Another great video on to take our performance control to the next level! I'm using BandHelper right now and reviewing what it offers as I consider StageTraxx3 as you've documented so well. Apple-only is a concern for my groups for now, but we may pull the trigger as our expectations grow and we find current solutions looking less elegant that what you've so graciously shared with us already. Cheers!

Thanks Scott for your useful reviews!!! You have been a big fan of the Behringer X32 digital mixer, but with new competitors like the Yamaha DM3 at a similar price point, it would be great if you could review it. Having actual faders seems like a big pro.

I got this a few months primarily for MERGING (combiner) since most mergers were nearly the same price and this unit can do so much more! The software is simple but extremely powerful. I appreciate you showing some of the filtering, as I haven't used that yet. I do a "noisy" Yamaha YPT-400 (lots of MIDI chatter) and was hoping maybe to filter out some of the MIDI messages it sends (need to use MidiOX or similar to see what messages its sending). Another great review, I always learn something when I watch your excellent videos!!

I picked up two of these a couple months ago. I have one on my pedal board and one in my mixer rack. My pedalboard has an hxstomp with extra 2 button switch, a BTS500S-6, a dual channel direct box, the CME U6MIDI Pro, and a USB power supply. In my mixer rack, I hook up my XR18 and my laptop (for lights) to the CME U6MIDI Pro. Use a WIDI adapter on each of the CME US6MIDI PROs for the long haul connection. I also carry regular cables as a backup. I use BandHelper on an android tablet hooked up to my pedal board's U6 to send patch changes, light controls, XR18 changes, etc. These solved a big problem I was having trying to only use WIDI adapters and looping back from my tablet. It worked fine on everything but the XR18. The XR18 sends the same midi commands out when you move any fader, etc as it listens for to do the exact same thing.....so I got into a nasty loop twice setting up for a live gig when we first started using it. Using a true router/joiner/splitter solved the headaches. Definitely worth the purchase.

I’ll have to see if I can get it figured out haha. And if I WANT to do all of that. The corporate/wedding band it would be really nice to have my setup change the lighting. But with my 90s band, we pretty much just have “party lights” the whole time. The other band is the main one that can use all 3 (TB, ST3, lights), and that’s the one that plays the least. BUT it’s on my list for sure! Using this will be really helpful and will likely be the brains behind it

One other thing, if you plug the included USB to USB-C into a powered USB hub, which is attached to an ipad ... then when I enabled "advanced mode" in the software, you get an additional 3 USB IN(s) and 3 USB OUT(s) which you can also route, filter, merge alongside the 3 physical MIDI IN(s) and OUT(s) on the box.

I have found the USB connections only show up when using a good quality USB-C to USB-A cord, or a USB-C to USB-C. I've tried several that didn't work ... and actually those also caused the windows cme MIDI software to not connect either. So if you used the included cable (it's tiny) or a high quality cable, then it should work. I wonder if they made the included cord so short because of this. I just got it to show up on my ipad using a higher quality cord. The cheaper cord I had been using was causing the USB midi ports to not show on the ipad.

I think you've partially answered a question I have regards using Windows. If you use Mac, then you might not know about this. Unlike Macs, Windows gives exclusive use of a physical MIDI port to the first app that opens it. If you want to run 2 programs with input from the one MIDI port, you have to use a program such as loopmidi or loopbe to create virtual MIDI ports, and then a routing program such as midi-ox to copy the data from the physical port to the 2 virtual ports. My question is, with this U6MIDI can you split 1 MIDI in to 2 USB outs, such that on the Windows PC one program opens and reads USB-1 and the second program reads USB-2?
@sailorickm
@sailorickm 8 ай бұрын
@@ababababeebababa It occurs to me to ask if the cables that you call "low quality" are in fact simply "charging-only cables" that don't contain the "data" wires?
@sailorickm
@sailorickm 8 ай бұрын
To answer my own question, I received this info from CME Support: When you connect the U6MIDI Pro to your computer, from the single USB-C port you will get 3 virtual USB MIDI Port. You can use any one virtaul port for one music software exclusively on your Windows PC (not limite to physical port), so in total you can use 3 music softwares simultaneously. So what you understood below is correct: "On the Windows PC one program opens and reads USB-1 and the second program reads USB-2".

Hello Scott, always a pleasure to watch your vidoes thank you. I do have a question, switching gears on my solo show to tablet ONLY and want to control midi sends to my M9 or POD live, DMX lights while accomplishing audio out. That said, whats the best way to accomplish this as I'm new to trying this and am still a little confused on this. I have all my backing tracks done from a while ago and want to add the rest of these options. Finally, I've been using setlist maker for years, is there something better for the purposes I'm trying to accomplish? Thank you very much for your time and hopefully I can get to the stage that I want to be at.

Great video Scott! I am currently running a clock sync midi out from a Boss RC 505 MK2 into a Novation circuit track and then into an Arturia Microfreak. Currently, the RC 505 MK2 is transmitting the clock fine but it is also triggering loops when I don't want them to occur on the circuit track. I assume I would just filter everything other than the clock once I set it up with this midi interface? Thank you!!

Used the Processor with a Quantum 2626 and Quad Cortex and works just fine. Looked into the specs for the Focusrite and the GigBoard and both do not have pin 2 grounded (or did not specify specifically) where the processor expects ground or shield on pin 2 to send/receive midi. I did try other MIDI controllers/processors with the same results.

