Ik this video is old but it’s extremely helpful. I suffered a concussion playing for my club team in the winter and now that I am getting back into my high school season, four months later, I’m not the same as I was before being concussed. So I have been relearning through these middle blocker videos.

Hey Coach Doony . Thanks for your efforts . Can you show us some ways to practice our timing when spiking as a middle blocker . since our setter is better at giving high tosses than giving short arced ones .

well done video. I will have to watch this a few dozen times to let it sink in properly. Do you already have a video that shows the proper way to run to your proper start position after blocking. My uncertainty makes me hesitate.

Does the distance from where you start your approach depend on your height? The instructor here is not as tall as the professional middles he showed in the clips, and their first step of the three step approach (with the left foot) is always in behind of the 3m line. I am asking because I am a rather tall middle who always finds himself too close to the net when trying this approach.
@AlphaeusNg2 жыл бұрын
i think so, a lot of the pro middle blocks start about 1 big step away from the 3m line and they usually end up only like about 2/5 across the attack line before the centre court line.

Donny, recently it has been pointed out to me that I"m goofy footed, that is, I do my approach using the reverse footwork (right, left-right). I'm trying to adjust, but after playing goofy footed for years, I find it very difficult to adjust. Any advice of how to best correct this?

What if they are setting you 2's? In 2's the ball is set in the same spot as 1's but the ball is set higher. How would you approach the ball?
@rhino16779 жыл бұрын
And it is set a little wider i think.
@killtuan9 жыл бұрын
+Nate A I think you should approach the same, just wait a little bit longer before you start your approach so the ball has time to come down

when performing a 1, when do you start the approach? i keep jumping too early or too late and it causes me to either miss the ball when swinging or contacting the ball near my wrist.

Coach I'm a middle hitter but i was an opposite before, so my coach is always yelling at me cuz he says i take to many steps and my timing is off....HELP
@deasttn7 жыл бұрын
Work on it. You don't need a ball a net, or a gym. You are probably getting too far off the net. Try: open, cross, then hop with your weight staying forward.
@kinnai83347 жыл бұрын
Lol it happens the same to me hahah. When I play opposite i open just a bit, i don´t take the steps straight nor open too much to the right. So when I play middle I always make my steps straight, perpendicular to the net and the timing is faster as the ball travels a smaller distance (so you have to make the steps earlier). Also speak to your setter, maybe he is setting it way too fast for you, so just ask him/her to set softer, and maybe higher. I'm saying this based on my perspective, this works for me but i'm not a coach so this isn't professional advice.

I am 17, 6'2/6'3 170lb's. Am I too small for MH? Im playing for my highschool, not club so its not as competitive. would i be better off being an outside hitter? I play MH fairly well but my team seems to struggle with our Outside hitters. we also have a 6'4 MH. Should i consider OH?
