'Whisper' is a hybrid car made by LPE. It is the next generation of hybrid vehicles and not only both practical and economical but even better for the environment.
It's a roomy full seven seated and as with other hybrid vehicles it's fuel efficient with lower mission, low cost and is extremely versatile.
So what set to the path from the rest?
Well its run by a small micro-turbine power plant which itself is half the weight of the engine it replaces.
This turbine runs on bio-diesel or diesel compare to conventional vehicles hard, carbon emissions are halved and a much less than other existing hybrid vehicles.
The batteries which are exceptionally light and giving a robust 310 volt, 410 amp electric system can be charged up at the mains electric supply have required. To maximize efficiency the car employs regenerated breaking system which recovers 25% of energy lost from deceleration.
The turbine kicks in when combine charge stored in the batteries comes down to predetermined level.
This charge means the car can cover over 40 miles on electrical power alone. And the turbine only needs to kick in when the car is in rural areas away from city congestion.
How does it drive?
Well it has a huge low speed torque responsive acceleration, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour enough even for the autobahn.
The gear box maximize the efficiency of the electric motor increasing flexibility and provides up to 80 miles per gallon, even at high speeds you won't hear more than whisper.

This system would be perfect for yachts (where batteries alone are not enough and conventional diesel generators are too dirty and noisy)

I’m all for a turbine charger. You can’t go completely electric. This is innovation and allows the driver the ability to have a peppy engine without worrying about range. What is a Tesla hitting right now? 200-300? I know batteries are getting better but you can’t just shut the oil industry down. This is more efficient and economical than electric right now.

@Adam A. + it can run on renewable fuels like ethanol, DME, methane, vegetable oil, etc.

I'm guessing cost is holding this back. Traditionally a turbine engine is orders of magnitude more expensive than a reciprocating unit for a given power output.

Very good and already known concept. But there are huge fights behind the scene for the "best" concept to drive cars or trucks.

US EPA and CARB will find a way to nix such an efficient concept--especially because gas turbines can use any liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon fuel, and that's a BIG no-no. This is a five-year-old video, so how has the concept come along since its introduction?

it may be good for range extender solution . in combine with good battery system it is true Environmental solution until full battery system break though fast charge and great energy density and safe issue.

battery capacity must be indicated in KW like all other electric cars builders (except BMW who hide they i3 small battery behind amps , without volt indication...), not in Volts/Amps...

So - yeah, I still want to buy a micro turbine as a range extender and yeah, well made video, but ... what would a gearbox do on an electric motor?
@Traqr
@Traqr 7 жыл бұрын
Paul Hendrix That means it's a Brushless DC motor rather than AC induction. Brushless has about 15% better peak efficiency but the fixed magnetic field strength gives a relatively narrow performance band, so it needs a gearbox. AC induction continuously changes it's effective field strength to match the conditions so it can be a lighter, more reliable system but it loses a bit in raw efficiency. Add gearbox losses on BLDC and the more difficult controller design of an AC VFD and you can see why carmakers can't seem to make up their minds. Tesla uses AC induction, for example.

Thank you! I dont know any major electric car using BLDC, could you enlighten me once more? Great explanation.

Found a great write-up that clarifies & corrects some minor points I made on Tesla's blog: tesla.com. Basically, hybrids use BLDC and pure electrics use Induction, at least so far.

as far as I know most hybrids use an AC induction motor for efficiency I have never heard of a brushless DC

@@Traqr Add regenerative braking and the BLDC design becomes difficult anyway. On the AC design Regenerative braking is practically built into the VFD drive. Add to that the ability to do power factor correction and load balancing through VFD controllers most likely makes the tradeoff in "peak efficiency" more appealing than BLDC. So it is easy to see why Tesla went that way. A computer could balance the torque applied to each wheel. But I would agree that BLDC would be be more efficient on larger vehicles like diesel electric trains or large hybrid semi trucks. (or "simple" cars like a solar powered car designed for a maximum range competition)

Why not a hydrogen micro-turbine? Almost emissions free then and only need to use hydrogen when traveling over 40 miles.

Where u get the hydrogen from? I would suggest use biogas from waist. Could power ur house with this and u can use it in a car. And 40miles on the battery alone would for me already be good enough for everyday driving around. I want 2.

make a much smaller turbine that looks like a long pipe so it drags out the energy, and run it all the time, so it starts extending the range as soon as the car is operated. Just like a diesel-electric train. Oh! And where is the car?

How many mechanics would you need to service micro turbines? What happens to gas companies if your car gets 150 mpg? Sudden change is usually a very bad thing for very many people. The future will happen hopefully without too much pain.

Not a new idea…remember “Rosen Motors”! They killed the electric car in the ‘70’s, now they’re embracing it with hardly any infrastructure in place. So now they’ll kill the Turbine-Electric hybrid!
