Step 4: Start your car to drive to the hospital but you remember you took your steering wheel off. Step 5: Take out your phone to call 911 but realise it got destroyed by the airbag. Step 6: Accidentally press the accelarator pedal and smash into the front of your house Step 7: You brace for the airbag to save your life, but then you remember it already was deployed. Step 8: Repeat step 4 and 5 until you realise it's useless.

Ok so what if it is a steering wheel with media controls on it and controls for the computer ? I have a VW Golf V and I have been looking at some flat bottom steering wheels that are from the GTI but is it as simple as taking it out and plugging in some wires or do I need to make some changes ?

for the people talking about the air bag: people that do this mod for the right reason (Drifting for a better lock on the wheels or racing in circuits) always have racing harness, so the air bag is useless since you are always stuck and the seat belt has no travel, so you are always in one position. dont do this just for style, its stupid.

I have a 90s Celica (no airbag) and had problems for ages getting the horn to work turns out it just needed to be grounded Used a speaker wire which just connects to the other plug on the horn and grabs inside the boss kit Hope this helps some newbies out there like myself. This video inspired me to give it another go before going to a shop, glad I did!

You'll want to wait the pre-specified time for the SRS module to turn off. Most systems have an auxiliary power supply so you still have to wait even if you disconnect the battery. Otherwise you run the risk of hurting yourself pretty badly if it explodes.

MCM should do an episode on how to freshen up your old steering wheel. For people who want an airbagged wheel but cant afford the OEM uppgraded wheels like MOMO STI wheels. Ive seen kits that have new wheel grip material that you sew on to the wheel. And also paint or wrap the non grip surfaces so it looks mad. :)

When The Junctions Wide Let The Rear End Slide , standard seatbelt meant to slow you down before you hit an airbag. So with no airbag you’ll most likely break your nose and/or lose few teeth...if you’re lucky of course ;-)

I learned about the fuse on civics shared between the horn and brake lights the hard way. After installing a new horn it blew the fuse, no tail lights, (being an automatic) it won't come out of park without brake lights on :)

Yes it's legal in the USA. And remove the battery at least half an hour before working on it it should disable the airbag and as they said don't forget to remove the fuse for the horn hope it helps

when u are doing this on a car that has air bags be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable, find the air bag connector witch is usually yellow an disconnect that, so u don't have the air bag blow up in your face, most GMs have like a quick disconnect setup up with holes on the side of the steering wheel use a coat hanger or metal rod to stick in the hole, there is a clock spring behind the steering wheel be sure not turn the steering wheel at all then follow the steps of mighty car mods:)

Unlike what hero has said(probably because he doesn't know what he's talking about) but you can indeed do this with an airbag. Just disconnect the battery terminal and wait 15 mins before you start. Then you just disconnect the airbag. And for your specific car i dunno you'll have to check on nrg's websight for their list. But i have a miata with a nrg and GR

Hello MCM! I changed the wheel on my skyline once. I simply replaced the stock one with another one which was in a better condition. What should have been very straight forward went wrong as the turn signal no longer worked. It switched on but not automaticaly off when taking turns. After driving it more than a year pushing the lever back manually it just started working again one day ? 2 questions: What did i do wrong firstly? and why did it start working again at random? love the show ! grtz

Usually lighter, yes. They're also smaller most of the time, so it may suit other people's driving styles a bit better. Also, deep dish steering wheels are generally a little bit safer as the middle of the wheel is further inwards than the rest. But other than that, it's more for show.

I have an oddball car that I want to replace the steering wheel to. Its a 2002 hyundai xg350. Im looking at a universal boss QR kit 6 bolt and a 345mm 6 bolt steering wheel. Am I missing anything? or is there anything I should check or that I need to know before I do this. Its difficult to find anything aftermarket for this car. Im assuming that I would just bolt on the boss kit like in this video then bolt on the steering wheel but I cant find that anyone has done it with this specific vehicle.
