The Doom Slayer can die, but everytime he dies his soul and memories are sent back in time and space to a previous version of himself, making him effectively immortal. The demon priests figured that out somehow and imprisoned him in a cursed sarcophagus.

I wonder how the demon priest could have found that out though I guess if they worked with the Khan maykr then maybe they would have an understanding of the effects that mechiene had on the doom guy when that hooded maykr put him in it like strength, speed and what ludonauta is saying in his comment about the doomslayer soul being sent back in time and space. that really is a pretty cool idea on it this is why I like reading through the comments on doom videos a lot of people have really good ideas on how the universe works though again what he said it sounds like that would be true it I mean it does kinda make sense lol .

I always assumed that the gameplay mechanics actually were a clue to his immortal nature. Everytime he dies he resets to a very recent point in time retaining all of his memories so the demons have killed him trillions of times, but they don't know that because he remains in a temporal loop until he succeeds. So the divinity machine gave him strength, speed, endurance, and infinite temporal looping until he succeeds such that success is always gureenteed. This doesn't explain the eons of slumber mind you.. but.. its the best I have for reconciling lore vs gameplay mechanics. But hey that's just a theory, a game theory!

Has id actually weighed in on the ending of Ep 1 at any point? I'm pretty sure Romero at some point said he dies there, and the text definitely implies it. It wouldn't use the word "end" if it wasn't. Whatever the official canon is now, it definitely seems like the original team at the time was going that way, that he died to get to hell. I don't really care one way or another, but I find the death interpretation cooler. It adds to his legend if you ask me.

This question actually made me look back on a bunch of small things in Doom Eternal. During slayer’s time in Hell, he and all other humans probably wouldn’t die of natural human forces (hunger, dehydration, or sleep deprivation) in order to prevent them from dying in Hell to continue their suffering. When he was captured by the Sentinels, he was in a state where he couldn’t walk but recovered from it. Same time period, he experienced fatigue with his sluggish movement in the arena. We have no definitive measures on his mortality after the divinity machine but we was knocked out by the hell priest’s trap and chose not to kill him. Most likely scenario is that he can’t clinically die but is can be disabled. Even in armor, he grunts when hit but doesn’t get incapacitated regardless of health so he feels pain albeit far less than most people do. It’s also worth noting that his tomb would’ve held him indefinitely if it wasn’t for Hayden’s intervention. They didn’t settle for putting him in far worse punishments such as the lake of fire because he could (theoretically) escape. He can be put in a special kind of stasis that can functionally hold him. In the case that he does somehow die, the only place he would logically end up is in the grasp of the dark lord (the demons would use another tomb if they couldn’t put him there immediately). The doom slayer can’t be at his strongest 24/7 since he always had to use berserk for instantly killing demons. The doom slayer on average, doesn’t have the strength to immediately break the marauder’s hold on his hand (if the same situation happened where the marauder wasn’t on his last legs, the marauder would probably throw his fist away from him). I highly doubt that the dark lord would give him weapons and that he would be somehow weaker than the marauders. Their strength would be so far apart that the slayer is effectively screwed. One last thing is that humans don’t necessarily have to go to Hell in doom’s universe. The khan makyr brings up that the blood ritual would spare the “believers” (probably those who believe in the religions that the Makyr started) and the deag say that the invasion is meant to punish the non-believers. The makyr’s also have technology far beyond from what we understand that it isn’t unreasonable to suggest that the ideal “place for holy people” heaven could be a simulation to put “believers” in when they die, something similar to a Jupiter brain making perfect copy of humans mixed with doom’s confirmation of a soul. Just a reminder that these are just a bunch of thoughts that were raised by this (pretty interesting) video.

As Serpahim gave power to Slayer using Maykr technology and most likely tinkered with Divinity Machine in the process, Slayer might be "virtually immortal outside of his domain". Question now remains - where is this domain, where Slayer can be killed? Unless Seraphim made it so, that there is no such domain and anywhere Slayer goes, he'll be virtually immortal. There's also this old theory, that Slayer's soul was "cursed" to be reborn in the past whenever he died. Respawning at last checkpoint made part of the lore ;)

Oh no, he definitely died in E1M8 I imagine the limited programming restricted them from making the slayers health reach 0 as that may have reset the level thinking you died. He was mortal in DOOM. Dying and going to hell would've made him immortal because now we know that his soul would keep going back to hell! He could be killed, but he cannot permanently die. I'd imagine that a few other humans with the same will as the slayer managed to make it out as well, but they didn't survive like the slayer did. It is cannon that the souls of the dead go to hell, and are tortured so their souls can be extracted and become hell energy. The empty vessels eventually become demons themselves. He would have escaped and then most likely passed out where we see him in E2M1. Imagine what kind of demon and how much energy the slayer would become if they manage to ever kill and then trap him to be tortured. After sun bathing in the divinity machine, I imagine that he cannot actually be killed now, thus making him truly immortal. But should he actually be killed he would just return to hell and continue where he left off.

The problem I have with the "Infinite power to those worthy of it" is that Samuel is talking about Argent energy and we still don't know what it was Samur gave to the Slayer. Keep in mind that Dr. Helena specifies that there is an UNKNOWN agent cursing through the Slayer's bloodstream and considering Argent is pretty much used for everything, they would have recognized Argent immediately.

