SH1 is still my absolutely favourite Silent Hill game. It's such a crime that sooo many people skip it and go straight to #2. They do not know what they're missing! The game absolutely scared the 11yo me shitless twenty years ago. Which was funny, since I was already a RE-fan, and the preview shots on magazines made SH seem like a yet another, extra fugly clone of RE (there was a ton of those around back then). Then I tried the playable demo on one of those demo discs... it was a chopped down version of this school segment. Pure nightmare fuel! I hope you keep at it, and don't leave the game after a single playthrough. There's sooo much replay value. Also, it would help the game's visuals a lot if you lower the in-Game brightness setting (go to options -> brightness) to instructed levels, and re-enable the dithering effect from emulator settings.

I think a lot of people skip it because it's hard to find today and a little confusing to install to pc if you don't understand much from these things. I was about to skip it too then a video tutorial saved me lol. Great game so far.

Tips: R1+L1 can quick turn. You can walk while aiming. You can change blood color in options. Harry is not military trained, so he can't shoot straight. He runs out of breath and stumbles off stairs, making him more real and vulnerable.

I've always liked how, even with firearms, a hit isn't guaranteed, so it rewards pacing your shots, keeping the guns from being OP if someone just unloads on enemies. Risk/reward game design even with ranged weapons.

Normal roof drains lead to the ground below or an underground storm drain pipe, not bathrooms, but that's an unusual drain and trough, and of course this is an unusual circumstance; the water valve is also unusual; goodness knows where that pipe leads.

I actually grew up a big fan of the Silent Hill franchise. I didn't start getting into games till about the PS2 era and the first survival horror game I ever finished was Silent Hill 2 and I absolutely loved it. Still probably my favorite horror game of all time.

i played this game when i was 12 years old in 2000 i think. my dad though not a gamer himself would often point this game out for me at the rental store because his coworker would always talk about it. he was saying how based on what his coworker said that it was an intense weird ass game. it blew my mind as the only thing that ever came close to the feeling of this game at the time were the david lynch movies id see my dad watching. specifically Lost Highway which gave me some horrible sleepless nights. the whole game just felt like a bad dream that kept going.

Besides the SH2 remake, they should re-release the first two games on other systems, even remaster them. Man this takes me back to 1999, home from college and staying up until 4am playing this with no lights on. Remember the TV ad for this? "You may never leave your room...again."

1:17:22 I don't know if you ralized that the game breaks the map for that bit. When you enter one of the bathrooms, you get teleported to the other floor, when you get out. That's why in a moment you were trapped in the hallway, and in the other there was a door (and the hallway was clear). You were on different floors each time you got out of the bathroom. When i played this for the first time, and i realized it, it just made me feel an unexpected and unreal horror. And i'm sure it helped you to feel more lost hahaha.

You should absolutely go play the original SH trilogy yourself, ASAP! Same with the classic RE trilogy too, which started it all. "Watching" is never the same as "playing" them; the mood skyrockets tenfolds when you are behind the wheel. If you have any sort of PC made in the past 20 years, you can easily emulate the PS1 titles, where as SH2-4 got old PC ports that run on literal potatoes at this point. Slap the Enhanced Edition -mod on top of 2, and it's good to go! No need for any of the texture replacements and all that. Look up the "SH PC Guide" Pastebin, and the PC Gaming Wiki articles on each of the games for more info. Play them all in the release order!

Silent Hill games actually explain A LOT, if you dare to stop and examine, read, and think about stuff. SH1 is also such an open-ended game, designed with multiple playthroughs in mind, that you WILL miss a lot of details and alternative scenes if you play it only once, blind.

On her 13 birthday I gifted my little sister a psp with this game loaded on it. His very first videogame EVER was this master piece. She didn't sleep much for a couple of weeks 😂 but now 2 years later she has already completed all of the silent hill games. Proud of the little one 😌

Silent hill also has a hidden options menu where you can even change the game to first person and other nice things: "Open up the Options menu and press L1, L2, R1, or R2 to open an extra menu. The player can change the blood color, set a bullet multiplier (bullet adjust), and more. Weapon Control Blood Color View Control Retreat Turn Walk/Run Control Auto Aiming View Mode"

@@kanukki84 sure thing, yes me too, i used to slaughter this game back in the day on my PS1 when it was new, 20+ years ago but as years went by since then i did revisited it quite a bit, for example i finished it again last year and this year as well bcs i still have my old PS2 and PS3 around and they work perfectly fine still. But i play it on my PS3 rather bcs it’s easier more convenient and looks nicer regards to picture clarity obviously because of PS3’s HDMI output so… im preserving my physical copy of the game 😅

I had found what I was looking for, a box with my old Playstation games in it! The fog cleared and the skinless little people ran away. As I told you that I haven't played this game in over 20 years, I still have notes between the manual that I made about the game and the clues with red sticky notes back then. Like what key you need to press on the piano, etc

hej. My facecam size hasn't changed at all. The live chat is only there because the game has a resolution of 4:3 instead of the modern 16:9 - so there is a big, empty space. I cut away the black bars, because I think they're ugly. So neither the chat, nor my face, are covering the game play. Both of them are in an area of the screen that would just be black otherwise. So in fact, in previous videos of modern games in 16:9 my face was actually covering the gameplay :)
