I definitely want to spend some learning this tune. I find the on screen tabs for tunes are the best way for me to learn as I can slow each part down & gradually learn it. I’ll gain a lot from this. Been working this song for about a month now. I have made strides and can play the piece from start to finish with 2 rough sections around measure 58... and then the faster run at measure 77.... On my best day I can hit about 75% of original tempo. I have always struggle with speed. not sure if you have and tips to gain speed? I guess I need to commit to practicing at tempos where I can follow along in my head and push faster if needed without error as opposed to pushing my redline all the time. Going to start looking at Chitlins con carne next... need to take a break and mix it up. Thanks again

Fantastic tutorial! I've been trying to learn this on my Ibanez AG75G with a Fender Mustang LT25. I've been trying to tweak my amplifier to sound closer to what yours sounds like, but I'm really struggling. My amp is more of a beginner amp so I know it won't sound exactly like it should. Would you have any advice on presets or ways to customize my amp to be better suited for this piece/jazz in general? Cheers!

@@SteveDownExeterGuitarLessons Thanks for the comment!! I have increased the middles and bass, as well as reduced the treble. It still sounds a bit off. I don't know how much of it is down to the guitar/amp and how much of it is down to the setup. I know it won't sound identical, but it would be nice to still have a jazzy sound.

Nice! I like playing the melody down in 1st-ish position, w/ the first note on the 4th string. Sounds more like Kenny's version I think. Also, I believe it's an Ab major triad (Fmi7 upper structure) on the anticipation of measure 15 - I can hear that Eb at the bottom of the chord. Folks should check out your other video, "How to easily use the altered scale," good work there too.

This helps a lot. Thank you. But are you sure you are getting all of the chords right? The first one in the B section does not sound jazzy and spicy to me, but like the mother of terrible dissonances - at least if I follow your chord symbols and play all the respective notes (which you don´t on the guitar). You are suggesting a chord there in which G (root of G minor, ideally provided by a bass player) clashes with an Eb in the melody, a Db in the harmony, and an F somewhere in between. That does not sound like an enhanced and alterated G Minor chord to me at all; the Eb sticks out like a sore thumb there. Wouldn´t it at least make much more sense to call it an Eb9 (Eb - G - Bb - Db - F)? That way the bass player could go down from G (the previous G minor) to Eb, which would nicely contrast with the ascending melody at that point.

Hi Steve, really good lesson and playing! This piece is weird one. It sounds as though the bassist isn't really sure of what they should be playing. They play two bars of D-flat in bars 13 -14 the first time through the head and play some different changes under the solo. It sounds cool until they lose the form and add an extra 8 bars. Once Kenny starts playing chords in his solo it gets together again. Now time the chord changes are the chords that go with head. Maybe Kenny wanted the head changes all through the solo? I guess we'll never know. I hear the bass playing root and natural 5th in bar 9 so I would name that G7alt rather than Gm7b5. Great track!
