I got the Ocean star 600 in blue about a month ago. Was considering the new Longines GMT, but this watch checks all my boxes and for more than $1000 CDN less. If you are in the market for a diver that punches way way above its weight, get this watch.

That's a black beauty! Another great diving watch that around this range would be Certina DS Action Diver. Not Chronometer but i would say as good as this and possibly cheaper than this Mido Ocean Star. Another one would be Longines Hydroconquest. That one is chronometer and probably the same range price as this.
@LosNTime9 ай бұрын
Yes, those are great watches! There is a lot of overlap due to them being sibling brands under Swatch I've handled those two watches (Certina and Longines) and can tell you without hesitation that all three are great, but the Mido, at least in person, is superior (I find the Hydro Conquest to be the least impressive longline watch in person, but that's my opinion ) The lume, helium escape valve, lockable bezel, DLC coating, 600 meters of water resistance, and ratcheting clasp feel more elevated than the DS Action Diver and the Hydro Conquest; this feels more like Omega with a less fancy movement Also, in the gray market, the blue dial version can be had for $1200, which is a crazy value if you ask me I will be reviewing the titanium ocean star Chronograph soon, too, in about four weeks Stay tuned for that one, as that's another watch that's closer to an omega sea master for a fraction of the cost that no one pays attention to I like Mido over Longines as a hole because Longines is more like entry-level to omega But top-of-the-line Mido is way more interesting than entry-level lomgines and often is very close to Longine top-end offerings execution with small compromises (like no column wheel on the Barocheli moon phase Chrono) but also 1k less (check out that review I'm curious what you think if it) I will be handling more Certina watches in the future. Hopefully, I can do a showdown between DS AD and the OS line :) Certina has the smallest US presence of all the berry-level swatch brands Thank you so much for all the comments, these conversations are so much fun 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
@normajeann9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the explanation. Perfectly why i subscribed to your channel. you explained a lot about how good Mido is. Would not know much about the hydro conquest until you mentioned it! Certina is much more popular in Europe for sure. I wonder why both brands are under the radar in the US. maybe lack of marketing? Swatch has been focusing more about the collab with moon swatches and blancpain? who knows
@LosNTime9 ай бұрын
@@normajeann So, from meetings with the brand reps, I feel like the business is split by territories (at least at the entry-level). Certina is huge in Europe, as you mentioned, especially Russia. Mido is huge in Latin America and Asia. Hamilton is huge in the US, They all focus pretty heavily on their assigned territories until economic factors keep them from making their numbers In this cases, they will Juno into each other territories to try and make numbers I get the feeling that Longines and Omega are their mid-tear brands, with their middle to top products getting features and resources that are not offered to the entry-level brands and the super top-tier artisanal brands like Blancpain Glashütte and Breguet being there for the uber-wealthy that also wants romantically classical luxury watchmaking 😆 But overall, the brands do seem to work together to support their fans, dealer networks, and reputation across the world Starting this channel has helped me learn a lot about retail to be honest It's not my background, but I've found it very interesting Thanks for subbing. It is a privilege having you on board 🍺🍺🍺 Don't be a stranger. Subs like you help me think of ways to better my knowledge about both the hobby and business side of our addiction, lol Plus, you give me great ideas for future videos that are less review but more inside knowledge 👆🏼

I believe the opening above the helium escape valve is for rinse out the bezel with fresh water to keep the bezel mechanism free from salt water.
@LosNTime2 ай бұрын
Yeah! That would make sense I was also told that it was the sensor for the helium escape valve, but that doesn't seem right to me Either way, the bezel action is so unique it's easy to overlook the cutout, in my opinion Thanks for taking the time to comment 🍺🍔

Mido, Tissot, Certina and Hamilton are the "Fab Four" of Swatch group. It is healthy to say that all of them have in-house movements, some use silicium other use nivarox hair Springs which is state of the industry like Rolex or Omega. They are supebly finished and the precision is in the range of Omega Metas and Rolex. I have all these brands and are my favorites. Also are though as nails. Just put the name of Rolex/Omega aside and you will hardly find a difference in terms of quality, aesthetics and long tradition of great watch making.

