Oh interesting! I went on the French design KTX to Busan in March. However, I've been on the 'own brand' KTX to Gangneung and I do remember the wireless mobile chargers. And 2:17 hours is very good end to end time - my journey was around 2:40. Great to see it all again! Amazingly, when visited Gyeongju in July 2022, those high rise blocks (16:30) didn't exist and the station was in open country. Many thanks for the vlog! 😊🇰🇷

Korean citizens or long-term residents can use the Naeilro Railroad Pass up to 8 times a year. The price of the Naeilro Railroad Pass is about $75 and allows you to ride the KTX a total of 2 times, once a day for 7 days. In addition to using the KTX, you can use seats on regular trains excluding the subway up to 2 times a day. Standing seats on regular trains can be used an unlimited number of times during 7 days. Therefore, it is a good idea for Korean travelers who plan to use the railroad a lot to use the KR Pass (Korea Railroad Pass) and for long-term residents in Korea to use the Naeilro Railroad Pass. Lastly, because the Naeilro Rail Pass is a product that has nothing to do with social welfare, long-term residents or Korean citizens do not need any additional conditions to use the Naeilro Rail Pass. However, compared to the KR Pass, it may be difficult to obtain seats on KTX or regular trains that operate on weekends with the Naeilro Rail Pass, so you must obtain a Naeilro Rail Pass and reserve seats on trains that operate on the weekend in advance from Monday to Thursday.

KTX is slightly inferior in technology to France's Alstom, Germany's Siemens, or Japan's Shinkansen. However, KTX is competitive in train prices and parts prices. Additionally, Korea developed the KTX-Haemoo, which can operate commercially at 400 km/h, and successfully operated it in some sections. However, KTX-Haemoo was not commercialized because track improvement was necessary to operate on the entire Seoul-Busan section.

So many high speed train videos miss one of most important aspects. The top speed of a train is less important than the overall trip time. High speed trains spend little time travelling at their maximum service speed. Depending on the route, number of stops and availability of dedicated high speed lines.
@hazelnut37942 ай бұрын
The design speed is about 350km/maximum operating speed of 310-320km, but as a result, the average KTX time from Seoul to Busan, which is about straight distance 400km away, is 2 hours and 30 to 40 mins, yup. Based on the Gyeongbu high-speed rail line, the condition of the high-speed line is sufficiently great in worldwide too, but because of geographic and many social variables with a lack of track capacity, actually, it is becoming an other ITX that can operate faster than ITX
@DJAYPAZ2 ай бұрын
@@hazelnut3794 Thanks for your reply. Many things affect both the peak and average speed of high speed trains running a passenger service. The number of stops for instance is sometime forgotten when citing a trains performance. You’ve pointed out a number of these already. Average speed achieved on a particular service is a good indicator of overall performance. There are quite marked differences in the acceleration profiles between train set that employ distributed drive and those that use a more traditional drive car.

The KTX eum can operate on both high-speed rail lines and general railway tracks, but is a train developed to operate on general railway lines. KTX eum can reach speeds of up to 260 km/h on general railway lines, but for this to happen, the general railway lines and railway signaling system must be slightly improved. KTX Cheongryong is a train that mainly runs on high-speed rail lines and can reach speeds of up to 320 km/h. Considering the cost of track improvement, it was not commercialized due to lack of economic feasibility, but there is also a KTX Haemoo that has been developed and can be operated commercially at 420 km/h. To add, in Korea, both regular railways and high-speed railway lines are standard gauge.

*google translate As a citizen of Korea, I would like to thank you for using Korea’s high-speed rail service. However, I am writing a comment because I have something to tell you about regional classification. Gwangmyeong City, where 'Gwangmyeong Station' is located, is not included in Seoul in terms of administrative districts. Of course, you may misunderstand because the cities are connected. The word 'Hoseo' is a word used to distinguish traditional regions in Korea, including most of 'Chungcheong-do', but it is not the name of an administrative district, so when writing station guide subtitles, use the word 'Hoseo'. Rather, it should be used as ‘Chungcheongnam-do’ or ‘Chungcheongbuk-do’, which was used when introducing Osong Station. And when using 'metropolitan cities' such as Busan and Daegu in Korea, the word 'Yeongnam' is used before 'South Korea' because these metropolitan cities are not cities belonging to 'Do, Province' in Korea's administrative districts. It must be used alone. Of course, the word 'Yeongnam', like 'Hoseo', is not appropriate because it is a term used to distinguish traditional regions and does not refer to an administrative district. When introducing 'Gyeongju Station', the name 'North Gyeonsan' also appears. If 'North Gyeonsang' is correct and the most appropriate way to write it, it is best to write it as 'Gyeongsangbuk-do'. (Official from the administrative office) There is a separate city named 'Gyeonsan' next to Daegu. As a citizen who loves Korean railways, I feel sorry for running up to this video like a dog drooling and writing such a long comment. However, as a citizen of a country, I wanted the regional subtitles to be written accurately, so I hope there is no misunderstanding. I hope you have a nice trip to Korea.

Many people say Japanese high speed trains are better, but have u seen the ticket price? I wouldn't pay for that for less than 3 hours trip... At least two or three times more expensive than Korean ones.. Plus, Japanese trains stations are like a maze. Good luck for being on time... U will have no idea where u are...
All three major East Asian systems have their perks & drawbacks. Japan’s is extremely frequent & convenient along with incredible etiquette of their patrons & staff; however, they’re expensive. Korea’s is affordable & expansive but most of their trains are local & stop a lot. This makes most journeys between two major cities longer than if they connected directly but it also means that smaller cities get the benefit of HSR & being connected to the national high speed network. China’s is incredibly expansive, fast, & offers good point to point connections. However, I find their stations to be far too bloated, almost airport terminal esque, boarding procedure is very antiquated if not airline esque, station locations are far from historic city centres because of their size necessitating long transfer rides on local metros.

The ticket price per distance for China's high-speed rail is about half that of Korea's high-speed rail. In China, land is owned by the state and labor costs are cheaper than in Korea, so construction costs were lower. Therefore, the ticket price of Japan's Shinkansen = 2 × KTX (Korea High-Speed Rail) = 4 × CRH (Chinese High-Speed Rail). However, considering per capita GDP, Korea's KTX has the cheapest ticket price relative to an individual's income.
