"This isn't a service that really exists." And guys, I don't think it should be. No one should do this type of cleaning unless they choose it or love it. Get mental health help and try to reach out for support so that your home doesn't reach this point. What Mack and other channels do is triage care for people and homes that desperately need it. The best time to get help is Now! Reaching out to Mack is lovely but try to reach out to people and resources within your local community 💜

not everybody has the resources to get mental health help... sometimes these situations are also due to a physical disability and they dont have friends or family to help and dont have the money to hire cleaners. not to mention the shame that holds a lot of these people back from asking for help, then they may feel hopeless and adapt to it until theyre forced out of it or can find help like this. if only mental health help was more accessible v.v
@peppermintea420
@peppermintea420 Ай бұрын
@@RueKitty I completely agree that it's not always accessible to get help and that's often tragic. My reminder would be that the systems we have are mostly broken, so looking outside of that for help is Ok, it just doesn't always occur to us initially. Talking to neighbors or doing something nice for a person in the local community could set you on a path to recovery. These are acts that purposely fight the isolation that depression and burn out can impose. Avoiding the worst outcomes of mental unhealth is definitely a community care effort.
@RueKitty
@RueKitty Ай бұрын
@@peppermintea420 yeah in a perfect world that would be great.. but sadly a lot of times people are looked down at for asking for help and local communities just wont care or be able to provide enough. and many people work too much, have social anxiety, physical restrictions, or lack resources like being able to drive, money, etc. and it being the digital age, making friends and connections is harder than ever. also public spaces are decreasing. the general mental health is getting worse so i think these kinds of messes and hoarding issues will only increase... its quite sad :c not sure theres much we can do about it but services like these can be life savers, its great seeing people want to help others
@peppermintea420
@peppermintea420 Ай бұрын
@@RueKitty you are correct that social issues play a huge role. That's why I think it's the responsibility of all community members to address these kinds of things. I have the same kinds of struggles so I know how important community involvement is, although it can be difficult to access. We have to fight for that access and we should.

“I demand the same kind of empathy that we show the people we help.” Yes and amen, we love healthy boundaries ❤️ It’s easy to be hard on ourselves, and “helpful” comments from others can really make it harder to get out of a hole. Those people are buttheads. And as an aside, I really like seeing you take care of projects and cleaning in your own house; It’s one thing to help others, but to be able to take care of your own self too takes another kind of strength.

I just enjoy hanging out with Mack. Doesn't matter what house, what yard, what anything he is doing, I always learn something from him and always amazed at how good he is at what he does. It just makes me sad when he shares that he's suffering with those things he personally struggles with and I always wish there was something I could do for him or something I could do to make the struggle go away. Mack is an amazing man. His autism is an actual super power for him and that he has chosen to use that super power to help others is an inspiration for all of us. He always inspires me to be better, to get up and do something, no matter how small. I do feel somehow a better person for having watched Mack for a long time now. ❤

I grew up in a hoarder house, and I want you to know that these videos have been incredibly therapeutic for me. Watching you tackle these difficult homes with empathy and kindness cuts through decades of shame I was carrying. Watching the process step by step makes something that was completely overwhelming and unfixable for me as a kid seem like something that CAN be tackled, and seeing the end result is just so satisfying, even if the home is seriously damaged. You’re doing great work,and I appreciate you. ❤

SAME here! Yes Decades of shame and embarrassment! I wasn't allowed to have friends over, even into my adult life, after I moved out. Hoarding is a serious mental illness, and now I get made fun of for cleaning like I am OCD!. But I tell myself, hey, I would rather be ultra clean than a hoarder. Also, I absolutely LOVE your boundary setting! I too get asked all of the time, if I can clean someones house "like that". I admit, I was suckered into several major projects, where I left feeling used and manipulated. I like how you clarify that you only clean for people who need it, and cant do for themselves, on your terms, and also in your area. Thats perfect! Lastly, to your wife, may she have an easy painless brain surgery... And may your pets continue to live on as painlessly as possible. Congratulations to your son and his first child! And to you and your wife becoming grandparents:) Please take care of yourselves always.

Remember that the way your house looks is not a reflection of your value or worth! You're inherently worthy whether your house is sparkly clean or a complete mess. My husband passed away in August of 22. We had been separated for 3 years and have a son together. He wouldn’t ever let me go into his home after I left him. It wasn’t until he passed that I saw it. It was just like this. The only exception was that he had giant vodka bottles instead of beer boxes. He owned the mobile home but rented his lot. For the sake of the lot owners I tried so hard to clean it but there was no electricity and it was so bad. It was spilling over with roaches but it wasn’t until day 3 that I realized that it was full of black widow spiders and their egg sacks. That was where I drew the line. My husbands therapist (a clinical psychologist) diagnosed him as having schizophrenia (other things played into it) but he went in, came out and said “o there’s no question”. He was sick and I didn’t know. He drank and starved himself to death

