get together with other repair shops, and people who sell Apple products and other electronics there's no restriction of course. Make an app so people can easily search what they need to buy and services in their area they can use. Good thing about the Co-op co-operative business, is everybody who uses the Co-op for their business practice is the owner as well and have a saying how it's run, it is a true democracy business plan. Just use Amazon and eBay as your marketing tool and other social media, I think businesses will be attracted by it because they become an owner and further down the line if you floated shares on the stock market the reward would be greater for these companies. Doesn't stop them using other platforms like Amazon either. As the saying goes if you can't beat them join them and beat them at their own game. You have to work together all of you to stop Apple trying to put you down and out of business. And the other benefit is that you are a registered business as a co-op doesn't have to be in America, what is harder for somebody like apple to try and take you down just think of it as ants in a hive the Hive is the business co-op, and the Ants are individual businesses in Co-op
