I saw Doug Walker's review and he said 'Red Flower' is the term used in the book. It's one of the few nods to the book.

+Agent57000DM They used that term in the 1967 film too, though, so I'm not even sure if that would be an intentional reference to the book.

With all these "dark" live-action Disney-remakes coming out.. where the hell is Hunchback of Notre-Dame? It's the only one who feels like it needs it and the German musical has already done all the work as far as plot, script and music is concerned.

lopenash: The German version is called "Disney's Der Glöckner von Notre Dame". The re-Englishified version is just called "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", but a cast recording was released not long ago with the subtitle "A New Musical based on the Victor Hugo Novel and songs from the Disney film". I think you can find it on Spotify (but I don't use that) and the CD is on Amazon.

One of my biggest problems with Disney trying to do dark remakes (and sometimes it seems appropriate considering that books like The Jungle Book and even Bambi were a lot more dark and complex than Disney's movies) is that they can never go dark _enough_. They try for dark still but want to have their kids movie, (understandably due to that being their general audience) so they can't really have it be _that_ much more mature. They also tend to make these remakes pretty "surface-level dark", so it's not like the story or characters will actually be changed much, the mood will just be bleaker and there will be more violence.
@RiverOfWetness468
@RiverOfWetness468 8 жыл бұрын
+Master Markus Not sure if I'm gonna feel the same way about this movie, but I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head with the problem in general.
@mastermarkus5307
@mastermarkus5307 8 жыл бұрын
RiverOfWetness468 Yeah, I haven't seen the movie, and I've seen more positive reviews, so I'm going to decide for myself if this falls into that category like Maleficent and the other "dark Disney remakes".
@mastermarkus5307
@mastermarkus5307 8 жыл бұрын
Funny MaNn Usually those movies just end up being kind of dull and unmemorable, which isn't outright "bad" but ultimately makes a remake seem pointless or like a waste.
@mastermarkus5307
@mastermarkus5307 8 жыл бұрын
Funny MaNn Which movie are you talking about? I haven't seen the Jungle Book, so I've not yet judged it like this. Also, dark remakes _can_ work, but they work better if the audience you're aiming for is adults rather than children - like the Batman movie.
@RiverOfWetness468
@RiverOfWetness468 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was talking about TJB. And there is this constant pattern of movie remakes and reeboots purporting themselves as dark, but really only in the sense that they're visually darker and more violent, not in that they explore mature themes that the originals didn't touch on.

I haven't seen this movie, but I did get to see a clip of it in a VR. I'm sure in the clip was in Mowgli's place, cause who else would the animals took too. It was in an old temple. King Louie was talking behind me. It was my first VR experience so I was in awe of how everything looked. It looked very good. My brother (who checked out the VR clip before me, told me to look behind me), I could hear him through the headset. So I looked behind me and I kinda fell/crawled onto the floor from the couch I was on. King Louie was MASSIVE! He was probably King Kong size! So I was scared by the size of him. I even crawled back from him as he keep talking. My family was laughing at me, I could hear it under Louie talking. I think I kinda laughed cause my family was laughing, but I was still scared at how massive King Louie was. An orangutan that massive is probably in a monster category somewhere.

Christopher Walken voicing a giant monkey and singing on top of that made the movie worth the price of admission. And I also thought that, unlike Cinderella, there was enough change in this one to make it feel like it wasn't a shot-for-shot remake of the cartoon version. A necessary movie? No. But I don't regret seeing it. My biggest problem was that if he could talk to all the animals in the jungle, then why couldn't he try politely asking the bees for some honey instead of getting stung? And on top of that, why in the FUCK didn't Nicolas Cage voice at least one of the bees?!?!?!?!!!!

We hope my sister will go see the Jungle Book sooner after she needs rest. They used those songs from the Jungle Book original movie in a live action Jungle Book movie. Baloo was singing the Bare Necessities song and King Louie was singing I wanna be like you song. Shere Khan the tiger killed one of the wolves.

