Spolier: The guy wasn't killed by White Supremacists, he'd gotten recruited by terrorists and became an informant for the FBI. Eric's wife finds out he's working with the police, and fearing that they'll send him to Guantanamo, she calls her cousin Ben, who, unknown to her, was one of the terrorists. Ben intercepts Eric on the way to his police contact, and kills him while posing as a white supremacist. Ben is found guilty of murder, and after the trial the mosque that Ben, Eric, and Eric's wife had belonged to is attacked by arsonists.
