Really interesting how some of the bare rooted trees died down from the top like that. Good to know it doesn't just happen when I buy bare rooted stock
@greenwoodbonsaistudio3 жыл бұрын
they had been dug in Holland and out the ground too long, we usually get better results than this time. But it all works out okay in the end.

I have to apologize to you, Corin. I, apparently, had not seen this video where you introduced Ugi, the ferocious guard dog. Just chilling and enjoying being with you and the bonsai. Good boy. Enjoy him.

Would you defoliate a maple tree at a similar development stage/age as the trees you show in this video (the ones that were bare rooted)? Or would that not benefit the development of the tree and is more used when you’re in a refinement stage of development?
@greenwoodbonsaistudio3 жыл бұрын
no, they are young and are best putting energy into new growth to develop.

The first video on acer defoliation was longer, and in more detail. This is the follow up video, as most work was already done in part one, so these follow ups will always be shorter.

I have followed your techniques on an Arakawa maple of trimming back, not defoliation, and it hasn’t regrown, no new buds, nothing. Is there anything different with this variety
@greenwoodbonsaistudio3 жыл бұрын
NO, not really, healthy arakawa are very good, some can be weak at apex, which you have to be careful off. It you have just trimmed it back it will re grow, as they send out multiple flushes of growth in the season.

When is the right time to change the pot, could it be done at the same time as the leaves were removed? Thank you.
@greenwoodbonsaistudio11 ай бұрын
It can be, if not in Spring before leaf
@peterjohnson3503 жыл бұрын
Another interesting video. Amazing leafing out on the defoliated tree. Was this kept in a greenhouse? It was good of you to show the progress of the bare root trees, even when growth has not gone to plan. There is hope for the rest of us.

it was in a very well ventilated un heated greenhouse

I have an hornbeam, last March I repotted and let it grow, today I pruned leaving 2-3 leaves each branch and defoliated just the leaves at the start of the branches, the places where they accumulate, Do you think it is too much? It’s halfway between pruning and partial defoliation
@greenwoodbonsaistudio3 жыл бұрын
depends on the tree, keep an eye out for our hornbeam pruning video coming out next week !

No "food" for the tree...guys, we need to clear it up that fertilizer is not food for the tree. Plants make their own food through photosynthesis. Fertilizer is supplemental nutrition, something that helps aid the tree/plant in metabolic activities. Sorry, just wish we as a community could get this one thing understood and taught correctly...maple is looking good tho. My deciduous are rocking out so far this year.
