Retailers Make Very Little Selling Gas Generally, the markup (or “margin”) on a gallon of gas is about15 cents per gallon(gross profit before expenses). Factoring in expenses, which include rent, utilities, freight, labor and credit card fees, a retailer is left with about 2 cents per gallon in profit. I think the current trend of most boats 45' and under going with outboards has an adverse effect on ride. Notice how many boats coming thru the inlet have their props loose contact with the water and over rev. I/O's had their lower units lower in the water as well as distributing their engine wait towards the bow. I think the outboards are unable to get the proper bite in the water which negatively affects trim angle. Just a thought not based on science.

Honestly if they would slow down about three mph and keep them in the water I think the motors would bite just fine.

Sail boat owners have known about this for a long time. An inboard with a prop shaft will always (unless capsized) be in the right place.
