The GPU landscape is crazy right now. Almost have to sell your kidney to get one. I sold my old RX580 8GB for $290 CDN at the beginning of the year then watched the resale value double shortly after that. I'm well set in that regard (got a 3080) so I don't mind but it's insane.

Why complain about the MSRP when the MSRP has no effect on the actual price that you can find them for? Nothing is available for MSRP, people charge what the market can bear for them, with retailers probably often paying more than MSRP even when buying wholesale.

And you still got totally ripped off. The Radeon RX 6650 XT should've launched at $149 or less and the RX 6600 XT should've been $129 and the RX 6600 should've been under $100 like $89 MSRP. So yeah, right now considering the Radeon RX 6600 XT is now about to be replaced by the RX 7600 XT it shouldn't be any higher than $100 new right now and that's being real generous to AMD. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti beats the Radeon RX 6650 XT in every benchmark. NVidia's card just crushes it.

A good number of consumers just want the best of the best. When they saw how much we were willing to pay for a card, they figured they could continue charging that much. well, FSR does exist, but the 8x PCIe 4 and the memory speed and all that, yikes. Yep, still on my GTX970 which VRAM aside was a fantastic card for the time. As was the 1070. With the new consoles out though, if you want a GPU to last the next 5-6 years or so, the 6800XT would be the one to get if it could be had for MSRP. But with the crossgen period also being way longer this round with games still being developed around the base Xbox One, maybe I'll just play on low at 1080p for another year or two, because what's even the point if the games that'll actually leverage the new GPUs only come along when they're halfway through their lifecycle?

Every corporation would, it's what makes them a corporation. More or less, at least - this, and indeed literally anything Nvidia has ever done, don't even come close to approaching the shit Intel pulled in the decade they had a monopoly. It's a difference of kind, not of degree. Beyond refusing to support that sort of monopolistic nonsense (wherein things stagnate entirely until someone forces you to stop selling the same thing at a new price every year), having positive feelings about a multi-billion dollar corporation is the kind of thing that should be associated with children who really like a certain superhero, not grown adults who think they're smarter than console owners.

Yep, mid-range is dead, and they killed it. You've perfectly captured that feeling of exhaustion about the new graphics card of this generation. It's either going to be overpriced or you can't buy it. Back in the day, that kind of bad value would make the release DOA. Literally everything will sell.

Exactly. As Steve said, what better deal you have currently when everything is out of stock or being scalped? If you still have a PC and are happy, keep it. If not try to optimise it the best you can without spending money on new hardware. If you must buy something, go if possible to the higher tier were performance per dollar spent is better. And try not to be too much scalped.

The MSRP could have been 100 lower and the street price would be the same, so I'm not going to complain about MSRP. I don't think these prices are good, and I'm not going to buy one of these even at MSRP, but I'm also not going to complain about it. Cards being close to or even more than double MSRP, that's the reality right now, and that's what I'm complaining about. I wish more people would have been patient and just not bought anything, waiting for prices to come down more before buying.

People must remember the Gen4 / Gen3 issues are even greater of a concern when you are talking the 8x bus these cards run on. If you run this on a older Gen3 platform that usually would be no problem with a 16x card like a 3060 but these being 8x cards take a much great hit on Gen3 systems. It's essentially the same bandwidth as very old Gen2 16x when you run this 8x card on Gen3 spec. I have five of these 6600XT left and just yesterday finally replaced my last 2 B450 boards with X570 for Gen4 support and more M2 Gen4 slots. Great deals though, sold a Tomahawk B450 for $80 and bought a brand new Asus Tuf x570 for $80. Very little upgrade costs from selling off these older boards for newer. Granted some games have very little gains on Gen4. Sad they would make these 8x cards as they know plenty of people would pair these more budget ranged cards with older systems.

Also, this is probably a very niche environment, but I'd love to get some data on how these cards fare on VR titles! After having this card for two months now I can say that this card is okay at best. First off it has a bad coil whine in games that have uncapped frame rates on menus/loading screens. Train Simulator of all things is the worst in this regard (frames rate in the thousands! in loading screens) but was fixed by limiting the frame rate. I don't have the fan quirks that were shown in this video. The fans don't even turn on until the junction temperature hits 60 C where they run around 1350 RPM and goes up and down with the junction temperature. If the junction temperature drops to 54 C they turn off. Control is the only raytracing game I own and it absolutely kills this card. It's the only game I have to run at 1080p and even then the framerate still drops into the 20s at times with raytracing on. Flight Simulator is also a rough one but it's still able to run it on ultra at 1440p over 30 fps most of the time. Other games that I have like Resident Evil 7, Forza Horizon 4, and GTA V can run over 100 fps on "ultra" settings although there's some stutter at times especially in Resident Evil 7. Not sure if that's due to my older CPU (Ryzen 2700X) or because I'm on a PCIe 3 motherboard. I think under normal market conditions this card would be $250 or perhaps even less. At MSRP ($380 for this model) it is way overpriced and at the scalper's prices it's ridiculous.

