Phenomenal footage! Thank you for sharing, especially for those that are desperately wanting to see how monumental the devastation has been but know we need to keep our distance for our safety and to let rescue workers do their job. Would love to see you take more footage over the coming days and weeks to see the change!

This video is amazing for it really shows how devastating things can become for only we can imagine it, but to see it first hand like this breaks your heart knowing so many have lost everything. This couldn't have happened at a worse time for these people for they are facing not only the virus but losing much more. Our Thoughts and Prayers goes out to each and everyone of them.

Being from Michigan and having lived in Midland - this is so heartbreaking. A complete community devastated, seeing the Tridge underwater and knowing friends who lost homes to this avoidable flood. The dams were built in the mid-1920s and should have been updated/fixed when suggested.

@@ColonelKlink100 It is ULTIMATELY the Governors fault because she should have SHUT that bridge down and taken the (So called) owners to court and forced them from a public safety stand point. That (IS) her job to use the State Attorney's general office to enforce safety codes for right of way's on public roads and damns that would effect the communities at large. No Mam this lays squarely at the Gov. Desk along with the Local county Commissioner.

You guys realize Whitmer has been on the job a little over a year. Kinda ridiculous to place all the blame on her. Not like the dams suddenly went bad in the last 18 months. No blame to all the previous governors who completely ignored this for years and years and years?

I graduated Midland High School in 1984. The joke in college (if you were from Midland) was that we could glow in the dark from the nuclear plant. Bechtel decided to build 2 huge concrete reactors in a swamp and wondered why they sank 16 feet into the ground. Almost bankrupted Consumers Power and raised energy rates for every customer in Michigan. A boondoggle of epic proportions. Now this. I guess you have to make extra effort and planning when you build something in a swamp. When I was in school, the big scare was dioxin in the water from Dow Chemical. Never thought that the TIT would wipe out the whole area. To all of my friends who still live there - STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY. We're praying for you.

Most of the roads shown are less then a year old including that huge reconstruction of M-20. If that washes out or proves structural damage the total loss between this, roads, homes and the dams will not be a manageable number. These losses have ripped my hometown apart and left my neighbors to figure how they get from A to B without this road or that road.. PLEASE, stay strong everyone!

This tragedy in Midland and that entire watershed are prime examples of ignoring the warnings issued by qualified engineers that older dams are in need of repair or should be breached in a controlled way. The National Dam Safety program has an extensive listing of “at-risk” dams and levees that should be addressed so that these tragic events are lessened. Funds need to be appropriated to fix these infrastructure problems.

Fantastic footage, spent many years in Gladwin, 17 years on Fire Department. Going to be a mess for fire & ambulance services to get around the flooded areas.
@jfabiano69584 жыл бұрын
Your footage is amazing. However, this could have been prevented. AG Nessel forbid them from lowering the water in order to protect the clams. Clams that would be safe anyways. Clams dig down up to several feet to make it through the winter and the drained or lowered basin water as the dam system was designed. The dam isn't a single component. The basin is just as critical as a component to the dam as the dam and dam spillway is. If you don't use (drain to make room for spring rain) the basin properly, that places undue pressure on the dam and spillway which are never designed to handle all the spring water capacity alone without the basin "absorbing" the vast majority of the spring water surge. NEVER FORGET

This makes me sick. I know all these places. I remember when the Tridge was being built. My family owned a Dawn Donut shop on Saginaw road next to The Executive House Motel and across from Camps cars from 1963-1977. What really tears me up is this could've been avoided if the dam had been maintained.

Great video! I like narration, even if it's sparse. Or captions. In disaster videos, you can't tell what you're looking at unless you're from there, and if you're from there, you're busy, not watching a video. Something like "the green item is the top of some playground equipment" or "the green item is where Martians landed to take over during the flood" would be informative.
@leedenke19004 жыл бұрын
Do you worry about running out of fuel while you are flying the drone? Thank you for the shots of the bridge from the side. You can see how the piers are lined up with the water direction, with the bridge set on it at an angle. At first I thought the bridge had shifted, but it's straight at the abutments (ends). I believe they put the piers (supports) in line with the current, which likely avoided more damage.

This will be another case study taught to civil engineers in future where the fundamentals of hydrogeology are spun out as being fake news on the tables of big business. It's also another classic case from the US (again) of why hollowing out regulations, in this case federal regulators, for the short term benefits of business are always very costly.