I cannot fathom the smell that must’ve been in that house and what spurred that thought was the crap in the kitchen and all those years old, mostly empty, beer cans! Beer cans (especially open and old) have a putrid smell and I can’t even imagine going near that bathroom! That you can’t even show the toilet tells us it was beyond 99.9 percent of the average person’s senses that’s why I would pass on seeing or going near it! I also enjoy everything you have to say regarding autism as my son is now 42 and has got that diagnosis. Trying to get him a job he can keep has been a nightmare for him and people DO NOT understand how autism affects a persons ability or disability. It’s been so hard for him. I wish I had sued the A-hole that delivered him but that’s another problem. I’m sorry your wife is sick and needs surgery! I cleaned out 3 homes in 4 years. One was a hoarders. No one wanted the 45 rpm records. I cad a collection of 1930s shellac 78 rpm original jazz. No one wanted them, even on eBay. Now I have boxes and boxes of old docs I’m scanning so I can toss the originals. I just can’t keep them unless they’re really old (pre 1970 photos). The emotional hit as each thing is discarded is painful, but it has to be done. Taking a picture of it helps. Once it’s gone and the tears stop, it’s not missed. It was important to people no longer here. I can’t run a museum. It took 4 days to clean up out the hoarder’s home. I’m now trying to get tepid of things I haven’t touched in 5 years. Clothes not worn in 2 years. I don’t miss them once they’re gone.

I’ll add on to Susan’s comment of decluttering!! Start going through everything. And I mean everything you don’t use or absolutely love looking at sentimentally right now and ask the important people in your life if they want any thing or if they are okay if you see or donate things. And start selling/ donating it now so they don’t have too!! ❤❤❤. Trust me. This A) helps you keep it tidy as wayyy less to clean and organize now. And B) when you do (a loooooonggg time from now) pass, it’s not a nightmare of a job for your loved ones ontop of having the emotional turmoil of dealing with your loss ❤❤❤❤. If that makes sense??? That’s literally the best advice I can give. I’m doing this right now, myself. It’s awful. 😂😂😂. Not going to sugar coat it. I’m a year and half in. And it’s horrid. We had a massive house full of kids and stuff. Andddd I likely have another 2 years of this. But I can see a light at the end of the tunnel!! And I know when I’m down to bare basics how LIGHT I will feel!! And I just CANT WAIT for that day!! And I do little sections at a time and take breaks and so on and so forth!! Good luck!! My house was actually a lot like this, I wasn't a hoarder, I just couldn't motivate myself to take rubbish out and let it pile up, then I got depressed and developed a problem with alcohol and it got worse and worse. It was hard, but I stopped drinking and deep cleaned the house myself and I've now redecorated most of it, my ex partner was getting worse than I with her drinking and was using cocaine, and our son couldn't continue to live there, that is what motivated me in the end, he is now 5 and lives with me full time and while it isn't obsessively clean and tidy, there is no longer came and take out containers piled up, the walls and ceilings have been washed and had several coats of paint, bedrooms have been recaptured, got laminate or down in the hallway, upstairs landing and living room, organized the cupboards, put up curtains, blinds, shelving, decorations, kitchen and bathroom are sorted, I surprised myself, has taken the best part of a year and theirs still some flooring needs replaced, it's just the money to do it, was £900 to get the laminate done, and I'd put that off because of all the furniture that had to be moved, including a large fishtank, but it's done, just need a new carpet for my son's room, painting the trim orange to go with his blue walls because he lives Blippi, going to tile the bathroom and kitchen, replacing everything is soothing, my mental health has improved with the change and I want everything that reminds me of where I was at gone, clean and new. I've surprised myself with what I can do by myself, never thought the place could look so good!

For sure. Nobody consciously chooses their final legacy to be a squalid house filled with boxes of cheap beer and animal 💩. But mental illness is cruel like that. I hope the owner can finally find the healing and peace he needs to rewrite the final chapter of his life (I'm assuming the owner of the home is an elder. It would be especially tragic if he wasn't)

It isn't laziness, as you explain, but a void in the mental mapping of a "normal" person. We can't just smile or throw our beer cans in the trash. We just can't. Not on our own. I was diagnosed with adhd at 43. I read all these checklists and just didn't think I had it enough for a diagnosis. KZbin, podcasts etc, that's where you have the time to listen to various voices and go "that bit is me, that bit's not me" . And some concepts, you need to need to hear ten different people explain it and it clicks, and you understand the point that the previous nine people were making 😂 I am so grateful for the privilege we have in being neurodivergent in this decade. Although a few stimulants and therapy 20 years ago might have made a few things easier!

