I just picked one up. I love the bracelet and wouldn't change it - I think it adds to the funky 50s/70s retro mashup of the watch. That said, they definitely need to sell a version of this where there are normal lugs for those who want to change. I hate, hate, hate the crown. Holy hell. I've never dealt with one this much of a pain to set. This watch needs an auto winder, because it would be too annoying to set every time I wear it. Otherwise, I love it. Tip for those who want one: monitor Macy's, Nordstrom, and Zales online for sales. Once in a while one of them will include it in a 20-30% off sale. I caught mine on a Zales 20% off Valentine's day sale.

My father is a big fan of Mido timepieces. He also has the Commander. Another big plus was the bracelet, totally Pop's style. When I asked him about the small crown, he laughed and said that was my job. When I come for my weekly visit, he offers me a drink and is quick to ask if I can do this, that, or whatever to his watches. His collection is larger than mine so I usually have my work cut out for me)))) Anyway, Mido makes excellent quality watches and this one proves the test to time.

That’s a very iconic watch design. The gold tone model steals my heart. Such a classy watch! The fixed bracelet is a slight bummer but I’m willing to forgive that.

I have started to look at Mido. Rado is still one up there but Mido takes the cake for me. Too bad I buy inexpensive vintage and retro/kitschy watches. Nice review.

Great review. That watch is a huge (or tiny) no go for me. 8 1/4” wrists make watchES like that REALLY hard to wear for me. Beautiful watch, with I wasn’t such a Yeti!

Imho all the Commanders had integrated bracelets. But there's also the vintage Ocean Star Commander that has normal lugs with the same look. Also 37mm.

That's one modernization that should happen though... There's enough real estate on the back to simply have shrouded, 18mm (or 16mm) lugs. It'd be great for those looking to sport the watch on something other than the supplied bracelet.

Well, fixed milanaises or other bracelets were a huge trend once. Maybe it'll make a comeback? Milanaise bracelets were completely out of fashion not so long ago ;)

I love the look of sunken crowns however owning two vintage Eternas with them they are really awful to use in real life unless it’s your only watch and you wear it everyday so that the watch remains wound. If not one has to develop a serious callous on the side of your forefinger to get over the pain from trying to hand wind it. Keep this lovely look for a quartz version I think and put a normal crown on as I’m sure 95% of people who would buy this would have it as part of a collection. Other than that I love Mido, I have a vintage mode, from the early fifties with a lead gasket and cork seal on the crown stem to give excellent at the time water resistance. Highly underrated brand I feel.

They are really well made. I own a 1953 Multifort and it feels just like a Tudor of the period in terms of quality and finish, Beautiful watches with great movements and some really innovative qualities. Its a watch in my collection I could never let go of and feels special every time I put it on.

I may be the minority, but i like the integrated bracelet. The only drawback for me is the lack of sapphire which put me on the fence, but i found it for 25 percent off from kay jewellers. Is enroute.

A nice retro Mido. The lack of strap option is my main gripe. That would, unfortunately, keep me from getting one as I'm not a fan of Milanese mesh bracelet.. more correctly, I do not like wearing a Milanese mesh bracelet all the time.. it's usually a very spaced out casually worn strap option for myself. I don't mind a smaller case size of 37mm.. in fact, I've most recently made my 34mm Rolex 6426 my main daily wearer now that it's been recently serviced. I am even finding good times to sport my 33mm VC Patrimony to expand it's use beyond just a formal dress watch. And, I am pushing out my 40mm+ watches and "trying" to keep the watch collection below 40mm.. I would say 41mm could be acceptable and even 42mm, but I'm really trying to avoid those these days, actually. Anyways.. The dial gradation is lovely. I don't think you mentioned, and perhaps it's the distortion from the crystal, but is the dial actually domed or convex?

My range, in scale, is fairly diverse; but I prefer 40mm and under myself. Looking forward to preordering an Aquascaphe at it’s 39mm diameter. Wears so well. Anyways, in regards to the dial, that’s just a trick of the light. It’s flat but the crystal may make it appear slightly domed.

@@TakeTimewPatrickMarlett the Baltic Aquascaphe looks like another solid offering from the microbrand. They gave me a sneak peak on the wrist back at the w&w wind up in San Francisco at the beginning of summer and in glad its availability is just around the corner. As far as the recent trend of vintage dive style is concerned, especially with the triangle markers at 12, 3, 6 & 9, it may be one of the better offerings of this type of style. However, it looks Very similar to a Méraud Bonaire. For me, it is very reminiscent of certain old Tudor sub designs and that style always reminds me of something from vintage Zodiac. I would be preordained one, but I just received the NTH Nazario Sauro exclusive from WatchGauge. So far I'm impressed .. Just received yesterday :) I really like the design inspiration drawn from the Rolex Zerographe.. Which is a very cool story in itself for perhaps the rarest and significant obscure model from Rolex. NTH has a lot of nice things going on. I also particularly like the new Devilray.

Huh? Have you seen any model of Mido in real life and compared them with an actual £150 watch, like a Seiko 5? Finishing is night and day better in every conceivable way. It isn't even close. You'd need to step up to at least a Seiko Presage model (all of which are much more than £150) to be competitive in terms of finishing. Don't get me wrong, there's clearly a "Swiss tax" involved in buying, well, anything Swiss, but your statement is pretty inaccurate. Oh and the acrylic is there purposely for the vintage look, kind of like with an Omega Moonwatch. Most Mido models use sapphire.