Man the book version of the BFG is FUCKING DARK. The reason he's called the "Big Friendly Giant" is the other giants aren't so friendly, ie THEY EAT CHILDREN. A major plot point is that everynight the other giants travel the world (I guess they use super speed or something, cuz no one notices them), reach into peoples bedrooms while they sleep, and eat them. One even makes a joke that "I'm going to Baghdad to bag dad, and mom, and all the little kiddies". FUCKING DARK.

I'm of two minds about the Fantastic Beasts trailer. On the one hand, I've always wanted to see what America was like in the Harry Potter world. Great point about the voice actors. I wish they had gone for unknown actors. Idris Elba, Bill Murray, and Scarlett were too recognizable. I agree that the voices weren't always the best, they just didn't always gel with the characters for me. I get that the majority if the film is just kind of a lateral move, following the beats of the original 1967 film. However, when saying that I feel like people don't acknowledge that the ending of the live action is completely different from the animated film and actually changes the entire message of the story. So, I think that this new version was "necessary" in that sense.

I really am curious. The people who liked this movie seem to LOVE it. But then I'm seeing these reviews from Doug and Brad here, and the things they bring up sound pretty damning. The one I'm most interested about though, and I'd like it if I could hear form you guys, but what does this new film have that say, the original didn't? I haven't seen it for myself, but what would be your reasons besides the advanced technology to check this one out instead of the classic?
@Sdcchistorian
@Sdcchistorian 8 жыл бұрын
+Mayeur000Donz Doug's review was so incredibly bad as he tried to point out things that the movie clearly explains but he either didn't get it or wasn't paying attention. As for what the new movie has to say? It totally makes Mowgli into more of a protagonist hero. It has way more to do with family and home than the original. It's also about how technology can be good in the right hands and bad in the wrong hands. It's a tighter film theme and story wise and gives all it's characters actual arcs.

I watched it today. I enjoyed it. Im sorry. I wish I had better taste in movies. I especially liked Shere Khan, was very scary. I didn't realise Idris Elba was Shere Khan until after the movie. I thought Bill Murray was funny as Baloo.

+fahd If you like movie doesn't really have bad taste it means you like something different. Everyone doesn't have to dislike the move or think they have bad taste because a critic says it's bad or rely on your own opinion. So you like jem hologram fine, that is your taste you found something you liked stick with it.

I'm really annoyed that for these movies they don't get real VOICE actors. Some real time actors can pull of voice acting, but most of the time they just fail. They should get people like grey deslisle for the part of the snake or something like that. You cannot tell me that would not be awesome.

+Iftekhar Ahmed I don't think it's very likely that a big cast of regular actors doing voice acting can do as good a job as a cast of actual (and good) voice actors. Specialisation does improve performance.

Did you see the same movie as the rest of the audience? And look, if you didn't think it was good (or bad, or whatever) more power to you, that is your opinion. But the story shares the most bare bones basics with Disney's classic animated movie, its 1990s live action one (starring Jason Scott Lee and directed by Stephen Sommers), and shares a few ideas with the Saabu movies from much earlier and that is- Mowgli lives in the jungle, Shere Khan wants him, and now he must leave the jungle and go to a human town. What is that again? Oh right, two (or three) of the short stories recombined- just like (almost) every other filmed version of this story. This brings in a lot of things never before seen on film (his "tricks", for one example) and repurposes a lot of scenes in new ways (yes Baloo is in it, but his context here versus the animated one is wildly different). So, to state that this is simply "Disney's animated movie, only live action" is so insultingly wrong (as in 100% factually inaccurate), it makes your opinion of the movie impossible to take seriously, as you clearly had no idea what you were actually watching. I hate to say this, as Brad, you are one of my favorite all time video producers, but your obvious lack of knowing what you are taking about with this movie is just sad, disheartening, and paints your opinion as being invalid- not because I don't agree with it- but because you don't actual know what the movie was about, and thus are not fit to judge it one way or the other.