I’m new to MIDI and had a really dumb question.. can this be used to communicate with a DAW? I have an interface that’s a little older and doesn’t play well with Windows. All I really wanted to do is be able to send MIDI signals from a keyboard (Alesis Recital Pro with ONLY a USB A) to play sounds from my Akai Force (has MIDI inputs) which lines out into my monitors for the sound.. but eventually I wanted to use my DAW as a sound library that my Alesis Recital Pro could play. I noticed that my Korg DW8000 also sends MIDI signals in a type of feedback loop you also experience here.. I wanted to also use it simply as a soundbank and for synthesis. Can you help me sort out the best solution? Thank you.

Inquiry, I recently rebuilt a 2013 iMac (i7-4770,16gb, 256 Nvme SSD, GTX 750m that I got local for a whopping $50! Although in the process? I totally broke the tiny Bluetooth connection. Anyway, my interface has 5-dim midi in/out My Fractal FM3 MkII Turbo, well it's got multiple I/O My old Roland TD-6v V-Drums module that I'm using on my DIY A2E conversion drum kit only has 5-Dim midi in/out (optional thru) My old school 61 key Casio CTK-53I keyboard, that I mainly use as a controller... Also, has only 5-dim midi in/out. My question is this... What would be my best solution for using both the Casio keyboard & Roland V-Drum module merely as separate midi controllers within Reaper into VSTs like EZD3 and EZKeys? I'm thinking that the CME U6MIDI Pro just might do the trick. Gigging mobility is currently not an issue, as I'm currently not performing. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Oh, I also have an old Alesis Midi Trigger I/O laying around I'd like to use. It's only got USB midi & a single 5-dim midi out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@ScottUhlMusic I legitimately was just at that option just now. Ha! The price is a bit higher than I was wanting to spend, but the fact that it’s capable of 16 channels?! That’s huge! For my Roland V-Drum module tho? I may just go with a $19 CME U2MIDI Pro cable adapter for now.

Who presses all those buttons or is it automated? It’s cool to see what you’re doing but it’s way beyond my skill level. I have yet to get my UI16 on to Ethernet much less all the things you do. Thanks for your help on everything!

Hi Scott or anybody out there who may be able to help with my problem, I would be so appreciative for any help. I have a CME U6 Midi Pro that I am trying to use to merge the CC messages from 2 M-Vave Chocolate midi foot controllers. I am doing this to give me a total of 8 foot buttons to press, to send CC messages to a Boss RC5 Loop Station. Both controllers work find in isolation without the CME U6 Midi Pro, so I know there is no problem there. However, when connecting the 2 M-Vave foot controllers to the CME U6 Midi Pro, no midi messages (lights do not flicker at all on the U6) are reaching the Boss RC5. The 2 M-Vave controllers are connected to the CME U6 Midi Pro via TRS (1/4") to 5 pin midi cables, to inputs 1 and 2. The Boss RC5 is connected to output 1 via a 5 pin midi to mini trs (1/8") cable. I have configured the merge in UXMidi Tools app, but no joy. I thought I may have a defective CME U6 Midi Pro, so I returned it and got another, but still the same problem, so obviously there is something, that I am doing wrong. Again, any help would be fantastic, as I am tearing out what little hair I have left.

Thanks for responding Scott, appreciate it. After some more midi study, I discovered my problem was that I was using a couple of midi cables that had weird wiring (not type A or type B). Tried my Type A midi cables that came with my Launchpad Pro Mk3, and presto it worked. Knowledge is king. Thanks again Scott.

Why not connect the phone (StageTrax) wireless via the Widi Master? A single Widi Master can connect to more than one device (e.g., iPad and iPhone) ... with the caveat that those wireless devices cannot talk directly with each other

@@ScottUhlMusic This is the reply I got back from CME support; Hi Karl, Thanks for your email. I guess you talk about the U6MIDI Pro. It has 3 virtual USB ports, there is no port 4. In early UxMIDI Tools software version, there is a port 4 displayed on the router page with no function, it is reserved for future product. But if you already use the v3.9 UxMIDI Tools, it will detect the connected hardware and display corresponding ports which you only can see 3x USB ports and 3x MIDI ports for U6MIDI Pro. Please refer to attached screenshot. In the manual of U6MIDI Pro, we explain it as below: In different operating systems and versions, U6MIDI Pro may be displayed as a different class device name, such as "U6MIDI Pro" or "USB audio device", and the name will be followed by the port number 0/1/2 or 1/2/3, and the words IN/OUT.

This is frustrating. It's useless to me if I can't route signals back from my computer to the hub via usb. I can get midi time code from my beat buddy, through the hub and into reaper but for some reason signals can't flow the other way. I don't even have any filters on and I know the receive settings on the BB are good. I can't even get their support to understand my issue. @@ScottUhlMusic

The name of my KZbin channel is MIDI Synth Minds, not because I know a lot about MIDI, but rather because I want to learn about MIDI and become a master of MIDI. I have this device and it crashes the second I make any type of connection in the software.

I disabled all MIDI devices in FL Studio by removing the assigned channels? Right? In FL Studio they are channels and not ports, since they are able to go as high as 255? Does that sound about right? FL's approach to MIDI configuration seems very odd to me, probably because my knowledge of MIDI is still growing. Anyhow, I used this incredible device successfully by making the connections and bringing each device up one at a time. I swear! I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. That's the best way to learn MIDI, in my opinion. If you bring each device up one at a time it simplifies things greatly. Now I can really appreciate your videos, plus I am thoroughly impressed by your talent. You are an inspiration. Thanks!
