@@ChavezDIY my chain seems stuck ie doesn't have any spring back.. do U think doing these steps would help? or do i need a buy new switchy thing (the wheel, spring case etc) ? Im asking because accessing my ceiling fan is not an easy thing and i wanna be prepared, lol. And advice appreciated. :)

@@neli.a You can try it out to see if it works. If you want to be best prepared, buy a replacement switch and just replace it. Then you can try to repair the bad switch in your free time. If you are able to repair the switch then you'll have a spare switch for the future.

You saved me a trip to the hardware store! I knew there had to be a way to just replace the chain and not buy a new part. The switch doesn't click and hold onto place until you install it. I thought I did it wrong until I rewatched the video in slow motion. Thank you!

My daughter & I are the fix-it girls in her & her husband’s house! Her husband wasn’t taught nor brought up with someone to teach him unfortunately. My dad taught me & my kids to be self sufficient, how to use tools & do it yourself if possible. We’ve fixed ceiling fans, electrical outlets, indoor & outdoor plumbing, doors, I will rewire a lamp before buying a new one (unless I want a new one!), not afraid to use electric tools & have built many items. It’s so satisfying when you can fix your own!

THANK YOU so much! I watched videos to replace the switches, bought some, but was too aggressive and popped the cover off! I tried multiple times to put it back on with spring, no luck. Was about to buy another switch but thankfully found your video!! Of course bc the wheel wasn’t catching the flap like you said it needed to! I just fixed it thanks to you! Other videos just said put the wheel back and snap the cover…then you came in with the SIGHT! 😂 yes! Same happened to me with the chain getting stuck. I followed other videos too and it wasn't helpful. Took me half an hour to figure it out and then I figured I'll make my own video, haha. Cheers!

Excellent video. With older electrical contacts, you want to use a contact cleaner and not a lubricant. I suggest Deoxit d5 spray contact cleaner. A little more expensive, but worth it. You want to remove the oxidation from the copper / metal contacts.

I would just buy a whole new switch. I have some links in the video description to some switches on amazon for the 3 speed type of switch. Even if you tried to fix that center piece with super glue, its tedious and there's no guarantee how long it will last and you'll have to do it all over again if it breaks again.