I know this is asking a lot, but could you do a video about the Maykr hierarchy. There’s lots of info in-game and cut info in Emerson Tungs Doom Eternal concept art. Maykrs were gunna have deacons, priests, and devouts. They also created large cross-like structures that orbit Urdak- they were called Archangels and acted as a army to protect Maykrland. And the Maykrs were supposed to be completely synthetic- while the real Maykrs are in a Mummified state- there body’s scattered throughout Maykrland.

Well, I like to think that he did die at the end of Episode 1 in the Original DOOM, which may have been retconned in DOOM 2, but considering how in the flashback in DOOM Eternal, he talked like a madman saying something along the lines of, "Demons everywhere! Rip... And... TEAR!!!". I like to think that when he died in Episode 1, something caused his mind to have a blind hatred towards Hell, while having no other adverse side effects. His willpower made him immune to Hell's corruption, but dying still made him go slightly insane (And EXTREMELY angry). That's what I think, anyway.

Here's something to think about after one point in regards to this video I believe and this is what I've come to believe from playing doom eternal and doom 2016 which mainly built the lore for doom that what the hooded figure did with that maykr God machine made him unkillable by using the maykr power to basically create a argent energy field around his body protecting him he can be stopped like when he got trapped and put in a sleep state. But other than that he can't die from old age or illness the only way to stop him is with either some kind of hell runes and magic or a great amount of force building falling on him or maybe a couple of titan's to overwhelme him temporarily until your hell runes can work. But the point I wanted to make is maybe the reason he was always first to jump in and fight the demons why he always ended up near death of course before he was blessed by the maykrs is I believe doom guy wanted to die and the reason is because from that torn photo in the fortress of doom in his man cave of his family that he lost to the demon's I think he wanted to die to be with them again I mean think about it he knew that there was a hell so surely in his mind he would think there was a heaven so losing his family maybe he thought they were in heaven and the only way he could get there was to die it wasn't just to make sure that hell couldn't invade again at the end of doom 64 he knew at some point in hell if he stayed there he would at some point die at the hands of the demons and then he would get what he wanted to be with his family again his loved ones. Also I another thing is he spoke before he was blessed by the hooded maykr maybe again the reason he no longer speaks and has so much hate for the demon's is because no he knows that he can't be with his family again now because he can't die now thanks to the hooded figure and the maykrs power that flows through him making him the doomslayer its that which truly broke him not only did the demons take his loved ones everything from him now because of those demon's setting him on the path he took ending up with him being blessed by the maykrs he now has lost his only chance to be with them again his chance to die and all he has left is that anger and hate for those dark Lords that wronged him. So yeah was thinking about that while watching this and yeah putting it all together I believe that is why he doesn't speak why he was first to jump in to fight and why he chose to stay in hell. Unfortunately for him the doom guy is a full on bad arse and he was too good at killing demon's so as much as he wanted to die his hate for them made him kill them all just before they could finish him off and kill hence why he ended up at deaths door so many times. Great video man really love all things doom and I'm really looking forward to playing that dlc it's three days before my birthday that comes out so of course I know what I'm doing for my birthday lol thankfully my wife plays doom to so no worries about her as she will be playing next to me just on the ps4 rather than me on the pc lol.

I just really love doom lol I've been playing since the first one and even now I still play the originals but doom has always had a special place in my heart got me through some hard times I tell ya. But since doom 2016 & eternal when they really started building that doom universe I was in heaven literally lol. So if you don't mind me asking what do you think about it could that be why the doomslayer is the way he is I'm interested to find out why they removed that torn photo with one of the updates I think midnight even said in a older video could it have something to do the dlc? Geo G the game is dragged down by its story. While the story is amazingly written, it sacrifices that god of war gameplay we would expect for a more souls like experience that is catered towards your average gamer rather than GOW fans. If they wanted to make an action rpg that feels like dark souls they should’ve forced us to play on a hard skill because the combat is brainless, unlike past god of war games. There is no platforming. There isn’t even a jump button. There are only 2 weapons and both require zero skill to use. There are lots of filler things in the game like tacked on rpg mechanics and long stretches of doing nothing. This is no god of war game.

I think what you said is true. Him being half god could just be the abilities he’s able to do (wall climbing with fists, being able to land from a large fall without breaking something, double jumping etc) but yeah, if it’s not true, it should be cause that makes him more badass than he already is.

My opinion he just somehow got the power or ability to rejuvenate after killing a minion of hell. That’s how we survived hell for so long in the older games. He became super human and when the seraphim pumped full of Jesus juice he became something more.

If it’s true that every DOOM Eternal skin is a real slayer from a different dimension or universe, then look at the zombie slayer. As said on the Slayers Club long ago- even death can’t stop the Slayer So I guess he COULD SOMEHOW die, but it does not mean that he will stay dead or gone. Also as said in the video if he is killed he will just go back to hell so I guess there is no end for the slayer.

When he was the Doom guy he never die because he was to angry to die, His anger was such that he overcame every barrier and made him keep going despite all his injuries, But now he's not even human anymore, he was given divine powers and due to his nature those powers intensified his hatred even more, He is now some kind of god of torment, all the fear, pain and fury he ever felt is now fuel for an unstoppable killing machine that He generates panic and pain to the demons, with each fall he gets up stronger and more angry than before, that is the power that was granted to him and that is why he cannot die.
