I've started wondering if Kirk's character was actually Satan, leading his family down a sinful, selfish path in the guise of celebrating Christmas like a bunch of materialistic shitmarks.
@SabbyNeko8 жыл бұрын
...that's... actually kind of awesome.
@Gyrogia8 жыл бұрын
Think about it: at the start, Christian White (ugh) was concerned that the money they were using on their extravagant Christmas celebration could be better used improving the lives of the impoverished and destitute. Kirk then changes his mind by throwing up a smokescreen of false faith, claiming that it is better to praise Jesus than work in his name. He provides backwards, insane logic to justify the use of pagan imagery in modern Christmas celebrations. He praises materialism by claiming that selfishness and consumerism are what the Christian god desires of his worshipers. And he does all of this and more while portraying himself as a devout and pious man who wants simply to renew the faith of his family. The greatest lie the devil ever told, man.

In the Judaic context, Jesus is technically of the Bloodline of Adam, through his son, Seth, and since he remained chaste his entire life, he is technically "The Last Adam". Still doesn't forgive the "tree = cross" bullshit, but I'll admit the connection isn't totally unfounded.

My theory, as I understand the Big Bang Theory, is that speck was an anomaly, a black hole that was so dense that time stopped and had no other place to go but backwards, creating an explosion. Black holes are caused by collapsing dying stars that cave in on themselves, creating a singularity; everything in nothing. Around a black hole, because of the intense gravity, time moves at a faster rate (look it up, it's true. I'm simplifying) as opposed to say, here, on Earth. If a singularity were to grow so large as to encompass all things into one nothing, one teeny tiny nothing, time would move so fast as to stop completely and go in reverse. My theory is the singularity started as a totally different universe that eventually died and became the speck, only to be recycled and reborn when the speck got to dense. The laws of physics don't always apply to places where everything is contained in nothing. This is my theory, but I'm no physicist. I just think in pictures.
@MorrisseyMuse8 жыл бұрын
An interesting theory and the 'big bang was a black hole' is an actual theory. The only thing I'll say is you can't go back in time as current physics won't allow it (Arrow of Time and all that lol) Perhaps a massive black hole created the universe in the form of a mass ejection of matter that does happen with black holes? we may never know sadly for sure.

Odd little point. Jesus wouldn't actually have been nailed to a cross of wood, not if the Romans killed him. The practice of using a cross didn't come into practice until around 200CE having been adapted from far eastern practices. Prior to that the common method of Roman crucifixion was to nail people to a vertical shaft or impale their hands on a lance and hang them from that.

I never understand this whole 'Religion sucks, but Christianity at least has a good message'. It doesn't. The things that are 'good' about it are such a small part of it, and they're all twisted up in this incomprehensible mess of Bronze Age morality and anecdotes. The only reason people think Christianity is about a cool dude teaching us to get along is those are the only values and lessons that have survived the test of time. Good people throughout the generations have gradually discarded 99% of Christianity and just keep the most basic of human lessons it had to offer, minus whatever nonfunctional context they may have had in the past. We're social animals. We evolved in tribes. It's ingrained in us to get along with fellow humans. If you really think these things are taught in the Bible, go and read it. You won't find a whole lot of good, functional moral lessons. Christianity is not a bunch of moral lessons told in a strange way that is misinterpreted for personal gain and power. It's just not. Apologies for rant, I just see so many Atheists and progressive Christians say this. It's a cognitive dissonance I just can't get my head around.
@ManOutofTime9138 жыл бұрын
Depends on the Christians, really. All but the most fanatical pick and choose the parts of the Bible that work for them and just kind of ignore the rest. Except for what everybody ignores. That's what the Apocrypha is for! So, it really just depends on who is preaching. I'm from a double-Christian family of half Catholics and half Protestants and on both sides, when they're not blasting homosexuals, they are genuinely some of the nicest people I've ever met.

I can't waste my time explaining how bad the things you say at about 28:00 min are, but trust me you have dropped significantly in my perception of what you understand about the world around you. Just one I guess, science does not say all things came from a speck; look up modern cosmological models of eternal universes that explain space-time inflation and prediction of the multiverse, as a layperson read Stephen Hawkings book "The Grand Design", it is a way to explain this clearly to a layperson, look up lectures on superstring theory (M-theory) for more in depth knowledge, and lastly go to college for physics and in about 10 years you will understand as well as is possible to do. Matter cannot be created or destroyed science says, there you are referring to the first law of thermodynamics, and that is only applicable to our universe, it says nothing about the properties of what brought our universe into being.
