Lol the part where Edward starts comparing Bella to classic novel heroines like Jane Eyre or Scout Finch had me going "okay stfu Stephenie Meyer, you did not write the modern era Jane Eyre. I've been in Bella's brain. It ain't that deep." Also classically Abby--You mean Ad Lady?

I almost liked Midnight Sun better than Twilight because there is not a single moment during Midnight Sun where I wasn’t creeped out or annoyed, and that’s how it should be. Edward reads like Joe from You with how he rationalizes being a judgmental creep, and Stephenie Meyer has no idea that side characters don’t actually think like side characters? The mind reading was what pushed this book into parody territory for me because it was so ridiculous. Also, she retconned Bella’s entire personality, because she’s almost likeable in Midnight Sun, but when you’re in her thoughts it’s obvious that she’s a judgmental douche.

*Pours coffee and sees title* Finally! This is the quality content I signed up for. "Edward hates women, specifically women that are ambitious, that think for themselves, and care about their appearance." Huh... no wonder he married Bella. No ambition, couldn't think for herself, and doesn't care for makeup. This book just sounds like a hot mess.

I BARELY could make it through this book. I really liked the family dynamic between the cullens and learning more about them than we did in twilight but all edwards interactions with Bella were just annoying for me and Edward kept repeating himself and idk it just drove me nuts lol
@PevemoiDC3 жыл бұрын
I really liked the family dynamic too, they can be so wholesome. I actually skipped over paragraphs when I saw it was just bella stuff. Rereading the family stuff though I got disappointed, because it seems as though all anyone thinks about is either themselves or Edward. I really wish the author added something like what Carlisle or Esme was thinking about Rosalie (also my favorite character since Twilight originally came out, lol) at the family meeting, were they also worried for her, why is Edward treated like the favorite child, is Carlisle super proud of his other children? It just feels lacking when I look back. I think if she removed all the bella stuff that everyone knows from the first series and just filled this spaces with that stuff, it would've a really interesting story, not a romance really though anymore so could be why that didn't happen.
@thelonelyrose93144 жыл бұрын
You see i was interested for the 1/3 of the book because the vampire perspective but the treatment of Rosalie in this book puts me off so much. I think writers need to be more careful about how they treat survivors in books because how Rosalie’s storyline was handled was problematic

The Book Pusher yeah I hate how certain authors can’t apply empathy and a basic knowledge of these issues in their novels. It’s awful how their depicted as the bitchy, shallow, vapid characters that no one likes and when you try to explain to individuals about how it’s problematic to disrespect and invalidate these characters feelings they come back with trauma doesn’t excuse poor behavior (and yet they have no problem doing that with make characters)

Thank you for this. I quit early on. I know that Stephenie isn't great at writing, but I just couldn't handle this. It was making me so angry! The final straw was something like, Edward noted that he moved his chin one inch closer to Bella and then she "snorted delicately." When I tell you I SLAMMED the book shut! Her overuse of adjectives ending in "ly" and everyone constantly sighing was one thing. SNORTED DELICATELY? Who moves their chin one inch closer to something? What!? I'm out. Sorry, Steph...

About the thinking in full sentences thing. There are studies that show that people think differently like some people have internal monologues in full sentences while some people don’t even have internal monologues at all. It’s hard to believe that a whole town would think in full sentences but yeah I just thought that was something interesting. Also I just wanted to say really like you content and have been binging it for the past day or so.

From the few videos I've watched on Midnight Sun/the passages or quotes I've read, Edward constantly blaming Bella for existing is victim blaming and should not have been included. Meyer probably edited this book this year once she was finished writing it, and should have realized that victim blaming doesn't hold up in today's society. I just don't understand how an editor looked at that and was like, "He's blaming a girl for being alive and tempting him even though she doesn't know she's tempting him? That's sooo dark and mysterious, let's keep it!"

It would have been interesting if we could have seen the first book from Rosalie's or Jasper's POV. Rosalie because she's awesome and Jasper because he's newer to being a vampire. (That assumes that SM could write well.)

I agree. There are a lot of things I liked, and about as many that I didn’t. So many things about the characters are problematic, but part of my enjoyment was definitely nostalgia. And also feeling like Bella was upgraded to a two dimensional character, instead of the one dimension that we see from her narrative. In addition to actually seeing more of everyone’s powers/gifts in action. That was cool.