Thank you for a very nice video. I'm really considering this as my next purchase. But I was left wondering: why is the minute hand off set, when the seconds hand is in zero position? For example at the video point 6:18 you can see that the seconds hand is at twelve o'clock, but the minute hand is somewhere between 14 and 15 minutes?
@LosNTime Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, great question! So, it all has to do with how you set your watch If you want perfect hand alignment, all you have to do is pull the crown when the second hand is at zero to effectively stop the second at the perfect moment if you set the minute hand perfectly centered to the minute mark and then press the crown down your hand will always line up perfectly However, if you set the time with the second-hand stopped at any other position, you will have an offset This can happen with all watches as you can set the minute and hour hands independently from the second hand :) So don't worry. It is not an issue with the watch; it is an issue with how I set the time 😬 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Does the bracelet use screws or push pins?
@LosNTime6 ай бұрын
Hey there! most swatch brands like Mido, Tissot, Hamilton, and Certina use split pins instead of screws in their bracelets. The use of screw pins is more common in higher-end swatch brands like Longines and Omega. Hope this info helps! 🤷🏻♂️

@LosNTime4 ай бұрын
That's what I heard about the clasp But I would not be surprised if the entire bracelet is pvd When you look at the bracelet reference number, you can see it's not unique to this watch Which is why I think it's not DLC like the case It is a universal bracelet that's been part of their catalog for some time I was disappointed to learn that the case might be the only metal elemt finish with DLC coating :(

I really dont like how the logo Mido reflects light unevenly making it impossible to read correctly the logo. Also i find the bracelet too polished. If they could do a sandblasted version but been a swiss brand there is no chance of that.

If you want a bracelet with less polish, Hamilton and Certina might be the way to go And it's all under the Swatch brand, so that quality will be on par across the board Thanks for your comment 🍔🍺

Stop calling ordinary things insane.
@LosNTime8 ай бұрын
Lol but ordinary is subjective 😆
@Gunsncarsnstuff8 ай бұрын
@@LosNTime Indeed, but watch parts cannot, by definition, be insane. Anyone can call something that they like “insane”, but when they do, they express no actual useable information to the listener. Alternatively, I would love to hear you, someone much more experienced with watches, more insightfully convey to me why a particular feature is extraordinary. In the first minute you call the watch, the watches feature set, the bezel and the finish “insane”. Why not use that same moment to tell us that the watch is unique in finish, the bezel has a proprietary locking system, the feature to cost ratio is highly favorable and the overall value is worth looking at when compared to other watches in the category. We could use that info to determine if we will watch the rest of the video. Thanks for the reply Carlos.

@@Gunsncarsnstuff I get that the word “insane” has an ableist conutation. I can work on removing problematic language from my videos, even if I don't move away from using hyperbolic language to pack all the required information into the video’s intro. It can be challenging to keep my personality out of the videos, as I am not a robot and have strong emotions about these watches; with that said, I do hope that you had the chance to watch the whole video and eventually got the information you required out of it Thanks for the feedback and for watching my videos 🍺
@Gunsncarsnstuff8 ай бұрын
@@LosNTime I was in no way suggesting that your language was "problematic". The idea that you might hurt an actually insane persons feelings by referring to a watch as insane is ridiculous. I was only suggesting that if you use language to describe something, allow that language to convey your actual thoughts. Be hyperbolic if you like, but allow that hyperbole to convey your emotion in a way that the viewer can take something away. I imagine that you don’t find this watch to be so, over the top good, that the only words you can find to describe it is “insane”. I did enjoy tour video and I am now going to search the rest of your videos for GMTs as that is what I am in the market for right now.
