I was playing the 301CB’s, got fit for MP221/223 combo set…played them for two months and went back to the Takomo’s. They really are a great set of irons and the price range makes them an excellent value.

Had a chance yesterday to hit my buddy's 301CB irons. First off, these are stunning looking irons in the bag and the topline is a perfect players profile (not too chunky, not razor thin). I love the beveled leading edge - it really made the club move through the turf super easy. Distance was very true to my current clubs (Srixon ZX7). Definitely noticed a higher ball flight but it wasn't spinny. The ball launched very easily and landed soft on a dime. I didn't try to flight them down but I reckon you could do that easily. What impressed me the most was the feel/sound. I've been a Srixon guy for several years and these felt every bit as good as my current ZX7 irons. Very well done, Takomo!

Got fitted for Mizuno pro 225 irons, 5-PW, €1400. I couldn't justify spending that much so I brought 201 4-PW for €700. Played really well and bad with them but that's down to me not playing enough golf yet this year. Clubs are as good as the big manufacturers in my opinion.

Hi Dan. Might be a good idea to let the viewers know about the added costs, there will be the dreaded extra Vat cost of 20% + an additional customs administration charge. I say this from experience, having bought from Takomo in the past. That said its still quality at a great price.

Between them and Sub70 hard to beat if you're not a brand loyalist. I was giving Sub70 a hard look but The MP20 MB checked every box and definitely haven't disappointed. If I could have looked at and hit the Sub70 irons it might have gone the other direction 🤷♂️

I have the 301 combo set (P to 8 in MB, 7 to 4 in CB) in the bag since the beginning of the year and I couldn't be happier. I've needed about a month to really "learn them", probably mostly the change from the project X I had before to the KBS tour (quite a change, really, but I'm happy I've done it, the tour suits my loading pattern better). As you point out, Dan, you lose distance on miss-hits particularly on longer irons, but hey, that's part and parcel of the "forged players' irons" type, however the feel on a crushed/flushed 4i is heavenly. The PW is more of a 10 iron but I love it this way... as I never really do anything round the greens with it.

Big question on these takomo though. Ordering a set of irons at x amount what other fee’s are on top off that to send them over to the uk. So for example I want the takomo 101s total with custom build 479 dollars so need to convert that into pounds and then what else gets added on? Shipping tax customs vat etc. would love to order but need to know the total price of everything so am not hit with hidden fee’s. If you have ordered them Dan what was the total extra on top? Thanks

Hey! The standard VAT rate appears to be 20%, and orders to the UK will be subject to approximately 2.5% import duty. Due to Brexit, we are unable to ship orders to the UK with these additional costs included.

Just a comment on buying online. I got some SmithWorks wedges and just had my set of irons checked (loft & lie). My new wedges were 3 degrees flat which isn't overly helpful when you are 191cm tall. Just wondering if you buy these Takomas, should you immediately have them checked? Does warranty cover any corrections?

At 50% off a normal set of irons, I’d suggest they were a must to consider for the average golfer.

Definitely going to gain some market share in this high price environment. I picked the 0211 PXG driver when they blew it out last fall, so there is value in direct to consumer market. Will be interesting to see what the future holds for Takoma. They could find a sweet spot among value conscious consumers and also go after people who purchase in the 2nd hand market.

Always worries me that buying direct saves you a couple of hundred ££ but without trying them and having a proper fitting they could be totally unsuitable and your your savings disappeared. So I prefer to pay the retail price and have a proper fitting. Good and fair review Dan

It always makes me laugh when I hear that a bladed iron is workable. Being able to fade, draw etc on demand, is not down to the iron, that’s down to the skill of the golfer.

It fades but did you want it to? 😂

I’d like to see a video where F2P was matched on a blade and GI iron. Would be interesting to see if there was any difference in side spin. I think it’s probably another golfing myth.

I don’t know. I played for a while with a blade 7i in my bag of peripheral weight irons and I could definitely get it to move more than the other clubs.
@fishblade2 Жыл бұрын
I agree! I also get a good laugh when they say they are workable when most golfers just want their shots to go straight 😂
@DeezzzzNutzzzz Жыл бұрын
Blades are far more workable and for say a game improvement iron. With a blade you sacrifice distance and forgiveness but you gain control and workability that's assuming you can strike the dime sized sweet spot consistently. Game improvement irons sacrifice workability and control to gain distance and forgiveness. Game improvement irons aren't as consistent and true player irons you can hit three 7 iron shots and they can vary between 10 and 15 yards where a blade will vary about 5 to 10 yards
