This is amazing. I still have my grandmother's gemini from 1979. Its been in our family my whole life. When she passed away and i got my licence it was my first car. Spent alot of money doing it up. Unfortunately i got the wrong body place to fix her, instead of cutting out the rust spots they bogged it and the rust came back even worse. She is in a sad state now and not been touched for about 7yrs. This is my inspiration to fix her back up.

*This is awesome guys! I really didn't know that this car was so popular in Australia.* Here in the Netherlands and other countries in western Europe it's called the Opel Kadett, this is a generation C. My dad had loads of Kadett's, sedans, coupes, stations. They are indeed collector items right now, over here nice coupes go for €5K until €15k. Even Scotty Kilmer first car was a Buick Opel (American Gemini/kadett). A great engine swap would be a C20XE or C20LET GM/Opel engine. These are also called red tops and well-known for good performance and good gas mileage. They fit good in the engine bay of a Kadett C/Gemini and it's done before. So enough aftermarket stuff for it.

Being from the US these guys have introduced me to many cars that we "in the states'" have little or no knowledge of. I like their modus operandi of not being an endless pocket high-brow restoration mindset. I like their crazy ideas as cars, no matter how much potential and respect many place on them, get the "mad" treatment of sometimes absurd mods. Though I'm not a fan of 90's electronic music I am a big music fan and love these guys connection to the music used in their shows (& Moog's oft worn Metallica shirt)! In my opinion they began with a modest hobby and turned it into a world-wide internet juggernaut of an idea. Bravo Moog & Marty!

A perfect conversion thas has been done in the Netherlands quite a bit is the combination with the engine of an Opel Astra F GSi with the C20XE engine and F20 gearbox. Stock these are a 2 litre, 16valve, 150hp, 196 Nm. The stock engine is perfect in the slightly newer and heavier Astra GSi (but was front wheel driven), and has the option to add a Turbo as well (stock with turbo would be called a C20LET, often found in Opel Calibra's). My own engine (C20XE) had 350.000+ km on it, and still runs like a sewing machine. Edit: If and when the above is the way to go for you guys, I'd like to share a little tip: Preferably get a C20XE with a Coscast head, developed by Cosworth in earlier XE engines. Stock they might carry a little more bhp, but most importantly they have fixed as issues with oilline cracks in the heads. These are identified by a lack of core plug style casting on either end of the head, plus they have an oval-shaped Coscast logo embossed onto the front (look from below). If it says "Ecotek" that doesn't matter, just look for the L style plug cover to make sure it's the C20XE underneath (if it's a straight bar it's an 1800 or lower). Since you are changing the C20XE engine from (originally intended) front-drive to the Kadett's rear-drive you would need some work to the oil, and it is preferred to put in a Manta oil Sump. Some nice information about tunability is found here as well: www.sbdev.co.uk/History_files/History_BudgetHorsepower.htm Ha. Sorry for so much text, I got exited thinking of my old Astra F GSi with C20XE engine in it. I would love for you guys to experience the same joy. - end of edit - Whatever engine you guys decide on, for the build itself it shouldn't matter, just make sure you enjoy it!

In the UK they were Chevette also, but most people called them a shove-it. Stick a 2.3 HSE engine in it like the rally spec ones had. Bit old school, however.

Toyota 4age would, in my opinion, be the perfect engine for this! However, a more modern engine that might be cool would be Honda's f20c.

I had one of these and I'm so gutted I sold it!! The Isuzu/Holden version in the "postie" spec. They were used as rural post cars in NZ so it was a 2-door short wheelbase station wagon. A 2-seater. So much fun to drive. Tiny engine but would drift and slide like a beast with slicks on the rear wheels! I hope to find it and buy it again one day :)

@@abhimaanmayadam5713 no clue, i read it spins in the opposite direction so it needs a transmission that does the same. With a quick search, I found a fourm that says GF-5R would work. This is all hypothetical and will require alot of work even with toyota engine and transmission and nothing like pressing X in NFS to engine swap. The 2zz needs a cutom bell bouse and that's costly too, but i saw some one do it with bmw e46 transmission. Any of those engine would be a blast in this car.
