Midnight Oil - Blackfella/Whitefella / The Dead Heart (Blackfella/Whitefella / 1986)

Midnight Oil perform 'Blackfella/Whitefella' and 'The Dead Heart', live with Warumpi Band on the Blackfella/Whitefella tour in 1986. Both songs originally featured on the albums 'Big Name, No Blankets' and 'Diesel and Dust' respectively.
In 1986, Midnight Oil was invited to tour central Australian Aboriginal settlements with the legendary Aboriginal group Warumpi Band. They staged concerts, talked with tribal elders and saw European occupation through the eyes of its original inhabitants. This became known as the Blackfella/Whitefella tour. This tour became the creative catalyst for the writing and recording of Midnight Oil’s 'Diesel and Dust' album. Blackfella/Whitefella is the documentation of those experiences featuring the music of Midnight Oil and Warumpi Band along with the videos for 'The Dead Heart' and 'Beds Are Burning' from 'Diesel and Dust'.

Probably the best Rock liberation band to come on the scene ,they were saying very bold things when most wouldn't dare ,bands like the Specials, Special Aka, The Selector,The Clash and a few other said stuff that Rock radio wouldn't play I salute all these liberation bands ..

I saw them in 2002...at Bogarts in Cincy... I feel so Blessed and Honored...to have all of their Autographs on my...Capricornia Album... Both are great songs. Different messages, yet also the same message. Also, this live transition between Gordon Butcher and Rob Hirst shows just how impactful Rob is for the Oils. Gordon is a great drummer, but Rob's energy just elevates the music to another level.