My wife did this exact thing when she discovered her grandpa and his pets living in a mess very similar to this. Eventually, her grandpa passed away from the alcoholism shortly after leaving the nursing home. The pets all had to be surrendered. She would come home every day for a summer and tell me about all the stuff she found - poop couch, pee bottles, dead animals. Her grandmother, mother, and herself cleaned everything and managed to sell the house. Seeing this video really puts what they went through into perspective. Thanks for everything you do. ❤

8:22 This was a shot to the heart, right here. I had never heard either of these words in conjunction with one another, but the moment you said it... I realized it might apply to me. You started listing symptoms, and I started getting worried about how accurate it was. And then I did a little research... man. I just graduated from law school. I'm only 23 years old, I went through college exceptionally fast, faster than it takes some people to get through it the first time, and I live alone. I have for years. Trying to get employed as an autistic adult whose primary struggles are with sensory issues and communication, put me behind the 8-ball compared to every single one of my peers, who had something lined up for when they graduated. And for the past two months, I've been spinning my wheels in the mud. I've barely left my apartment, I've become exceptionally depressed and anxious compared to my usual, I find it hard to do anything that usually gives me joy (cooking most of all, I picked it up as a hobby during high school and it was the most natural stress reliever for me but now I basically have to order food or else I'll starve), and it feels like nobody has "understood" how I've felt. Well, now I have a name to what it is I feel and can start trying to fix it. You may have genuinely just saved my life, be it my career, my mental health, or my relationship with my mother, who to this point has felt hopeless trying to help me over the phone from two states away while also trying to help me find a way to support myself financially. I'll edit this at some point in the future if my situation changes in any meaningful way, but for now... Thank you so much.

Yay! I'm here to see I'm so excited for a new video! WhoopWhoop! EDIT: halfway through the video wanted to tell yall that for 40+ years I kept my birth certificate and few other things in ziplock bag in the door of my freezer so in case of fire, I could grab and go. In the event I wasn't home and that happened, it would be semi protected inside the freezer. I live around the corner from a fire station so, hopefully it would be ok. Turns out LOtS of people do the same thing, important papers in the freezer-so if you dare...that birth certificate could be in that man's freezer. Thanks to you and your son for doing this. Is it just me because I'm wondering why so much concern for birth certificates when you can get a new one or certified copy of one from the county clerk. I'm from a different country and had to get mine by mail. In any case, good idea to put it in the freezer 😊
@katrubie3
@katrubie3 Ай бұрын
@@jillianbowen7265 I hope to answer this question for you... In most cases, it is far easier to find one that you already have than to try to track down where to get a new one. At least at one time, different places across different states were the repositories for such documents, and the county clerk's office may not have been where to find a replacement document. I do not know if that has been changed now. And these days, and in some areas, the cost has become ridiculous. When I had to write away for my birth certificate in the early 1980s it only cost me $3, when a frind of mind had to write away for hers about 7 years ago, it cost $25. And now I hear it is even higher. For some people, the place in which those records are kept may even be out of country, or were in a place that was destroyed from natural disaster or fire... For example, even though my son is an American citizen, having been born to two American citizens, he happened to be born overseas in a German hospital, while my husband and I were in the service. His birth certificate, was therefore issued by the German government - and this was when the Berlin wall still divided the country. I would not even have a clue as to where to begin trying to find a replacement for his birth certificate if his was ever lost. I am sure there are other scenarios, but as you can see, it is not always easy or cost effective to get a replacement. I hope this answers your question.🙂

That is a fantastic idea/suggestion! The freezer, being insulated and cold does seem to be a great option for those of use who cannot afford a fireproof box! I hope they do find his birth certificate in the freezer! What a joy that would be!

Getting all the trash out was impressive, but what impressed me the most was cleaning any bathroom, what less this one, without running water! This one took raw courage!

😢 No more shirtless flexes! There is a Moose somewhere crying himself softly to sleep. A+ on clear boundaries. I'm glad you're taking care of your health!

I can’t understand the folks who feel it’s appropriate to tell someone to create a specific type of content when the creator has *not* asked for that kind of input. I’m just here to watch and listen. Your openness, kindness and understanding makes me feel seen and I guess more comfortable. This clean up, along with all your other ones, got me kind of emotional in a good way. Thank you for the upload ❤

As a fellow Autistic, I can appreciate your message telling those people who don’t want to watch you clean your own house (due to the autistic burnout) to move along. Also, of course you should listen to whatever music floats your boat! Forget the haters. You do you, and thank you for all that you do. Continue fighting the good fight for cleanliness!

Hope I’m not over sharing. You mentioned “that crunching feeling under your shoes”. First hoarder place I ever helped clean had dog feces on all the carpet. That place really horrified me. My parents bought it “as is”, but I could never imagine someone moving away and leaving so much of their belongings behind. Little did I know that 30 years my mom would die and leave me 5 hoarded houses!

You are awesome. I love what you do. I love your humor. I love that you’re helping other understand autism. I used to teach Special Needs and to see you be such a productive person, warms my heart. I love that you bring to light the mental illnesses that are out there and your analogy of how to understand them was an eye opener for me. THANK YOU.🙏……. And God Bless!!

One of my favorite things in these vids is hearing the background behind the people who own the houses and connecting their history to how the mess built up. Like how this house is so different from hoarded houses. I love seeing little peaks into their interests and personality, despite how chaotic and troubled everything got for them Recently did a huge deep clean of my place, and it was fun to break down the psychology of my own messes lol

As someone who’s grandfather is struggling badly with depression and has been for years this is great of you guys to do this. Feels like I do this yearly at his house and nice to know others experience this from time to time.