What bothered me most about midnight sun is basically how un-canon it was. Did SM not go back to reference her own books? For ex. Edward actually already deciding to leave Bella since the incident with James (not since the incident with jasper) and also Edward and Alice knowing (through Alice’s visions) how horrible and depressed Bella would be if they left her (even though in twilight/NM/Eclipse we’re told over and over again that they didn’t realize it would be that bad for Bella and that Edward was shocked to hear the extent of Bella’s depressions through Charlie and Jacob and the tribe’s memories and if he knew he wouldn’t have left. So SM disregards all this and tells us Edward knew and still decided to fuck her up anyway?)
@mohannadessa69634 жыл бұрын
Basically I am disregarding midnight sun because it honestly barely adds anything to the twilight series. So much lost potential. We could have learned so much more BACKSTORY and THOUGHTS and PERSPECTIVES through Edwards mind reading of everyone around him but yet we are presented with an even creepier misogynistic pile of ludicrous than the original twilight was

@anahirocha87884 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Edward is kind of -not to say very- fucked up. To be honest I try to get why he's like that. I mean He was born 1901, so I suppose that could be an explanation why he is so misogynist and his psychopathic behavior cuz He is a Vampire. I've read somewhere that they are more explosive, more revengeful and passionate, so it's quite understandable why he is so obsessive. But not because everything I pointed means that he was a good person or his actions are justified; definitely not. He has some serious issues. In my opinion the only reasonable end Twilight should've had was with Bella's murdered because I mean... that would be what vampires would do , but Edward and some character believed in him and compare him to Carlisle (cuz his control) but we can see that Edward definitely has not the same control as Carlisle so... Bella's death was more realistic lol. He did everything wrong. From the beginning he knew he didn't want to turn Bella but also didn't want to kill her. But he came back so it's like WTF MEN get your priorities in order and decide. He was super selfish and tried to justify his actions with "I have always been alone and maybe I deserve some happiness " and yes we can get it: you have suffered you hate your second life (not like other characters like Rose, her story was beyond sad and was held with so little empathy)but the way he acted was just harmful, selfish and well he was a psycho. And also he felt that he could decide on Bella's choices (turning her into a vamp) because his morality... I mean Bella's decision seemed unimportant to him. To be fair the only reason (if there is a reason) Edawrd "felt" in love cuz he couldn't read Bella's mind and for him it was a mystery and thought she was like super different (which make me wonder if he really could read minds because it's pretty obvious he thinks all humans kind is the same way and have the same thoughts) and we all know that bella's mind wasn't the deepest one tho Meyer wanted to make us think the opposite, comparing Bella with classic female novel heroes. Also I think he got obsessed (because his behavior it's more like obsession than falling in love) because He thinks he's a monster and being Bella's protector ( a human. His nature prey) could remedy his past actions and Vampire nature. Both of them ended up being extremely dependent (I mean they try to committed suicide because they thought the other one was death/left. Some Romeo and Juliet thing...) And Bella... well there's not much to say. Yes she was caring and that but her thoughts wasn't really interesting and from the first moment she felt for Edward; like girl you don't even know him. And yes okay Vampire in SM saga are extremely beautiful and all their physical appearance (smell, face, body, voice) are attractive to humans like some animals use their colors, light, etc to attract other animals BUT YOU DON'T FEEL IN LOVE GIRL WHAT'S WRONG .You simply don't obsesse with whoever person you find attractive. She doesn't measure danger, she doesn't give a damn about death but that's way more difference that seeking to die (which is what she did in NM). Her whole world orbited around the Cullens, which it's not healthy at all. She forgives Edward for everything and find not normal things (like Edward watching her sleeps) acceptable just because his a Vampire. For me the only reason She felt in love is because her life was not interesting and plain so becoming a Vampire or dating Edward would have brought her some adrenaline or excitement to her life. It's sad because now I think she could have been a powerful character and independent. Well that's my extremely extend explanation but of course I could be completely wrong and misunderstood everything. But something we all can agree is that Bella and Edward's romance/relationship was hella toxic in all the ways possible and there's no explanation why they felt for each other.

I have been a fan since I was in high school when they came out, now I am a 27 year old mom of two and I’m still in love with them. I frequently re-listen to them on audible since I am too busy to sit down and read them. That being said I could not wait to read this book and it did not disappoint me at all. I loved every page of being in Edwards head and I personally don’t see how he is “misogynistic” Also, Jessica is a complete bitch. She literally disliked Bella from the beginning and only pretended to be her friend. I loved being able to find out what Edward was doing when he wasn’t with Bella and all the background we got on him and the rest of the Cullen’s. People are just reading too much into the story and trying to pick at it too much, like idk, just enjoy it. It doesn’t make sense that Rosalie is so mad at Edward for falling in love with Bella. She literally fell in love with a human and had him changed for her. Uhm I absolutely do not disagree with you about the whole Angela Ben scene...that was weird. It was awesome seeing the scene where they had the car jacking scene while racing to save Bella and then the scene where Alice is trying to go through how to cover it all up. But wtf, can we talk about how fucking Carlisle drugged that lady and left her on the side of the highway...
