Great video Joey! I love the way you farm the old school way. Keep up the good work. I learned this yr on tomatoes I used black plastic which was the best decision I ever made and I used pelleted calcium nitrate and I will say that almost completely solved all my blossom end rot problems! Good luck and keep praying for rain. God bless!

All, I can say is great video. It was like walking around right with you. You covered numerous things well. A suggestion for your tomato problem, save your egg shells. Let them dry good and run them thru the blender. Come planting time, throw a small had full in the hole and stick the plants in. Glad you got a little moisture anyway, hope more comes your way. Our last rain was around the first part of May. It is sure taking a lot of irrigation water to keep up. Luckily we have not had 100 degree days yet, but they will show up. If a I loose any top soil it would be from wind, but try to keep someone on the top of the soil. I plow each year, try to do it just before it freezes, think it helps getting rid of some insects. Understand your thoughts about the drivers on the road today. As you know, I spent my working days in a patrol car. I put part of the blame on law enforcement today. It appears both the motoring public and law enforcement are not concerned about 10 to 15 mph over the posted speed limit. I alway worked on the plan that eight over the posted speed was going to get you stopped and most likely a citation. Our state is having record traffic deaths and they can see why. Anyway, will get off my soapbox. Have a good week. Blessings to your family. Looking forward to the next video. Take care, Brother.

We all lose soil and we all try to improve our land. Please never use any chemical or glysophate on your land, it's bad stuff. Any time you add back carbon to the soil it will only improve it, like plowing your corn stalks back. All chemical fertilizers have to be ingested by microbes for them to work and it takes carbon for this to work. That's why organic fertilizers like chicken and cow manure really help. Any legumes like, beans. Peas, vetch can also add nitrogen back to the soil also whether as a crop or cover crop. Just plow them back in. As long as you are growing good crops, you are doing great. You are a good farmer and doing the Lords work.. Always enjoy the videos.

Joey put some pelleted gypsum in pre plant for that blossom end rot and fertilize the tomatoes with calcium nitrate when they start blooming. If your ph is right that will cure the problem.

Consider the ferris 800isx or stihl equivalent for mower if you have a rough yard. Nothing compares in ride quality! There's better options available if your yard is smooth and not bumpy.
@Jtwes
@Jtwes Ай бұрын
The ride is super rough on my yard because I’m always driving on it when I shouldn’t but to be honest my main concern is I have about 10% flat out of the acres I mow and goodness some of it will make you start praying especially if it’s damp. I seen tons of videos that say that cub with a steering wheel is a goat on hills.

Hey Joey, not to beat a dead horse but I'm with you on the soil issue. I firmly believe the ground has to be turned over at least every couple of years if not every year. My neighbor lost all of the fish in his pond and said he thought round-up was suppose to be safe? 🤔 Btw, Epsom salt will take care of your bottom rot on the tomatoes 👍

Thanks for sharing the video Joey. Glad you got some rain. Hopefully tonight I can get some. It was 98 up here today. My Dad says all the time what are some of these farmers going to do when the spray quits working and you have to go back to tillage and cultivating crops. Most of the younger ones don't know how to do what we do since we came up doing it. Hope you can get some more rain and I hope your crops do well. Hey 12-14 years ago me and my wife's uncle I worked for on the farm were raising watermelons before he passed away and we would have so many at times we just ate the hearts out of it and threw the rest to the cows as we didn't have any hogs then. Yes sir you are right about drivers. Stay safe out there working and driving. Sorry I had company and missed the live. Take care and God Bless Y'all.

Good video Joey. Your garden is looking good. As long as the deer or other varmints don't eat your watermelons you will be set up for a lot of them. You are 100% right about we can see something even though they try to tell us that we don't. Be careful driving on those interstates. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there and they all think they have to be first. God Bless!

Really enjoyed this video ! Love the tour of it all and the equipment. The ole dirt pan brought back memories of grandpa. He had one and the mule to pull it. He told brother and I we could build a pond and have our own fish. Well that mule took full advantage of us not knowing anything about plowing and to say the least that pond never happened ! Lol. Keep your faith in God ! He will see us through all these “ situations “. On earth we will have trials but I’m the main one who has to remind myself, this is earth and we’ll get the easy stuff in heaven. I wonder in heaven if we will have to wait so long for a watermelon to get ready to eat ? Lol. Take care of yourself and look forward to next video

I think it was me commenting about soil erosion in another video when you we’re cultivating. I didn’t mean to offend you or criticise your methods, I’m learning myself about No-till, soil structure,organic matter and how our soil works and it’s recently concerned me when I’ve been cultivating my garden. I love to watch all your videos and seeing all that you grow on a small scale with the old Farmalls and was just wondering your thoughts on it, keep up the good work - Cheers

Hey Gabriel like I said on the video not a bad comment at all. Just one that makes you take thought on what you’re doing. That’s a good thing. I could tell you stories of tobacco farmers in our community that made rows straight up and down hills and would loose mountains of soil. lol

@@Jtwes Absolutely, and every farm is different - every soil type is different, and each requires its own methods of tillage for each crop. Thanks for your thoughts

I was on the county soil conservation board in the mid seventys and 80s and I know there was a lot of education about soil erosion. And a lot of progress was made. But what I see now days is a lot of planting slopes that shouldn't be farmed and because of the huge size of the equipment it is planted straight up and down the hills. Consequently I see more erosion then When I was growing up in the 60s. Then when a ditch develops that will be hard to cross someone will take a disc and smooth it up. Loosening the soil so it blows out the dirt even bigger. Seldom is wheat or rye planted and a perennial grass to hold it. But if they do they don't shut the sprayers off at the wash points. There are no grass waterways anymore.
