If you use a trs to 5 pin midi which cme sell separately most, 5pin midi out ports provide enough power to power the widi.

Regarding power, the rule is simple : if you connect the WIDI Uhost to a USB host (computer, some keyboards, ...) the WIDI will be a USB MIDI device and get power from the connected host (No need to connect an external power source). On the other hand, if you connect WIDI to a USB MIDI device (keyboard, USB MIDI controller, USB sound card, ...) the WIDI will be a USB MIDI host and will have to provide power to the connected device, then the USB C power input must be connected to a power source.

I have a casio px s3000. I want to use the software controller app that links to the piano to change settings and instruments. Normaly you have to connect a usb cable for it to work. Would this widi allow bluetooth connection to the controller app on my phone?

You always have to test it, but if your keyboard can receive midi information over usb, then yes this device should be what you are looking for 👍

Re Power from USB. The USB master ("host" usually the computer) always provides power, the USB Slave ("Device", anything that can be connected to a computer) *never* provides power, but is allowed to consume it. In fact with USB3, the ability of providing power is used to determine which site is the master.

Hello. I’m pleased to have purchased two sets of WIDI Masters. These two sets are pairing up nicely between hardware keyboards. I’m also using one set for playing keys on one of the hardware keyboards activating software instruments in GarageBand and another app on iOS. However, I also use Logic Pro on board iMac. I understand WIDI Master is not suitable yet for use with iMac. I endeavour to use hardware keyboards to record midi signals onto midi recordable tracks on logic pro combined with my iMac meaning I wish to record instrument sounds from the hardware keyboard(s) via midi instead of recording in audio where the sounds from the external hardware keyboard can be heard during playback. Following the recording in midi and playback, I’m aware the recorded data can be recreated in audio. Which cable and or device do I need to record from 5 pin din to USB and or is it possible to use WIDI Master in conjunction with another device? Thanks in advance.

You can use the WIDI master with a Mac or with another WIDI product 👍 it connects over Bluetooth to a Mac. And they pair automatically with each other if you use them standalone

Hmm, my goal is to at some point have my HX Stomp and Eventide H9 be able to be switched to whatever effect I want them to be switched to from an iPad. Seems like this won't work, but the other things might work in doing that.....except the 5 pin ones are rather big....and make take up a lot of space on a pedal board.

The 5 pin WIDI MASTER one really does not take up much room at all. Especially compared to a cable, which would take up more. It totally would work with your setup. Plug in a WIDI MASTER to the Hx Stomp and a WIDI MASTER to the Eventide, and use the ipad to send the different midi commands on different channels (channel 4 for stomp and 5 for eventide for example). That's how I do it with my stomp/Voicelive/SPDSX setup. It works great.

Hello I’m using a Marshall 6100LM 30th Anniversary series head. It has midi out and I’m trying to get my via my boss ES-5 to my line 6 HD500 to switch the channel’s on the Marshall , instead of using the foot switch but the Marshall isn’t responding.. Can you a vid on this . Or is it possible my Marshalls Midi system is to old for this new gear?

Scott, I watched one of your other videos and purchased a widi jack to send from stage traxx 3 on my ipad to my boss vocal pedal. I just picked up a wolf mix MK two and would basically like to do the same thing. I want to send Midi commands from Stage traxx on my iPad to the Wolf mix lighting controller to trigger scenes, but it has a USB A instead of the little five pin midi. Will this work for that or did I see in your video that you said you had problems having it go the other way? Or Is there an adapter that goes from the five pin midi connector from the regular widi jack to USB A or is there a different widi product I can use?

Any hints how to connect bluetooth midi with Ardour/Bitwig on Ubuntu (Linux)? I have tried with Yamana und CME Uhost WIDI dongles and Ubuntu finds them but does not connect on midi (not even Midi through or vitual midi sockets)

Are you using it just standalone (no iPad or computer)? Or are you connecting it to your DAW? You should only need 1 if you are using a DAW by connecting to it as if it was a Bluetooth device. But if you do just use 2 of them at once, yes they should auto find each other. It’s really cool!

How can I select 2 different INPUTs in MIDIberry so that it sends messages to 2 different ports? I want to use WIDI uHost (connected Yamaha YDS-120 saxophone) and DOREMIDI UTB-21 (Roland fp-30 digital piano) at the same time - I want to have everything on different ports and go to Kontakt 7. It would be useful to run two separate MIDIberries, but this is impossible. Any ideas how to solve this?

If MIDIBerry could be run as two separate single programs, it would solve my problem. Does anyone know another program that works like MIDIBerry?

@@ScottUhlMusic I managed to do it. I can connect two midibluetooth devices at the same time. The solution is the BLE-Midi Connect program from the Microsoft Store. It works just like MIDI-Berry - unfortunately it does not show messages, but it allows you to connect more MIDI Bluetooth devices at the same time.

Hi all, it was mentioned in this video that the Helix did not receive midi through the cme uhost. I have a Pod Go I’m just starting to attempt adding midi to. The Pod Go only has a USB interface. Can anyone confirm that the Line 6 Pod Go can receive midi using the cme uhost? Thanks in advance!!!!!

It’s designed to work with anything that is USB Midi. CME PRO also has the widi Jack and widi master for other midi inputs like 5 pin or TRS midi

Wireless MIDI does not output sound, it only wirelessly sends MIDI information. But not sound. You’ll need an actual wireless to do that, probably from your iPad, which I did a video on here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2HReauNnK5ki7c

That’s how to get audio out of the lightning port with the devices that do not have a headphone Jack. But MIDI itself does not transmit any sound. Just data 👍

No, not at all. The WIDI system connects over Bluetooth and sends midi commands. So as long as the device you are connecting to has MIDI, it will work. Just make sure you get the right one. This is USB midi. WIDI master for standard 5 pin midi, and WIDI Jack for other ones 👍

Yup, if would. They also have the Widi Bud which might be more what you need for that.

Anything that accepts a usb midi this should be able to send midi to. For the most part. Is it usb midi or 5pin midi?

If the EWI accepts midi over usb and then you plug in the UHost and then plug in the WIDI Master into your 5 pin sound module, they will connect. Midi over usb is tricky though so try it

6:50 Ah you should have tried and OTG adapter for portable devices. They let you charge off your phone etc. Give it a try and comment folks. Surely you have an OTG adapter laying around, it might do the trick.

I do have the OTG cable and it hasn’t worked for providing power. Only for some devices though

Why midi controllers manufacturers don't just find a solution to connect midi keyboards to the PC with Bluetooth similar to PC wireless keyboards?! I don't think it will be that complicated!

You did not cover using it with Windows. The problem with Windows is that "normal" DAWs and other programs use the standard Windows Midi Device API to connect top Midi devices, but the Windows (10 and 11) "Bluetoth Midi API" is a completely unrelated beast and only can be used with dedicated software adhering to same. Hence you need a rather complex setup. I recently posted this in the Reaper forum: If the PC / Laptop has built-in Bluetooth: I happened to find a video on how in Windows to connect a Bluetooth Midi device (here "Widi Master", but the same will hold for other Bluetooth Midi devices) to a DAW. This needs two free software products to be installed: MidiBerry and LoopMidi. -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWe5oopooaxof6M If the PC does not have Bluetooth or if you don't want to install that software, in fact with a (second) WidiHost, you also can just plug in same in the PC and it can be found as a Midi Device.