Gaming consoles just make PC hardware pricing look absolutely stupid right now. The Series X APU is probably a similar power to the 6600XT - more powerful if anything - combined with a 3700X. Yet the whole console is just $120 more than the MSRP of the GPU by itself. The whole current state of the GPU market is basically like paying launch MSRP for the 7800GTX a year after the Xbox360 came out. Which nobody did back then even when the 360 was new. PC Gaming was a tiny niche compared to the consoles until the 8800GT came along and made it something people could buy into.

At least it's a realistic RRP for the current market. Bear in mind RRP might as well be imaginary anyway. While fab supply vs demand is so constrained, Radeon needs to sell at a premium to be worth AMD letting it have 'any' capacity next to Ryzen. Maybe supply will equalise more in 2023 when new fab facilities come online maybe - then larger profits can be had from the larger volume sales of servicing the 200-300 price point instead of letting resellers get a monopoly of that pie. The bigger problem is that the long term effect of this would possibly be this inflation would permanently drive the tiered card prices up. It would be a shame to see future mid range offerings being offered at 400 dollars while high end market starts north of 1000. I fear these orgs have already realized for a fact that this exhorbitant leaching would still fetch them customers in the longer run even after the pandemic. So they will keep up this practice to stretch their yoy margins. The days of pc as master race seems to be on the verge of an end, even a console at 900 dollars makes way more sense at this point.

In a perfect world, it would have. But...Inflation; the value of the Dollar isn't static, and with transportation and manufacturing increases across the board and the Dollar losing measurable value almost by the day now, why wouldn't video cards increase in price by the roughly 15% average that every other new product has since March? In this economy, even a price comparison to new cards from six months ago is apples to oranges since manufacturers can't take the hit of changing the MSRP on already existing cards that they may now be making no margin...or even taking a loss...on, but they CAN ensure they actually make their margin on new launches.

Given their behavior this past year, I really want to give the middle finger to both Nvidia and AMD. They’ve largely abandoned the mid range and budget segments, and I’m very much tempted to return the favor by buying from neither of those bastards.

Queue intel arc! AMD and nVidia were gracious enough to leave the low to mid segment to them this generation so they could make a viable entrance, or so it would seem. In no way are AMD and nVidia motivated by the fact that intel will be opening their fabs up for contracting and need the money, nope, no way, not at all, no.

A small thing to keep in mind: this card is only x8 PCIE bandwidth so it will have a slightly better performance on PCIE gen.4 vs gen.3. You only tested on a gen.3 motherboard.

at this point im wishing Intel's upcoming Discrete GPUs are competitive enough to shake up this duopoly market. These prices are a fucking joke. Its not like these cards even sale at MSRP and Nvidia and AMDs earnings and stock values are through the roof rn.

Retail prices don't impact NVidia and AMD earnings. Their profits come from board partners, not consumers. When their profits increase, it means they charged board partners more for GPUs or actually sold board partners more GPUs.... Or in AMD's case, they charged retailers/resellers and/or SI's more for CPUs.....or actually sold them more CPUs.... By the time you buy a graphics card or CPU, the retailer/reseller or SI is the only company that hasn't been paid yet....

*Keep in mind* These benchmarks were done BEFORE ReBar was activated, and older drivers. *As of right now* The 6600xt with Resize on, in a gen 4 slot can indeed BEAT the 3060 ti in some titles now, and be very close otherwise. It is very important to note this.

Heh… in the market 3060 is about $80 more expensive than this so no it is not so much better than this… i expect that 3060 prices may come down so that they are about $30 more expensive than these to remain competative… No there are no good valua gpus at this moment… only gpus that has bad and some more bad prices…

I'm really looking forward to upgrading from the 580 I have right now, but I paid $120 for this card and it's doing the job well enough. Exactly like Steve points out, I could upgrade from the 580 to something like the 6600XT (which I was hoping to see much better performance out of) and it would be an upgrade, but I would be paying an overly expensive price for it. Oh well. I hope 2022 is better for GPUs...

@@WebHead948 yeah, I just saw a 570 4GB on the Facebook marketplace for like $300. If you can get this card at MSRP and sell yours for at least $300 you might just have a good deal. It all depends on whether or not you can sell it at a good price though... But I would consider looking into it. I have a 5700XT and was thinking about doing the same, but I'm broke as fuck.

@@iamatlantis1 PowerColors top end is great. Their bottom end is trash. That's ALWAYS been the case. It's not like Sapphire where their base cards are still generally above average. It's where Nvidia arguably has the advantage because every manufacturer has to compete with the stock model, giving them a decent starting point while it's only this generation of AMD where the stock cards started getting adequate designs so it'll be a while before companies catch up.
