Thanks for the tip with microwave. Been putting them in the oven for a few minutes at 300. Been using dowelmax for years- just had the single guides and found the newer version with various dual spacings a huge time saver and accurate. My joinery is “rock solid” as George V would say.

@@NickFerry I need to clarify- I use the Dowl- it 2500 not the Dowel Max. So confusing! It has replaceable drill bushings and can set up two holes with a couple of spacings at once accurately. Yours might be better.

Hey nick looking good and love your down to earth videos. I also use Dowelmax and like it a lot. I use a aluminum foil and the oven to dry my dowels. It I’m going to try the microwave. Another trick I learned to dry fit my projects I lightly sand a bunch of dowels and very lightly spray paint them so when dry fitting they go in and come out easily. Good people at Dowelmax give them a plug.
@NickFerry4 жыл бұрын
Good idea - I did that with a few dominos - the Dowelmax is solid - I talked with the owner a bit and he seemed very knowledgeable and was super helpful - I might have to do a quick video showing the jig a little bit more because I’ve had quite a few people express interest in it

Awesome tip. Back in the day I cut some forks from a tree to send to Joerg from the wood shop channel, I asked him if he needed me to seal them so they didn't crack. He also recommended just microwaving them. Hot damn did they steam out for a while. Took a few cycles but definitely dried things out. And holy jeez, it's been a bit since I've tuned in and someone has microwaved Nick as well =D Looks like you're gonna need a new icon and header art for your channel.
@NickFerry4 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting that you talk about microwaving the wood to send because back in the day I had friends of mine that would measure the moisture content of stock by microwaving samples and checking for absolute zero moisture content and doing the weight calculations - that was never really my thing but it was always interesting to see - and thanks man 👊🏼
